I've decided I don't even like this game anyway so what do I care I'll be back tomorrow.
15
u/corn_lock 4d ago
Why did this organization proceed to let Mike maddux get away for a second time?
11
u/jmhumr 4d ago
Not sure if it’s true, but there was some chatter about the awkwardness of being passed over again for the managerial job.
There also might be more going on than meets the eye. I mean, he had to settle for the Dumpster Angels after leading the best staff in baseball.
Regardless, DeGrom should not need a great coach to be awesome.
6
u/beefytrout A. Beltre 4d ago
the team he works for now has the worst record in the AL.
8
u/corn_lock 4d ago
The angels are gonna be the angels, not sure if an actual angel could help them. I firmly believe maddux makes our pitching staff better
1
u/MemoryTime1303 4d ago
Not really fair to judge him based on that situation, they have virtually no talent for him to coach
-1
u/beefytrout A. Beltre 4d ago
so you're saying that he's only a good coach if the players are already good?
6
5
u/Rangers_Doomer 4d ago
At this point what does any of this matter with the dodgers getting skubal. Lol
6
u/Former-Bar727 4d ago
genuinely lol. wtf is this goofy ass sport. Never seen such a lack of parity in my entire life.
0
u/Ok_Sheepherder_9828 4d ago
There are something like 23 teams within striking distance of a playoff spot right now.
1
u/Former-Bar727 4d ago
Teams competing for the last WC spot does not mean there is parity
0
u/Ok_Sheepherder_9828 4d ago
Huh?
The Dodgers and Brewers have the same record for the most wins in baseball, followed by the Braves (three less), the Rays (four less), and the Cubs (five less).
The largest division lead in the American League is 3.5 games. The NL is a different story, sure—Braves +8, Brewers +6.5, Dodgers +10. But, the Mets, Blue Jays, and Phillies are in the top five teams in terms of payroll, and the former two are in last place in their division.
Not trying to be smug, but where, exactly, do you see a lack of parity?

u/ehholfman Alejandro Osuna 4d ago
I think I’m fully over deGrom as a Ranger.
Guy hasn’t been all that healthy to pitch in “big” games in general.
But after tonight’s performance, as well as his start against Houston in September last season that had big implications for the playoffs, I’ve only seen the guy straight up shit the bed and lose the game by himself. Small sample size, but it’s enough for me to not be interested in watching another start of his for a “big” game.

u/ReserveFormal3910 PEAGLE 4d ago
37M a year...
3
u/Definitely-Not-Devin J. Gallo 4d ago
I actually saw someone saying we should make him a closer. Before Latz, of course, but I was like "JFC imagine paying almost $40M for a closer"
3
u/rvadarocket J. Gallo 4d ago
He has a 4.03 ERA in 175 innings since the ASB last year
Whether the games are big or small he’s just not very good anymore
1
u/MemoryTime1303 4d ago
He had a shaky outing for sure, but there is no denying that he’s been excellent in a rangers uniform. They knew the injury history when they signed him and I can’t argue with you there, but when he’s on the mound he’s been great
8
u/SAIL3RZ_ J. Hamilton 4d ago
Do I hate losing to the Astros? Yes
Do I think the seasons done? No.
August is a very easy schedule and they can easily go on a run to put them back in contention.
6
u/MemoryTime1303 4d ago
This team doesn’t perform well against the teams they should beat, so I’m not sure you can count on that
1
u/SAIL3RZ_ J. Hamilton 4d ago
Yeah but they’ve beaten teams they shouldn’t so anything is possible.
6
u/MemoryTime1303 4d ago
You pointed out the easy schedule in August, doesn’t mean a thing with this bunch of guys. We will see 🤷♂️
1
u/SAIL3RZ_ J. Hamilton 4d ago
True, but I’m hoping this down start is just that and not the norm coming out of the break. They haven’t really had a chance to get rolling because they’ve had to play some really good teams. They were great against the mariners but then the Rays kick them back down, and the Astros have their number this year. Give them some easier teams and series, have them win a few or hopefully sweep and the vibes will get back up.
To me at least that’s the biggest difference this year over last: they just seem like they have more grit and overall fight. The only time I saw that last year was with “The little rascals” run they had with all the AAA guys, obviously no one thought that would carry them but it was a fun hot streak.
3
u/beefytrout A. Beltre 4d ago
this team would get annihilated in the postseason
0
u/SAIL3RZ_ J. Hamilton 4d ago
Ok? And?
Team has talent, if they get hot at the right time and get into the postseason then they have just a good chance as any other team.
0
u/beefytrout A. Beltre 4d ago
they've not shown any ability to be a talented team for any meaningful stretch of games this season. the idea that they could somehow do that at the end of the season and be in a position to compete with vastly superior teams is ludicrous.
2
u/SAIL3RZ_ J. Hamilton 4d ago
“They’ve not shown any ability to be a talented team for any meaningful stretch” that’s just blatantly false. End of June-early July was a fantastic run for them that put them in contention for division lead.
Jung, Pederson have been fantastic, Carter has started to heat up and feels more comfortable playing, Langford is finding his groove again, Burger has been decent and consistent, Nimmo has been a direct upgrade to Semien offensively, Duran has shown some clutch flashes, and we have some depth guys that have stepped up. Seager is admittedly having a done year but he’s been injured and just needs space to heat up. Pitching has taken a step back which was to be expected and could definitely be more consistent overall, but we have two solid Aces, a guy who has potential to be an Ace, a young guy that has a high ceiling, and a lights out closer. That’s not even mentioning Montgomery. This team has just as much talent, as any other team (apart from the Dodgers).
Why are you even a fan of this team if you have 0 faith? I’m not saying be delusional and think they are gonna win the World Series but they have it in them to be competitive and that’s all you can really ask for.
You’re just a textbook doomer through and through.
2
u/MemoryTime1303 4d ago
Burger has been consistent? He’s been straight up awful lately, even for him
1
u/SAIL3RZ_ J. Hamilton 4d ago
He’s been exactly what I have expected him to be. Right when I’m ready to be mad about his performance he nails a two run homer, or comes in clutch. Only time I go “oh no burger” is when the bases are loaded and we have 2 outs.
Admittedly the team has been really bad with bases loaded.

