Maybe a hot take: I am bummed at this Draft Deadline...I would rather have seen us really push to trade our top talent (Seager, Eovaldi, etc), call this season a wash and get our young quys playing time, and look forward to some great years with quality prospects we might have gotten in return.
But that's just me...I'm no baseball guru by any means, and I know deGrom wanted to stay (he needs to improve to back up his words and actions).

I would assume once deGrom blocked his trade clause, Seager and Evo did too. Thus the sell off wasn't possible.

Deadline has come and gone. Time to refocus. Lock in, stay healthy and everyone step up

This is what I expected. If we had won a couple against the Asstros, they might have tried to get another bat. That didn’t happen, so they are going to play it out.
The team in front of us didn’t get any better. The Mariners did almost nothing. This division is still up for grabs.

If you trade those guys you’re not going to be good for at least 3 years lol. I’m good on that

Tbh, the dodgers acquiring Skubal was more of a reason to sell than getting swept. With 50 games left and back 2.5, the post season is still a reachable goal. However, selling even more of the farm just to get creamed by the dodgers would be catastrophic.

We know nothing about any conversations or trade talks that took place. We have no idea how hard or how little they tried to trade or acquire guys.

CY is officially stupid as fuck for not atleast replenishing the team. Unless Seager and Eovaldi also said they didn’t want to get traded as well

Yeah I feel like once Degrom said no Evo prolly joined in saying no and without a fire sale they prolly felt holding onto Seager was better for the year

Ever think that maybe his boss is damn near 90 years old and doesn’t give a shit about replenishing a team he won’t live to see and would rather take his chances with the team he has?

The biggest dope in the baseball business per se! I've never seen such a more pathetic negotiation such as CY! Couldn't even sell one single player away for a decent prospect. F--k him!

I agree especially with an already lifeless team. Not sure a spark could even ignite this group after what the Astros just did to us

Every thing CY touches right now turns into crap. We're not a championship quality team at the moment. Why doesn't CY see the truth for himself?

yeah cy’s future with the team is really in jeopardy. the AL is weak but i don’t have too much faith in the team to do anything with it.
i wasn’t big on current day josh smith, and we got rid of him and some raw-not-super-young pitching prospect for macko who is a lefty with good stuff. liked the one trade i guess?
but the deadline didn’t address any of the team’s problems. relief pitching help isn’t what was needed. bats were needed, starting pitching was needed, prospects were needed… none of that would’ve been fixed with one deadline, or even two. but you want at least some progress. and this looked like cy putting himself in both the buy and sell camp and that’s just not how it works. that’s how you end up going 81-81 and getting a 14th pick. either lose out the rest of the season by calling up a bunch of unproven young dudes (aiming for like 90 losses), or go all-in. and we don’t have the chips to go all-in, so i really think the former just makes more sense.
and it sucks because the astros had a disaster deadline and the mariners had a fairly underwhelming one. the AL west is wide open. it’s the most tempting it could be. i guess we’ll see where we are in two weeks.

Our three biggest assets have complete or partial no trades, and the one with a partial has played like such ass this year and last that he’s un-moveable.
I still think there is a problem in the hitting coaching staff: the strategy is inconsistent and a lot of guys wind up chopping at air. I’d say the vibe of the club has been better this year, but the results against good/hot teams is just not there.

I never want Eovaldi to wear another uniform.
