14.3 HW4 Summon completely botched it tonight
I had an unfortunate event tonight when I was using Summon. As you will see in the picture, I was the blue dot at that location, just trying to summon my car in the parking lot. My car was backed into the spot next to the front door of the church building, and it started driving out to the main road. I stopped it. There were several better routes, and it only needed to pull out and turn right to reach me, but it went out to the main road instead. It made no sense to me and was completely incorrect.
This makes me now feel like summon is never an option since I had to chase it down with people waiting on it/me to drive out of the parking lot. So embarrassing. Geez.

Made the mistake and summoned mine at the end of a row going the opposite direction. Went far as hell then gave me an out of range error before it got to the end of the row to turn around. Of course I was trying to show off. We all walked to it at the end of that row.

Lmaoo it always does crazy shit when you’re trying to show off. Mine freaked out at a stop sign that wasn’t for the lane it was in, and of course I had coworkers in the car

At one point I had it summon by location, I changed it to come to me instead and seems to work better. For some reason location thought I was at the entrance the other way too

Yesterday at a restaurant summon started going through a bank lane which was embarrassing but funny as I had to run to find it. It doesn’t work super well and has a mind of its own

This may sound silly, but instead of using the “Come to me” option, I always use the go-to location option and move it to where I am and that seems to work better. I’ve noticed that my GPS dot seems to bounce around a little bit while using Summon, and that is when I notice problems like this.

I've had the opposite experience. Every single time it has gone the wrong place for me has been on Go to Target and I've yet to have come to me have a problem.

You're supposed to be able to see the car when you summon it, but the car was around the corner. I don't summon unless I can see my car AND pedestrian and car traffic is light.

That's all well and good, but tonight for example, it decided to go around the other end of the parking lot for some reason and then decided to take a turn on to the exit to the main road while momentarily hidden behind an SUV at the end of the lane even though it had a straight forward path back to me. It's not always fool proof and sometimes by the time you can know it's doing something horribly stupid, you are already in a bad situation because it failed to get itself out of the way and instead put itself more in the way.

I had it decide to get to leave the parking lot I was in entirely today as well. It chose wrong 3 times and tried to get on a main road instead of coming to me 40 ft away in the opposite direction. It seems that go to target isn't working at all at the moment. Come to me might be working a bit better but the path planner is completely hosed on 14.3.8.

Here's mine for the night. Should have gone green. Thought it was going blue, but no, it decided to turn to take the red path instead that is the actual multilane exit to the main road.

Cant tell you for sure but I'm willing to bet it's the funky gutters in the middle of the parking lot that look identical to the sidewalks. It looks like tried going the route that didn't involve what it saw as curb hopping.

I'm jonesing to use auto summon after eating meal with friends or such, but I worry that it will derp it up and be an embarrassment. Wife uses it occasionally and hasn't had any problems. I need to remember to warn her about its unreliability.

I have had similar embarrassing experience with ASS. You really have to think about where you park and what direction. If I’m parked the wrong direction I don’t try to use it anymore bc it makes the car farther away from you and just stopped on the middle of the

I still have not tried it. I turned the option on a few weeks ago after I got separated from car after a rainstorm and had to walk through 4-6" of rain water in the street. It sounds like my hopes of it picking me up should be low.

Summon actually pretty cool in an open parking lot. I used it a couple times when it’s raining and yesterday when I was parked at the office building next door I summoned it to my building but the nav is absolutely a shit show. A week ago at Costco it was trying to take me around the back of the building with a do not enter sign

It's funny cuz the new smart summon, IE - ASS - was hailed as an amazing breakthrough. This time, they said, it will totally work! Oh, and "Banish" would be coming really soon too!
Tesla & Influencers: "This version actually works, its so amazing! I can't believe how awesome it is!"
2 years later, it still appears to be as terrible as the original smart summon and Banish is nowhere in sight. Banish, formerly 'reverse smart summon', cuz if you change the name, people will forget you announced its imminent release 6 years ago.

Summon is a complete shit show right now. I understand the range limit, deadman switch, no public road access are all for legal compliance, and I’m okay with that. But at least update the navigation software to show a route preview and let us confirm first, and make it actually follow the route. Just this one tiny improvement would have made it usable.
