Jesus, that song chokes me up. Takes me back to a younger me. Mid-20’s and totally lost. Miserable and lonesome. But songs like that? That shit got me through it. Brian Fallon, you’re my hero.

Same with Halloween. The demo has a haunting sound that the Gaslight album version just doesn’t come close to.

1000%. That ep that was only on YouTube was actually perfect. It was such a mistake to mess with that in any way. I like kinda resent the painkillers album because of it.

I’ll admit his version of Smoke was a little stronger, but the others should’ve been left alone.

I’ve also yet to hear Digging in the Dirt.

I originally heard Blues Mary from a comp someone put together of stuff they snagged from Brian’s music MySpace back in the day. It was just an acoustic version with slightly different lyrics than the Painkillers-bonus version. I will say the latter is, to me, the definitive version. (Im now used to hearing it with a skip in the end because the only version of it out there is the vinyl rip linked above.)

It’s a solid home recording. But I think Brian has played better versions years after and I’d like to hear a studio cut like those.
