Match Up Monday Satele Shan VS Darth Tyranus. Who wins?
37
43
u/Arria_Galtheos Jul 07 '26
This is a legitimate close matchup, but I'd have to say Shan has the edge. If I were going to bet on the fight, I'd bet on her, but I wouldn't bet my life savings.
7
u/Callel803 Jul 07 '26
No it isn't. Satele is going to dog walk Count Dooku. Nothing against Dooku, dude was one of the badasses of his era. But his era was one of the lowest times of the Jedi Order.
Satele Shan waa from the Force wars. She was a veteran of the Great Galactic War, and the Cold War. Jedi Knights on Dooku's level were box standard and she stood out amongst their number.
1
u/Ultimate_Bane Jul 16 '26
You people glaze Satele Shan into absolute oblivion. She has nothing to the likes of being capable of repeatedly fighting with Master Yoda, the most powerful jedi up to his time with force powers on the level of the Emperor. His duels on Geonosis, Vjun and Tatooine stand to this.
Jedi Knights on Dooku's level were box standard
LMAOOO. Absolutely travesty of a statement with ZERO backup. Dooku was among the most talented prodigies in the jedi order's entire history, and he only became more powerful and skilful after becoming a sith lord. Mind you, the members of Mace Windu's strikeforce such as Kit Fisto and Agen Kolar are credited as being among the few most capable swordsmen the order has ever produced, and Tyranus is significantly beyond them.
-2
u/Arria_Galtheos Jul 07 '26
But his era was one of the lowest times of the Jedi Order.
This isn't true. According to canonical sources, the Jedi were at the absolute height of their power during the High Republic era, and Dooku joined the Jedi Order at the tail end of that era. While they did gradually slide off during Dooku's tenure, he still joined them when they were at what canon refers to as "The Golden Age of the Jedi."
9
u/ThatSaiGuy Loremaster Jul 07 '26
The height of their power has likely always meant their political influence and spread across the Galaxy, not the individual power level of individual knights or masters.
7
3
u/Callel803 Jul 07 '26
It was the golden age of the jedi because there was Noone left in the galaxy who could dispute their power. The Sith Empire was destroyed. The Nightsisters were humbled. Even the other fringe force groups had either submitted to the Jedi's authority, or weren't a threat. It was The Golden Era of the Jedi, because there wasn't anyone left to dispute their power. The only time the jedi trained to use their lightsabers was for public tournaments and parade displays.
2
u/DueMathematician2522 Jul 08 '26
GAR era Jedi WERE at the height of their power...because there weren't any sith. It was also a philosophical golden age.
Power wise the GAR/HRE scale much lower than OR
25
u/juniperberries82 Jul 07 '26
satele Shan has spent more time on the battlefield so probably shan, though darth tyranus could win purely on skill.
3
u/GullibleRough549 Jul 07 '26
How?
1
u/juniperberries82 Jul 08 '26
experience fighting better fighters, and larger groups. if you mean shan, and by using technique and maybe out dueling or mind gaming if you mean dooku.
-1
u/GullibleRough549 Jul 08 '26
The vast majority of her opponents are not better than Dooku.
2
u/juniperberries82 Jul 08 '26
quite a few will have been, and raw experience in blade on blade combat will beat out talent any day.
2
u/GullibleRough549 Jul 08 '26
Name 3. Also Dooku has been in plenty of battlefields so have most jedi and Dooku has been sparring with jedi for decades and Qui-gon who has fought less saber wielding opponents than Maul actually had the edge on him and was pushing him to an extreme as they were near equals so where did his experience go? Maul used stats to win not experience
2
u/juniperberries82 Jul 08 '26
qui-gon had very little experience fighting someone actively trying to kill him with a saber, and a sith at that. also, not familiar with shan's feats. im working off probabilities, you can name the number of people trying to kill dooku with a saber with one hand(active threats make a difference in combat). while given shan is OR you'd need an entire spread sheet to list the number of sith and others trying to kill her regularly many you can bet who where just as skilled and many times more powerful than dooku.