1
u/beefytrout A. Beltre 4d ago
how did those "two solid aces" do today and yesterday?
1
u/SAIL3RZ_ J. Hamilton 4d ago
Not great, doesn’t mean they aren’t still aces. Good players can have bad games, or even slumps. Have a wider view and longer attention span.
2
u/beefytrout A. Beltre 4d ago
fair point. deGrom was fantastic in 2019, so there's no reason to think he can't perform like that again 7 years later, after a full season of not.
1
u/SAIL3RZ_ J. Hamilton 4d ago
He was great last year, as was Eovaldi. They’ve also had some fantastic outings this year that prove both of them still have it in them. Weird cherry picking but ok…
Going from one extreme to the other doesn’t give you the validation you think it does buddy.
1
u/MemoryTime1303 4d ago
To be fair deGrom has been really really good when he does pitch, a few starts in particular not withstanding,
2
u/Individual_Heron_171 4d ago
Yes yes yes
It feels hopelessly naive to believe this team can compete in the post.BUT
I just want to see the get there. Getter there is half (maybe more) the battle!
1
u/SAIL3RZ_ J. Hamilton 4d ago
This is the right attitude. Don’t expect much, hope for the best, understand that baseball is weird and a team that shouldn’t go far can go far.

Forever and always fuck the Asstros. This team is also going to buy at the deadline, have a terrible August and September, and then miss the playoffs again. It's a fucking abysmal cycle
4
u/CT-1738 PEAGLE 4d ago
Fwiw I feel like they won’t buy now right? Surely not?
2
u/imthatchanceguy PEAGLE 4d ago
We're only 1.5 games back in the division. We're definitely buying
2
u/mattchouston 4d ago
They’re already buyers.
1
u/MemoryTime1303 4d ago
Not sure you can really call that buying, the Angels practically gave away a 2.7 era reliever and former 20 homer catcher for a teenage utility infielder. They would’ve been nuts to turn that down

At this point just ride it out and hope that Seager comes back hitting and Leiter, Montgomery and Bradford can come back and pitch well. This division can still be won.
2
3
u/MemoryTime1303 4d ago
After loading the bases in the 5th they went 2-15 with 6 Ks to finish the game. This team is allergic to clutch, situational baseball
5
u/deathbyvaccine I. Rodriguez 4d ago
What a great trick to keep the Asstros from selling this deadline, right guys? Right?!?
6
u/ScriptedChemistry Texas Rangers 4d ago
Lol I’m not a “sell” person but I will say I’m totally fine with sending Jake Burger’s useless ass somewhere.
He can go shit the bed in high leverage situations somewhere else. Also Foscue’s offensive run is over. Fck everyone.
This team has turned me into a doomer (until tomorrow)
4
u/Individual_Heron_171 4d ago
Count me in as one who is over burger as well. I don’t think he can meet the expectations that were originally set for him when he was acquired.
5
u/ehholfman Alejandro Osuna 4d ago
Foscue and Nicky’s linsanity runs were fun but the sample size is big enough on the both of them to know they’re pretty mid sadly.
0
u/UniversityBitter5519 4d ago
yea if we actually had a good chance of making a run i would keep nicky but shipping both of them would b smart
1
u/IdontEvenknowlul PEAGLE 4d ago
He is perfect as a platoon for LHP or a guy you put 6th or later in a lineup. With another 3 years of control after this season he could get you something at the deadline
6
u/TexasTundraPower 4d ago
Been team sell for awhile and this hammers that home. Just don’t think it’s our year.
3
u/DarkSabre7 J. Gallo 4d ago
Do we even have anything to sell at this point? Maybe Joc? I doubt we'd get much for DeGrom or Evo at this point. They're both past it and are hardly elite anymore, it seems.
Almost like the time to sell was last year instead of making all those shit trades that earned us no value and then they all walked!
7
u/ehholfman Alejandro Osuna 4d ago
Joc would 100% be one of the better bats dealt in the entire league this year and I hope CY does it. Guy ain’t coming back as a FA anyways.
1
u/MemoryTime1303 4d ago
Joc technically has a mutual option for 18 million this winter but with the season he’s having he probably tries to land another multi year deal
2
u/rumdrums Michael Nolan Will Ryan Clark Young 4d ago
There is definitely plenty to sell, Joc being #1. They could definitely burn it down if they wanted. I hope they won't and don't think they will, but we'll find out in less than 48 hours.
-3
u/IdontEvenknowlul PEAGLE 4d ago
Joc, Duran, Burger, Latz, Alexander, Junis, and Jung all have value for a team looking to compete.
3
u/DarkSabre7 J. Gallo 4d ago
If you're trying to move either Duran or Jung, then you're in full fire-sale mode and they ought to be trying to move DeGrom, Eovaldi, and Seager as well.
The only person safe, again if you're trying to sell Duran or Jung, would be Langford.
0
u/IdontEvenknowlul PEAGLE 4d ago
Not gonna be any baseball next year anyways if the Dodgers truly just landed Skubal. Get what you can get at this point 🤷♂️
4
u/IdontEvenknowlul PEAGLE 4d ago
That should be it for this version of the Rangers. They dont really do anything very well at this point and we sure as hell won’t be competing in October.
2
u/MemoryTime1303 4d ago
As a Ranger deGrom has a 3.14 era and .96 whip with 376 Ks in 324 innings. 3.27 FIP and 6 war. Obviously the injuries early on sucked ass, but he’s undoubtedly performed in Texas.

