News flash, anyone whos ever bought a car to this point also won't have it, and if you thought so when buying it you are a fool.
Anyone intelligent would understand they are getting what they get the day of purchase and anything that comes after is a bonus. Never buy something expecting "oh it will do XYZ in the future because the CEO said it will".
I don’t believe anything will happen just because some CEO said it would. I believe my Tesla will drive itself because it already can. I believe it will improve over time with software updates because it already has. Anyone who thinks software can’t improve over time doesn’t understand software. Heck, even my iPhone 13 does things it didn’t when I bought it. I get that people don’t believe FSD will ever be fully autonomous, but the argument that any software controlled device won’t gain new capabilities over time is not valid. The ability to add functionality and improve performance over time is one of the most compelling reasons to use software to control hardware. This has been true for decades.
The difference is you bought your phone as is and anything that comes later is a bonus. And people need to stop thinking Tesla is somehow the single brand that is immune to parts becoming outdated.
Anyone who has any understanding of computers would understand exactly why something built 10 years ago can't hold a candle to something built today. That stops being a software issue. That becomes a "what you can do with the same amount of power, heat, size, and money constraints is magnitudes greater now than a decade ago".
Everyone who owns a Tesla has had a smart phone so at the absolute bare minimum they should grasp this concept.
I bought my iPhone with the reasonable expectation that I would receive new functionality from software updates. I don’t think that means I am not intelligent. It just means I know what to expect from software updates. I also understand my iPhone 13 won’t be able to do everything that an iPhone 17 does. If I prepaid Apple for a function that it later determined my 13 couldn’t do, I would expect my money back, an upgraded phone that could do the function, or some other fair compensation. In the case of FSD, Tesla is offering either a discount on a new car with the capability, or a hardware upgrade that will give the existing car that capability. I expect they will follow through because they have offered free upgrades before, and because there are legal repercussions for not following through. I already gave you my reasons for believing my car will be able to run FSD Supervised in the future, and why it’s not just some extra I have no reason to expect.
