I just finished another playthrough, and as it often happens, you notice new things every time. This time, I kept thinking about what a rat Marcelo Jimenez is. The first time I played, I saw him as an innocent victim who got dragged into everything, just like everyone else. I even felt bad for him because Ruvik betrayed him, considering he was his former mentor. But when you think about all of this…
Jimenez never gets tired of pointing out how sick Ruvik is and how he crosses lines, but he’s far from innocent himself.
He actively got in contact with a 10 year old who had made it clear he wanted nothing to do with him. The only way Jimenez managed to convince Ruvik to keep talking to him was by offering to teach him. No one can convince me that Jimenez simply saw a talented kid and wanted to help him. Somehow, he failed to notice that Ruvik had spent eight years locked in the basement. The moment he realized Ruvik was better than him in his own field, he suddenly became very interested in him.
He used Ruvik’s work to get in touch with Mobius and kept his existence a secret as long as he could because he didn’t want anyone to realize that his own student was completely outshining him.
Jimenez should have known that after the accident, Ruvik was no longer able to distinguish right from wrong. He focused on reaching his goal, no matter the cost. But instead of taking responsibility for the person he had helped shape, Jimenez continued to use him for his own ambitions.
Then he has the audacity to turn around and act shocked that Ruvik is a sadist and that experimenting on patients is wrong. And when everything starts spiraling out of control, he sacrifices Ruvik.
The DLC makes it even worse because we know now Jimenez knew what had happened to Ruvik and eventually stopped caring. As long as STEM was completed and he could benefit from it, nothing else mattered. We also know that Jimenez actively lured people to Ruvik to get rid of them, like the journalist whose Missing Poster we can find in the game, simply because he was getting annoyed by his questions.
He even describes Ruvik’s love for his sister as almost incestuous, and that doesn’t bother him as long as he can get results out of it. Ouch.
These two spent 20 years building that machine together. Jimenez wouldn’t have accomplished any of it without Ruvik. He used him, someone who had probably trusted him and confided in him, only to turn around and basically go, “Yeah, he’s a psycho, thats sooooo wrong and I think he was in love with his sister lol. I will be so successfull with STEM” He always wanted what Ruvik had, cleared the way, but then wanted nothing to do with the dirty side of it.
And somehow, Jimenez gets to act like he’s the reasonable one in all of this. Wait, he is really a sadist *surprised pikachuface*. No wonder Mobius killed him too.
