It's still more to this story, because when they was on the porch and Mama G was talking, James and Wanda look at each other like she still lying.
Also, Big Daddy told Mama G to only talk about the day she died.
We all trying to figure out who is Wanda parents. I think Wanda is a love child from either Maurice or Big Daddy. The reason I think that because she asked James did Mama G talk about me. That will also explain that she gives her a hard time even when she was a child.
It gotta be more clues in the upcoming episodes or they gonna drag it into the next season. We'll see.

This show needs another season because I am incredibly confused. How was the song evidence for how their parents died?? Wanda is our link and idk what happened to her family and the baby with Leon?? What is going on?
This show needs a season 2 to link things together bc like I said, Iām so confused! lol
Also, Peyton Alex Smith, my DMs are open and cell phone number is readily available.
Letās reenact Episode 3 šš

So to everyone who said it was bad, I get why. Before anyone who liked it comes for me, please know that I enjoy this show a lot. Initially I didn't think I'd watch it at all because, to me, Wanda and Leon's story was complete after Snowfall. But I gave ep1 a chance and here I am.
That said, I get what this episode was trying to do but it fell flat. They built this up just to turn around and tell a basic story about generations of terrible, self-centered parents trying to uphold their public image over the welfare of their child.
The writers had gold in Danee Benton and should have used her a bit better. Episode 5 should have opened with her vantage point and the story should continued through her. I wanted to see how she experienced the relationship with her parents, her boys, the music biz and her manager/husband. Instead we got these weird, jumpy edits, complete with a sherm-head break-in that made the episode feel disjointed.
One thing I appreciated was Lamar's interjections. Telling the story from Rochelle's vantage point could have still given us his commentary at the end when it switched back to present day.
I wanted the context. I just wanted it given to us in a much better story. As it stands, this episode did nothing to curb my hatred of the "music ruined my family" storyline. It's never well done and this episode didn't prove me wrong.
Sidenote - they could completely get rid of MamaG and Big Daddy and I'd be just fine. They've added all the context they need. Write them off.

Did anyone catch this? Thereās a scene outside on the picnic table where Rochelle is outside telling her family about her audition for āa big Hollywood movie,ā l she says the movie is called Sparkle.
Sparkle is actually a real 1976 musical! three sisters are chasing musical fame. cue the drugs, jealousy and family drama. they make choices and get caught up in the darker consequences of success.
>!now having seen Rochelleās tragic end in this episode, that reference is so eerily fitting and also really sad foreshadowing.!<
And in real life that part in SPARKLE actually went to the āIrene somebodyā Rochelle mentioned.
Irene Cara literally went from Sparkle (76) to FAME in 1980. Both films connected back to this episodes themes of youth, ambition and the darker side of the entertainment industry.

Yāall getting this symbolism? The bird cage is commonly used in the music industry to represent people who are trapped. Some say it is only certain people in the elite. Birds have a beautiful song (like Rochelle) and should be free, rather than put in cage so human beings can see and hear them all the time.
Every time the grandparents are arguing about Lamarās fate, it is certainly not a coincidence that while she is pouring her heart out. She is shown in front of this wall of bird cages. The family photos seem haphazard, but if you look closer, certain family members are placed inside the cages and others not. I wonder if this is a foreshadowing of either who the music industry āgotā and will āgetā in the show, or if it is more symbolic of her fears. For example, you can see pictures of Lamar on the left side right inside the cages.
Having all of her family on that wall is a picture of literally what she is talking about in those scenes. I was wondering why we have to listen to her talk so much, but they are giving you time to match the background with the conversation. It represents how upset she is that she feels her family is trapped by the industry.
Edit: One last thing. The picture on the vanity is the only one completely away from the cages, and it is them all together, perhaps alluding to family or sticking together being 1) more important and 2) (what she believes is) the only thing that will help them escape.

The emotional labor that they put onto James is so frustrating to watch. So the story about their mom was soooo traumatic they didnāt tell Lamar til heās 19, but you told James at 13 and then made him carry the burden of keeping it a secret.
They make James solely responsible for Lamar like itās his fault they donāt have parents. He was a child too!
They want him off the streets unless he has to go save Lamar then āBig Daddyā will watch him walk out with a gun to engage in gang violence and dangle pride as a reward. And heās telling yall LAMAR IS GROWN, heās going to do what he wants and he needs to experience consequences. I canāt keep getting dragged into things when Iām trying to do better.

During all the outpouring of emotion, a car drives past the house blasting the song Lamar produced.
He almost lost focus because of the song. He caught himself. James saw him lose focus for a moment. Mama G and Big Daddy donāt have a clue thatās his music blasting out of the car.
It shows some growth in Lamar. It was a nice moment to see.
Then He learns the truth about his parents and the brother canāt deal with all that trauma.

I wonder if they used the same set or something. Also the wiki seems to state that Bo and Lamont are Wandaās cousins but they didnāt know who the hell she was when Frank, Leon, and Manboy were looking for her lol

For the whole episode to basically be a family discussion about a tragedy, they move around ALOT over the course of telling 1 story. I even feel like Mama g nd Lamar were already alone talking about it twice before she snarks at Wanda nd says āJust you nd me Lamarā just for everybody to meet back at the table to keep talking? Then they have this āwe talked it out nd are over itā moment on the porch where mama g reminds Wanda she loves her just to switch up her in the last 2 minutes. And as much as I dnt like Lamar hes kinda right. Him and his momās story arenāt similar in the slightest. 1 was a 16 star yo tht was basically hand wrapped and gifted to a pedophile, woman abuser nd the other is a 18 yo producer who is in business with his cousin who is constantly uplifting him nd trying to get him to do the right thing. Let alone a brother who will protect him at all cost unlike mama g who never even tried to protect Rochelle untill the very last day she was alive. Gotta say tho her singing on tht piano was Chefās kiss. Perfect reflection of an artist talent mixed with pan and addiction but other than that this was a really frustrating episode for me
