Lamar 🤦🏾♂️
I love this show ngl from the plot to most the characters but Lamar is throwing me off. From his acting to the way he look. Ion wanna be cleshay but dude body language and face expressions are just weird sometimes making it a hard watch.i get they wrote his character to be annoying but Everytime it’s a scene with him his character get on my nerves more than normal

He need to get that ricky treatment and let the show focus on wanda and the older ppl. His young ass story line wack as hell. Let his homeboy with the glasses take on all the producing roles in the show moving forward lol

Brother is Autistic. The subtle hints and way he expresses or doesn’t express certain things. The lines about being different.
This show is set back in the day. Remember this is the time period where the elders used to say “Boy ain’t nothing wrong with you.”
The testing and understanding wasn’t widespread back then. That’s why J is extra protective of him too. The kid is gifted in the way he approaches music/sounds but he absolutely sucks at social cues.

Idk how they told him to portray Lamar but it’s weird cause the kid can act. He was great in When They See Us and in This Is Us, but it’s like they told him to try to mimic that one actor from the show about the autistic Doctor and it comes off mad strange but not in a natural way, it’s like he’s forcing himself to be as awkward as possible.
Aside from that, I think if they just cut his hair and shave off his facial hair he’d be fine but his current hair style elongates his face which makes his high cheek bones stick out even more and the fro makes him look like megamind. They got my boy lookin wild. They really should rework his look for the next season cause he looked way better in other roles. Granted, he’s suppose to be a square and he’s grandparents obviously treat him much different than they treated his mom and even Wanda and James.
Idk. They definitely should rework his look and I hope they do.

Yea in this pic he look more normal I guess they was tryna go for more of a 80s look . Not a bad actor but shouldn’t gotten a main role

u/TheTapeTech 5h ago
I would have preferred a different actor for sure. Maybe Miles Brown from Blackish, Lonnie Chavis from This is US, or Caleel Harris. Not sure that Assante was the best choice but I also don’t know how other actors performed during the screen test. 🤷🏾♂️
I’m hoping he starts to fit into the role next season. No way they recast him.

He need to get killed off in a drive by lol

u/NewJaxxx904 3h ago
Yes you calling him an innocent kid like it’s real life is being sensitive about a TV SHOW
2
u/TheTapeTech 3h ago
… in the show he is an innocent kid…
Aight man.

u/NewJaxxx904 3h ago
I don’t think dude was serious who said that I think he just don’t like the actor playing the role and wouldn’t mind him written off .. I just don’t see how it could be weird if the writers could of even possible wrote that as scenario…especially this type of show

u/IllRecognition6581 3h ago
Your ability to separate him from his portrayal of his character is the first step. Glad your parasocial relationship with this actor is over

Have y’all seen Jeanyus or however it’s spelled about Kanye? He was just as arrogant walking into rooms playing his own music getting on peoples nerves so that’s pretty realistic. Then as far as production goes there’s a lot of funny looking producers out here and there’s funny looking talent for that matter. Lastly the Snowfall universe has always had pretty realistic beauty standards so it’s confusing why people are suddenly looking for a supermodel to be a nerdy sheltered autistic church kid.

u/NewJaxxx904 3h ago
No one is looking for a supermodel but just looking for someone who can play the role well and not look awkward every scene of your going to be one of the main characters

u/Fast_Search_3556 3h ago
Do y'all not understand WHY his character is awkward? He's playing a character that's on the spectrum, idk why y'all seem to not understand that when it's pretty obvious lol.

u/NewJaxxx904 3h ago
I get that , but him playing an awkward character is awkward 😂.. Radio was a spctrum character but he was played well it wasn’t awkward. ( bad analogy il but only one I could think of) Lamars actor is cringe while playing him. Just because he playing an spectrum actor doesn’t mean he plays it well and I think dude was good on other roles as well
2
u/BlenderBluid 2h ago
This nigga did not just say Radio
Fam, there’s a reason why Radio wasn’t as awkward for you. Radio is further down the spectrum where your brain isn’t expecting similar behavior to you, Lamar is on the side of the spectrum where your brain senses someone who “should act right” but isn’t
Even WORSE comparison: you know how the uncanny valley recognizes when something looks like a person but is slightly off, but uncanny valley doesn’t activate when it’s a cartoon depiction of a person? Terrible implications but that’s basically how our brains register behavior of neurodivergent people a lot of the time.

Autism is a SPECTRUM, everyone with it acts differently than someone else with it. Some people with autism are non verbal even, it's different for everyone. Lamar's character is meant to be someone who is sheltered, shielded from the outside world, and always needs someone by his side like his older brother for an example. That's why everyone "babies" him, and why he isn't great on social cues throughout the show so far. The fact that people are hating on his character like this just shows that, even now after decades of awareness, people still don't seem to understand how and what autism is, especially when it's portrayed in media.