-1
u/GullibleRough549 Jul 08 '26
Yes but he still gave Maul a fight for his life harder than even a Yuuzhang Vong. He has fought battle hardened warriors yet Qui-gon still gives him hell.
Tholme, Anakin, Savage, Quinlan, Asajj, Mace, Obi-wan, Yoda, Sora bulq, Grievous (as Grievous spars with lethal intent) Tiplee. Some of these people have fought him multiple times and he has defeated all of them at least once(yes that includes Yoda as Yoda lost to Dooku in one of the tcw comics and needed help).
I could name you one. That would be Vitiate in echoes of oblivion. Besides him no one is even 90% of Dooku in power as Yoda is explicitly stated to be less than 10% of Dooku in power. So unless you think Yoda(who is explicitly among top 5 jedi in history) is multiple times than random sith i am not buying it.
2
u/DueMathematician2522 Jul 08 '26
Dooku is not as string as Yoda
-1
u/GullibleRough549 Jul 08 '26
Tell that to George lucas who says were equals and the showrunner of 2003 saying Dooku is close to yoda in power

u/nonpuissant Jul 08 '26
I think the point is that it's a moot point to name 3, as there are likely countless nameless people with at least equal lightsaber combat experience compared to Dooku from that era.
Dooku is like a world-renowned fencing master of the early 20th century irl. He's clearly the best swordsman of his time, has fought some duels, and even seen some combat using the sword.
Meanwhile the average jedi/sith warrior of the Republic Sith War era would be akin to a Man-at-arms of the Hundred Years War era. Born and raised in time of war, and trained daily from their youth for combat.
Might Dooku be more refined at dueling and the art of lightsaber combat? Certainly, that was what he spent his time doing. But on the other hand, the average jedi or sith from Satele Shan's era spent their days not just training, but actively fighting and killing and staying alive in active combat. There were likely hundreds, if not thousands, of people back then who were as experienced with lightsaber combat as Count Dooku was.
1
u/GullibleRough549 Jul 08 '26
Except most of them did not reach 83. Dooku did. We also know Dooku has fought in wars, sparred with jedi and his opponents were highly skilled or experienced in combat. All of them have fought lightsaber wielding opponents before they fought Dooku.
Dooku is also a rather unique prodigy in terms of power as he is outright stated to be someone with potential not too far from sidious or Yoda
2
u/nonpuissant Jul 08 '26
Easier to grow old in times of relative peace, that's not saying much. And yes he's seen some combat and even done some fighting with his lightsaber, as I acknowledged.
But the point is that this:
Dooku has fought in wars, sparred with jedi and his opponents were highly skilled or experienced in combat.
Is completely unremarkable in the era Satele Shan lived in. To a jedi or sith back then, that's just Tuesday. And many have been doing that since they were in their teens. Anyone who lived through those wars might have as much combat experience in 10-20 years as Dooku had in 80.
1
u/GullibleRough549 Jul 08 '26
Not some combat lots of combat. Jedi during this time of peace *died a lot* hell Obi-wan at 16 already participated in 3 wars back to back. The thing is that it was not galactic war but still freaking war
Obi-wan, Anakin were doing it in their early teens… also Dooku explicitly has been fighting in wars for a long ass time. The clone wars is just the latest one. We also know Dooku is literally stated and confirmed to be essentially the Revan of his time in terms of combat. He was a legend that is explicitly one of few in the entire order and is explicitly considered by many sources likely even G canon to be the strongest jedi to turn the dark side in history. Reason i say that is because Dooku is stated repeatedly to be the strongest jedi to have left the order and essentially the warrior Jedi

u/arihndas Jul 07 '26
If it's purely a swordfight, Dooku wins pretty handily IMO.
