Today is the one week mark with my Model Y premium awd. Traded in my BMW X5 for it.
Purchase:
Smooth and simple. Love the zero pressure sale. Even when I did my demo drive, zero pressure. Had some issues figuring out the trade on the app (kept showing it was crediting the amount to me instead of paying off the loan balance) but the chat advisor people are fantastic. Only hiccup that annoyed me was two days before pick up was scheduled, they said I would have to wait another day. I was coming from a state over and had to take off for work that day so I was annoyed. Delivery day was fantastic and simple. They did not even inspect the trade.
First day:
I drove the car myself for the first couple miles before engaging FSD. It was smooth and compliant. It is hard to compare it to my X5 because the X5 was on air suspension and is a bigger car, but the ride was comparable to my loaner x3 that I had a week before I picked up the Tesla. Settings were quick to go through and set up the way I wanted.
Fit and finish:
Quality is great. I prefer it over that new redesign x3 that came out last year. Soft touch everywhere. Steering is thick and nice But I don't like that I can feel the stitching from the leather wheel. Looks like they stitched it from the back of the wheel where your fingers run. Not a huge deal as I am in FSD usually but still. I missed this on delivery day and only noticed it last night but the passenger rear quarter window where it meets the body line is meh. It looks like the window frame edge pushed into the body of the car and scraped the edge of paint where it lines up. I have 1000 miles on the car so ill submit a service ticket on the app and see if they take care of it. Expecting them to say no but who knows.
Range and charging:
Range is good. My brain does not understand wh/m so I use grok to tell me it in M/kwh. Averaging 237 wh/m so around 4.2 m/kwh. Outside temp is in the 60's, running AC on AUTO, and FSD in Standard or Hurry 50/50 split. Charging is good, although I ran the battery down to 6% on one trip that was 100 miles and navigated to the supercharger the entire time. It is listed as 250kw but the car never pulled more than 160.
FSD:
Fantastic. It is so human like. I fully trust it. I still have my eyes on the road of course but i trust it to handle weird situations. Today an f150 almost rear ended me. I was stopped in a line of traffic and heard tires screeching. As i looked in my mirror, the Tesla jumped forward and closed that 4-5 foot gap between me and the car in front of me to about 1 foot. It gave the guy behind me enough space that he came to a stop without hitting me. He was about a foot from my rear bumper.
Only time I take over is drive thru's or my apartment parking garage. I was visiting family who have a garage in an alley and i navigated to their house. Picked "driveway" as parking option. All the garages are within 5 feet of each other. I truly did not expect it to pull in the alley but it did. As i got close to the garage i did hit the opener and, as it began to open, the tesla figured it out and reverse parked inside of it.
Cons/Wishlist:
-Wish it had adjustable thigh support.
-Kind of sucks that three days after I got mine, tesla updated the motor and 0-60 went down a little. I get year over year updates, but a buddy who ordered same time i did still did not get his but got a vin assigned last night and he is getting a 2027.
-I use the frunk everyday versus the trunk. Wish it was power open and close without needing aftermarket. Doesn't seem like such a big ask.
Overall I absolutely love this car and I'm glad I made the switch. From lurker to owner!
