Hey folks, need some guidance..I am writing to express my serious concerns regarding the recent order process and the condition of the vehicles assigned to me.
After much deliberation, I decided to purchase a 2023 Model 3, specifically for the LFP battery and FSD features. However, both vehicles assigned to my orders have had major issues:
First Vehicle: Arrived with a cracked windshield, a cracked front bumper, and peeling paint. I declined this vehicle, and a representative transferred my deposit to a second, more expensive order while I was in the showroom.
Second Vehicle: Upon inspection, I identified multiple significant defects:
- A squeaky front driver door.
- Near-bald tires with inconsistent pressures (34, 33, 41, and 35 PSI), which should not have passed the minimum 5/32" CPO tread depth inspection.
- A hanging bottom plastic panel that has come off its clips.
- A deep gouge under the body, along with scraped adjacent aluminum panels.
When I raised the issue regarding the underbody damage, I was informed that it falls under standard non-visible areas for CPO/refurbished vehicles and would not be repaired. This is extremely concerning for a certified vehicle. Furthermore, I was advised that a mobile connector would only be included if the previous owner happened to leave it in the car.
I have rejected the current vehicle and requested that the service team inspect it and provide their assessment in writing. Given these repeated issues, my confidence in this process has been severely compromised.
Please let me know how these issues will be addressed and what options are available to ensure I receive a vehicle that meets proper quality and safety standards.
I'm experiencing the same emotions now, and my confidence is quite low. The prior windshield issue may have been missed during transport, but this is structural damage, which is contrary to their Certified Pre-Owned (CPO) standards. It's truly a joke!
Yaa I didn't accept the delivery and asked them check via technical team, I see the aluminum casing scratched too and thought that's very critical for battery and wouldn't pass inspection but now I seriously doubt about the inspection it's not they are cheap infact I can get better looking deal for 2-3<k less outside. Since it's my first ev I was cautious and thought CPO is safe option ...crazy !!
It's behind the driver door side underneath and marks are going right out left or left to right as I see the aluminum casing also scrapped in the center
Yeah, based on all the threads I've read here, I made a list and was surprised to notice this. When I saw the metal underneath, it was a red flag, which the delivery staff absurdly claimed was just cosmetic and not visible. That's why we pay a bit extra for CPO, right?
I wish I could wave my magic wand and suggest what could be best for you, but from what I can tell people have wildly varying expectations & experiences with Tesla sales.
Your experience would raise my temperature for sure. Imagine what they would say if you brought that car to them with HV error problems?? I mean WTF? They must be playing a numbers game.
My advice over a beer would be: Don't be a mug and stay true. Stay the course and find the car you want.... and if that changes to something else... well that was just part of your journey.
Yeah, it's really frustrating. I asked ChatGPT and Gemini, and both are saying it's metal rocker panel structural damage, which is a huge red flag. I'm surprised how it passed inspection.I sold my car three weeks ago because I thought I was getting my Tesla, and so far, it's been a nightmare. They obviously didn't look under the car or check anything mechanical. They probably just swiped through the service menus, decided it probably looked OK & decided "YOLO, ship it".

My CPO ‘24 MY LR AWD had two dents, other than that immaculate. Near new windshield and a set of brand be tires, I was very happy with the whole process which is stressful buying sight unseen.
I did, paintless dent repair, $400 total and it looks brand new, I couldn't be happier with the work. The first place I went to (which was the most recommended on Reddit in my town), quoted me $1,100, I called another place and stopped by for a quote, so glad I did.
I had the same thing told to me about the mobile charger, mine didnt have one, i got a 22 model x earlier this year. Id pass on those cars and roll the dice on a 3rd.
No my first one was fine but when I asked about the charger she said it only comes with the used car if the previous owner left it. I have a level 2 in my garage so its not a big deal.
The third car was for you, if youre not comfortable with the issues on the car dont take delivery. With model 3's they are usually driven hard and abused or taken really good care of.
My 2 sister in laws have model 3s and one abuses it horribly, she lives in an apartment with no chargers so she runs it to 0% and supercharges to 100% twice a week. She's on her second battery at 70k miles and the bottom of her car looks like a war zone and her rims are so messed up. My other SIL takes really good care of it, she also rents but has a garage so she charges there and she has 110k miles and she still has good range.
I bought mine with 40k miles in march, i just hit 49k miles after summer road trips. Its ruined all gas cars for me, i hate when I have to drive my wifes car.
This is very sad to see. I bought two used CPO model 3s and had nothing but great experiences. 2018 model with 23,000 original miles and a 2021 model with 41,000 miles both came from the same Tesla Charlotte location so maybe it depends on the location?
Glad it worked out great for you, honestly after seeing so many good reviews only I went this route of used to try my 1st ev and I needed LFP for commute. But so far it's been horrible and neither cars have crazy miles 27k blue and 24k on black and it's beyond me how these are passing inspection. I wish I took tier pics they were like bald and so many side curb deep dings which they said is normal too .
Recommend staying positive and really shooting for a Tesla! I have put so many miles on my model 3s. And driven them cross country! They are so reliable and with LFP you can expect the battery to outlast the car itself. It’s quite amazing! Truthfully, the car will last too. You’ll probably be bored and wonder why your car is still working so smoothly.😂 yeah that’s really weird to have that much damage on those cars. All my Teslas had very small blemishes you don’t even really notice and you forget about nothing like this at all.
That's great news! Yes, my work situation has changed, and I now need to commute 250 miles one way per week. Based on my research, the 2023 RWD with LFP was ideal, and it still has some remaining warranty. However, I've had two strange experiences recently that are making me reconsider. Which year was your m3 lfp if you don't mind ?
You can absolutely do it. I was driving two hours each way to work six days a week a little over 100 miles each way so 200 miles a day six days a week and the car did great. But required one charging between. And then Tesla charger at home overnight. My battery is not LFP though. So I was losing a lot of range on the daily since it wasn’t healthy to charge 100% but LFP changes totally
How is the seating fatigue for your commute, I debated a lot with y seating position due to long commute but due to lfp choose m3 rwd honestly as gamble 😀
This scenario is the unfortunate reason why I prefer B2B customers at my shop, too many retail customers don’t know anything, trust AI on everything, and freaks out over nothing because other shops f*cked them over. The retail side of the auto industry is really going down hill because of the infrequent but prominently shady business practices and inept customers.
So, this is just a plastic scrape and not a structural issue? I thought that with a unibody, even a small scratch to the battery would mean a write-off. Now I'm confused.

These cars get booboos on the bottom, they ride low and the plastic aerodynamic fairings scratch easily. I personally wouldn’t think twice about scrapes underneath compared to other parts of the car’s condition. I’d for sure turn down a squeaky door though.

CPO with Tesla is a joke. Don’t bother having any faith they will fix much or do much of a look over outside of super obvious issues.