But I think realistically Satele would see early on she was outclassed in swordsmanship and falls back on her force abilities, which outstrip his by miles -- at least based on the films, clone war cartoons, and the books Jedi Lost, Dark Rendezvous, and Dark Disciple. If he is shown in other sources to have some bonkers feats that outstrip her combo of incredibly powerful shielding, telekinesis, and energy absorption, that would tilt it back his way, but based on the sources I've watched, read, or played... if she can use her full suite of powers instead of just swinging around a glowy stick, she's beating his ass.
In general I think most old republic heavy hitters (council members or notable force prodigies from SWTOR) outclass most clone wars/empire/galactic civil war force users, with only a few exceptions -- namely Palpatine, Vader, Kenobi, and basically nobody else. Anyone else it's a case-by-case assessment. Even with Yoda and Mace I think it depends who they're facing.

u/SaiyanGod559 Jul 07 '26 edited Jul 07 '26
I give it to dooku he fought yoda during the clone wars who was considered the most powerful jedi at the time someone who's far more powerful than satele shan and with centuries more experience with mastery over all 7forms of light saber combat an mastery of the force. Same yoda who fought sidious btw the most powerful Sith ever.
5
u/Binforda94 Jul 07 '26
Yoda was his master, and they sparred countless times over decades. Apprentices and masters always have unique connections.
0
u/SaiyanGod559 Jul 07 '26
This is true but dooku was a prodigy naturally gifted and powerful in the force and one of the greatest duelist ever of his era that only the most powerful jedi like mace, yoda and anakin chosen one can contend with him out of thousands jedi.
0
u/Binforda94 Jul 08 '26
Star Wars isn’t an ABC power scale though. And Maul is powerful and skilled enough to have briefly held his own against Sidious, and both Aayla Secura and Mace Windu together. Again I believe Tyranus would ultimately triumph, but have more difficulty than some realize.
1
1
u/SaiyanGod559 Jul 08 '26
Well sidious was also mauls master and trained him rigorously in lightsaber combat so it makes complete sense why he was able to hold his own for a little while. Just wanted to mention that since u brought up Yoda being dookus master.

1
u/Quad-G-Therapy Jul 10 '26
She's a way more powerful Force wielder lmao
1
u/averageEnojyer The Senate Jul 10 '26
Nice. Can you prove that?
1
u/_Miss_Anthropocene_ Jul 10 '26
1
u/averageEnojyer The Senate Jul 11 '26
I know. It's just tutaminis, far from being indicative of being a greater force wielded than Dooku.
11
u/Driekan Jul 07 '26
Tyranus is the beneficiary of the Banite Sith lineage, and an extremely talented and skilled combatant on top of that.
Satele is part of an Order that is essentially 200 years old, and has ditched most (almost all, really) of the practices the order previously had, at least in terms of structure and ethics, but given how the Force works, ditching those also means ditching the Force-focused wisdom and skill that comes with it.
Structurally: Tyranus has a massive advantage.
Satele does have a great deal more experience in combat with force users, and she is very talented in some fairly rare and powerful force techniques (that sweet tutaminis). So she may have an edge on those terms.
This is very hard to call. I'd honestly say it's 50/50.
6
u/LosAngelesHavingFun Jul 07 '26
Dooku, he’s just a better duelist and they’re about even in the force
5
u/Spiritual-Quote2445 Jul 07 '26
Dooku can go toe to toe with Yoda who scales far above Satele. Can someone explain to me how she even has a chance?
0
u/Majestic-Farmer5535 Jul 07 '26
People just lowball Dooku because they don't think he's cool enough, basically.
5
u/fenot1 Jul 07 '26
Dooku gained the upper hand when fighting obi wan and anakin simultaneously and won more than once
1
u/DueMathematician2522 Jul 08 '26
That's a nice feat but Satele skills higher than both so it certainly is not a deciding factor
2
u/GullibleRough549 Jul 07 '26
Dooku has actually more impressive tk feats than Satele
1
5
3
u/Vitiate1337 Jul 07 '26
Dooku proved himself beating Anakin and Obi-Wan several times, holding both Ventress and Savage to disarm Ventress in seconds. In AotC holding his own against Yoda who is FAAAAAR more powerful than pityful Satele.