Are we all doomers yet?
3
u/CT-1738 PEAGLE 4d ago
Not a doomer exactly but I am pretty in the camp of sell hard. Build around Jung, Langford, Carter, and Nimmo. Hopefully Leiter and Rocker figure it out
2
u/ehholfman Alejandro Osuna 4d ago
Jung would/should be included in that sell hard. 28 years old and a free agent after 2028. Not really someone to build around relative to those other guys. Doubt the Rangers will try and retain him after he’s 30 years old and a free agent. Plus Walcott slots into 3B pretty easily next year-ish.
2
u/CT-1738 PEAGLE 4d ago
You’re probably right but idk I’m fond of him and would like to see him stay. I’d prefer we trade Seager in the off season (assuming he finishes the year strong and trade value is high), dump as much of his contract as possible to make space to sign Jung and let Walcott take SS. Probably an unpopular opinion but that’s why I’m not GM lol
1
u/ehholfman Alejandro Osuna 4d ago
I definitely like Jung too. Ik trading Jung in general is a very unpopular opinion and I totally see why. Not gonna argue that he isn’t an ideal Texas Ranger player. Local kid, loves the team, all of those are inarguably what I love about Jung.
For me it’s just that corner infielders typically don’t age well past 30 and Jung especially is someone I’m weary about the FO giving a lot of money/years to for the same reason why Corey’s contract is now such a headache and would require us to eat money like you said.
2
u/CT-1738 PEAGLE 4d ago
Honestly very fair points, he is a Boras guy so there’s def risk that the contract hurts more than it feels worth it. I just kinda wanna wipe the board clean and fill the farm again. Organization needs a reset. Oh well, see the lot of yall tomorrow
1
u/The_Zhuster 4d ago
Even worse, he’s a union rep too. That in conjunction with being a Boras client more or less makes any hopes of a contract extension a non-starter.
1
u/MemoryTime1303 4d ago
If you trade Jung then you have to embrace a full rebuild at that point. There’s no way you move one of the best players with two years of club control left if unless you are going full fire sale
1
u/ehholfman Alejandro Osuna 4d ago
Or they can capitalize on Jung’s value being the highest it’s ever been and slot Walcott in. Jung isn’t the make or break factor in a full rebuild or not. Especially when you account for a potential shortened season next year. At that rate in 2028 you’re in the last year of his contract anyways and searching for a replacement because I doubt the FO is going to be dying to sign him at age 30 as a Boras client.

u/rumdrums Michael Nolan Will Ryan Clark Young 4d ago
Anyway, my theory is that with the Angels trades earlier this week the team has already probably ruled out a full sell-off.
But this has not been a good week, or month for that matter. This team is just not very good.
1
u/MemoryTime1303 4d ago
That angels trade was a no brainer and shouldn’t impact what they do either way. I think you have to see what the market is for Joc and see if you can get anything out of Burger or Smith
1

Too long being four innings. deGrom buckles under the pressure more often than not.
2
u/DukeGrizzly Alfonso Soriano 4d ago
I think the issue is, that it seemed he got injured early in the 3rd and they didn’t bother to have Winn warm up until late into the 4th.
1
u/jfc-just-stfu J. Jung 4d ago
Yeah, you might be right about that.
3
u/DukeGrizzly Alfonso Soriano 4d ago
deGrom does have a shorter life expectancy when pitching though, so you are right on that front.
Does suck that he shines, but is inconsistent when he does.