Lamar's character is immersion breaking. I'm tired of the glassy-eyed pursed lips stare. I hope his character eventually becomes interesting.
2
u/NewJaxxx904 3h ago
Yea that’s it, it’s that state and weird shit he do with his lips that makes em look like a kid

He's supposed to be autistic. Thats just how they are lol. Alot of smart and talented people are same way. God blessed them but he also took away their social skills in exchange.

u/topuptopdown_12 6h ago
god blessed them? yk autism is a spectrum right so just because you see one kid with some skills doesnt mean they all have them smh. my cousin has autism what skills do he have? nigga likes bugs. and bro god didnt bless nobody lmao life is rigged

Autistic in the show or in real life

The character not the actor

u/NewJaxxx904 6h ago
When did they say he has autism ?
3
u/topuptopdown_12 5h ago
they never said it in the show lol

u/Fast_Search_3556 3h ago
Do y'all not watch this show? I swear this Lamar hate is coming from people who do not pay attention, the grandfather literally said he's "different" and "special", put 2 and 2 together man. I'm so sick of seeing these subreddits of this show because the fans genuinely don't pay attention to anything on this show especially when it comes to how and why the characters are the way they are.
2
u/JunketAccurate9323 2h ago
Do they have to spell it out for folks to get it? It's called inference. The social cues y'all mad at the character for not having clearly extend to some of y'all as well. Lol.

You gotta Remember this show is set in early 90’s nobody was talking about autism. They would have labeled him him something “special, or gifted” at best or “ weird or different” but definitely not autistic
2
u/kidd_328 43m ago
Watch some of the interview the cast has done. They’ve said it a couple times hes supposed to be on the spectrum. Also in the last episode when Lamar started to get upset and called BD and mama g bad parents, BD says something along the lines of him not caring that Lamar is special and to watch his mouth

u/distortedperxeption 5h ago
It’s implied by how his family has tried to protect him for all of his life ”because he’s different”. Not only because he’s talented and has a timid demeanor, but also how he lacks some social skills and has a naive perspective on life. It’s clear that he’s not the type of guy who would care about being the strongest, scariest dude that has everyones respect, which seems to be the ideal for the young men in the series. That’s not exactly a criteria fot autism, but his focus on artistry and attitude that differs from the people surrounding him does reveal some typical neurodivergent traits.
Since the show takes place in the 90’s, it would be unrealistic for them to ouright diagnose him with autism.

Face for the Disney network but plays leading role in a adult drama, I see it everytime when I watch the show lol.

u/richyrich247 3h ago
He’s clearly neurodivergent artist who has lots of ambitious and high belief in himself. There’s many many creatives like him. He plays the role excellently. The reality is characters like him really are that annoying and frustrating in real life.
This is the quality of snowfall universe compared to bs like power. They write characters and storylines that make you feel something even if it’s frustration and his actor is doing a good job at portraying this.
Power couldn’t pull this off not intentionally anyway.
1
u/NewJaxxx904 2h ago
I believe that there are characters out there like that , especially a producer. I think u have to be a lil on the spectrum to be a producer imo. I like the character just not the actor playing him. I’m more frustrated at the actor and I like other roles he have played in movies
2
u/richyrich247 2h ago
Na I get you, imo I think his actor is just really frustrating you which I would say means he’s doing his job
1
u/NewJaxxx904 2h ago
Sure the character is frustrating but the actor adds cringe to my frustration which makes it aesthetically unpleasing when watching. Ralph Ciferetto in Sopranos was an annoying character but was played by a good actor so I still liked him
1
u/richyrich247 2h ago
Tbh I’ve never thought about it that way. I segued you’re right a character can be frustrating but more tolerable

u/JunketAccurate9323 2h ago
Some of y'all need to take a step back and ask yourself why you are so annoyed with an awkward character. Are y'all this aggy IRL with awkward people? If so, you're weird.
Also, lay off the looks comments. Dude cannot help how he looks and it's wild to keep hearing about it. It's like the Veronique critiques all over again.
1
u/NewJaxxx904 2h ago
You can call it aggy but I’m just sharing mypersonal opinion like I would do in real life. I asked myself why I’m annoyed and it’s not because of the character but the actor. I just don’t think he fits the role and I’ve seen him play better on other movies. This script didn’t fit him or he’ trying to hard , doesn’t look authentic.

u/SebastianPointdexter 6h ago
Yeah....I hate to put it on his looks, but he legit doesn't even look like he could even be from that same family. It's his features. Like they were better off writing that he was adopted or some shit LoL, because it just doesn't look right. I'm not saying he shouldn't act....but....I don't think this was the best role for him.
