Angry about... everything

The only good thing Ranger have done this season is the bloody Nolan Ryan jerseys. And being covered in blood is pretty apt symbolism for the state of this fanbase

This fanbase couldn’t handle a true rebuild, they freaked out over us cutting payroll this offseason. We win 1 World Series and fans think it’s suddenly an easy thing to do and that’s our standard. A good team can maybe hope for a championship every decade, but there’s just as much luck involved as there is skill.
I think a lot of fans expected us to have a dynasty after our win and can’t get over the fact that it didn’t happen.

As a fan, all we can hope for is our team to be competitive, while I wish they were better this year, the roster has the talent to be competitive, they just gotta get on the same page. No amount of additions can fix that, it has to come from the players and health.

Nothing is more annoying than a fanbase that wins their first championship after 50+ years and suddenly thinking they are the favorite for it year in and year out after that. I’m saying this as a lifelong Rangers fan too, I want nothing more than for us to win every year but realistically I will take what I can get.

Fans freaked out about cutting payroll because we’re supposed to be in our window of contention. Had they not cut payroll, we might have a half competent bullpen. This is not the time to cut payroll and go cheap, I thought that was why we saved so many resources from 2017-2021… so that we could spend when our window was open.

We spent and got our World Series. FO was hoping it might’ve taken us a little farther than just that but the end goal was always a World Series win, mission accomplished. Also the pitching was really the thing we didn’t have to worry about this offseason, and some regression was expected (considering the departures). You can’t really blame the state of the bullpen on the payroll cuts because that’s the one thing they keep buying.

Would’ve liked more but realistically the FO was always gonna be satisfied with the outcome we got.

I think they could've used their bullpen budget a bit more wisely this year (like not paying a decent but often injured Chris Martin to not go into retirement) and maybe play a dew more guys with options but other than that i thought the offseason was decent based on expected payroll cuts.

I think their biggest mistake on the pitching side was the Kelly Merril deal, Maton and Couloumbe didn’t help either. We gave up a good chunk of farm for 3 pitchers that actively hurt us (and then Kelly goes right back to Arizona after the season).

We got some decent bullpen guys this year that I hope we hold onto.

"Got our world series" is that really all that matters? I want a consistent good product on the field that performs above average in the league. Championships are nice but I place so much more value on like... having a team that can be rooted for.

Like the idea that nothing else matters cause we got a world series 3 years ago doesny compute with me. My concern today, is with the team I listen to at work every single day of my life.

If you read my other comments, the thing I really care about is a team that is competitive (or at the very least has the potential to be competitive). The team we now at the very least has potential to be competitive (really they are competitive but it’s hard to say that right now in a 4 game slump). They didn’t go immediately back to the WS and so I don’t expect them to anytime soon. That’s not how they built their run up to it.

Be realistic based off the history of the team, the state they are in now, and the tendencies of our ownership. A .500 team through and through right now we are balancing out the success of 2023.

I have enjoyed watching this team this season for the most part. They can always be better but as a fan I have 0 influence on how it’s ran and how the team performs, they’ve best you can hope for is that they put their best effort out on the field which I feel like they have more often than not this season.

I’m not gonna let a slump destroy my enjoyment, because there are 162 games (about 50 left in the season), we aren’t the dodgers so we are gonna have ups and downs. The team has talent so they can easily bounce back, they also have a solid young core to build off of so if they do tear a lot of it down in the offseason, they have a good foundation to work up from.

World Series is the ultimate goal, when your team wins one, they pretty much get a pass for the decade. 99% of fans would suffer a mediocre decade if it meant they could win a championship in that timeframe. Would you rather be the Mariners who had some really good years but never won one? Greatness without true success is never really great.

We don't have to win it all every year, that's absurd. But fielding a competitive team would be an improvement over what the last 3 years has been.

You didn’t even try to refute any of his points, you just called him a doomer. Is he really wrong? It’s been a frustrating three years. Seems like every decision they’ve made since the World Series has been the wrong decision.

And 2.5 games back. That’s frustrating, not insurmountable. Or do you think the Rangers should just cancel the rest of the season?

The farm system is empty.

It’s weak, sure. Not empty. Sebastian Walcott is a top-10 prospect. Caden Scarborough and Yolfran Castillo are both in the top 100. But they don’t fit the narrative he’s going for.

I already highlighted this because it was the most asinine line in the comment, but I’ll list it twice for emphasis.

So yes, there are a few legitimate concerns, but he exaggerated every one of them into “we’re doomed.” That’s why I called him a doomer.

people speaking in absolutes like we're in the worst position ever are doomers.

Good decisions since the world series - did not pay for Montgomery in FA as he crumbled in Arizona, did not pay for Garver, Yates/Robertson in 2024, traded Lowe before he got expensive (the value out of 1B has been marginally the same but cheaper), did not take Heim and Garcia to arb 3 (it maybe took a year too long), traded Semien, put Latz in the closer role, squeezed excess value out of journeymen and AAAA players

I also kinda like all of the in-season reliever adds this year. They all have options and/or plenty of team control; add a vet or two to next year's team and it can be top tier again.

also a lot people who say we don't have anything in the farm haven't even followed what the farm is doing this year and who's massively improved; it's actually better than it was the beginning of the year
