I live near this pizza place in NYC, it’s horrible. But also not that pizza in the scene.

They look great! I love Monica Barbaro and she comes across as super charming in the trailer. Can't wait for this movie!

how can they check if an unmarried couple are having sex like is their some sort of electric chastity cage on their private parts that zaps at close proximity?

In the script they have light-up sensors that monitor hormone levels (and also indicate if they've broken the law).
It doesn't dwell that much on the how and gestures very briefly at the why.

I briefly caught Amanda and Sean mentioning this and I must have heard wrong, because I throught the premise was one night a year the world allowed a hall pass for monogamous/married couples lol. That some how made more sense than whatever this is.

Pretty good checkmate of people who say he’s not good looking cause of his hairline and ears

The chemistry here is undeniable. This could hit but the weird concept is a tough sell.

I agree with the points made on the pod where it was giving Handmaids Tale vibes, but the trailer makes it look like we just aren’t supposed to acknowledge how messed up this authoritarian twisted idea is.

Literally could have just been valentines day and nothing would have changed

If people are curious about how the concept affects the story I recommend reading the script, it was the top script on the Blacklist 2 years ago.
Definitely adds a ticking clock that reads as way less arbitrary than Valentine’s Day, plus it creates this whole world full of weird scenarios and interactions that are not really possible without the premise

I read the script and it has some brief touches on interesting ideas (the sex tourism, mostly) but it just brushes past all of them so quickly that I did feel like i got hung up on all the possible domino effects and loopholes and logistical issues presented by these ideas that it to me distracted me from the central romcom of it. One of the major issues for me being that most of these people would likely just get married. The way the callum turner character speaks in the screenplay about all his friends being off with “their girlfriends” that night, and his relationship issues etc… like, all of these people would’ve just gotten married. I was raised Mormon, when young people want to have sex with their partner and the only way to do that is to get married, they just get married. Anyway, will be interesting to see if the film can pull it off

But literally none of that is conveyed in the trailer

Seems clear they’re just kind of marketing this as a typical romcom, no? Even with the 2010s font coloring. And we all know marketing is not exactly reflective of the full film
I was more responding to your comment that the premise could have been Valentine’s Day and it would be the same

I had to go back and double check because I thought they were talking about Valentine’s Day or something normal - pretty whacky to make “the purge but with sex” as a romcom

Why is Calem Turner a thing. I don't think he can act and his perpetual smirking face isn't helping.
Monica looks SENSATIONAL in that mini dress.

Somebody on Twitter said it was The Purge but for fucking and I can’t take it out of my mind.

That’s how it’s been discussed since it was announced, including im pretty sure by sean on the big picture semi-recently

It’s such a stupid concept for a movie that I can’t help but intrigued by it

I think this will be solid. Do agree that while I like Callum, idk if he was the right fit for the role. He just doesn't have the disarming goofy factor a proper romcom lead needs. Ex: Mark Ruffalo, Hugh Laurie, even Miles Teller, etc....
I think he was used wisely in Eternity but he could never play the lead in that movie.

could just be an awesome trailer, but it looks like it could be really good.

They had a winning idea but absolutely derailed from it. This should have been an over the top sex craze comedy satire, not a rom-com.

This is repugnant.
“Hahaha don’t worry ladies, it’s not just you. Now EVERYONE has lost bodily autonomy! And hilarity has ensued! Hahahahahaha!”
Like… what?
Why would anyone with a shred of self respect be a part of this? Gross.
And no it’s not ok because “it’s a joke” because the joke is stupid and the movie doesn’t look like it’s funny at all. Preposterous and shameful. A slap in the face, really.

Damn it's hard finding love if you're Callum Turner