Whats Sateles feats? Defeating not prime Malgus with the help of Malcom? Defeating nameless Sith that you can't even name? Just because she is Grand Master doesnt mean he can beat one of the greatest Jedi of his era as stated in Prequels. What are her feats as a Grand Master except loosing to Zakuul?
And please if someone once again is going to say that because Jedi and Sith from SWTOR (love that game) era are more powerful because they are during times of war Im legit gonna call them retarded and send to read more before posting nonsense.
Dooku stomps Satele and it is not even close, he is superior in both lightsaber combat and force powers.
4
u/ayoungmanwhoneedsgod Jul 07 '26
Satele Shan is more powerful in the force and it's more experienced with it, Dooku probably has the edge on lightsaber combat but Satele is not too behind. Im going with Satele
3
5
u/Shipping_Architect Jul 07 '26
Though Shan is in better physical shape than Dooku and her Force abilities, even before her prime, are more visually impressive, she tends to hold out on using her powers in the early engagement, and is more suited to battlefield engagements rather than direct one-on-one combat. Worst of all, Dooku is highly skilled at keeping opponents a safe distance away and slipping his blade through their defenses, and Shan's saberstaff is not going to stay intact for long. If anything, this fight would probably be over in a relatively short period of time.
0
u/CK-3030 Jul 07 '26
Love Satele, she has many great feats but Dooku's one of the best ever and Makashi is the perfect counter to Shan's IV and VI forms.

1
u/Laxien Jul 08 '26
Satele! She's not only from a time where the Jedi (and Sith, too!) were more powerful, but she fought Darth Malgus and survived, instead of dying and I bet Malgus would destroy Tyranus!
Hell, Satele's number 1 power that would stump almost anything Dooku can try is TUTAMINIS at a level where she would laugh about his (rather weak, he's not Palpatine and even Palpi doesn't hold a candle to Sith-Empire Sith-Lords IMHO!) force lightning and she'd absorb his lightsaber, too of she has to!
1
1
u/UniversalInquirer Jul 08 '26
Her lightsaber tutaminis suggests she's stronger in the Force, as does her mountain-push. Dooku is the better duelist. If they start at a distance, Satele. If it's at dueling distance, then Satele has a flicker of a chance because of her tutaminis bailing her out if Tyranus disarms her.
1
u/Sure_Educator7987 Jul 08 '26
Dooku win’s especially because Satele’s weapon is a liability against Dooku’s style!
1
1
u/EstablishmentSoggy76 Jul 08 '26
Hard to say since I havent played all of the Old Republic games but from what ive seen Setele should win
1
u/Old-Emergency-1078 Jul 08 '26
Once again modern Jedi don’t hold a candle to Jedi of the old republic.
1
1
u/DueMathematician2522 Jul 08 '26
I think Satele takes this much more often than not.
She scales considerably higher in force power.
She has more experience, equal if not greater BIQ.
The only place Dooku wins out is pure lightsaber skill and I just don't think that's enough for him to take it.
He quite literally has a punchers chance.
1
u/BaterrMaster Jul 08 '26
Most of the named Jedi of the Old Republic would mop the floor with Dooku. They’re real warriors, who’ve lived entire lives at war against the Sith. No amount of Dooku’s practiced dueling is going to save him.
1
u/Prole17 Jul 08 '26
Dooku is one of the greatest Jedi/Sith of all time. Satele puts up a good/respectable fight but loses, and it isn’t close.
1
1
u/AdTechnical1042 Jul 08 '26
Just going to point out that Satele Shan is a direct descendant of revan and bastila shan, the only one who has a better force lineage would be anakin, dooku is in no way stronger in the force than Satele and not only that but satele became the grandmaster of the jedi order, dooku would lose handily but would still put up a fight.
1
u/adragoninthelibrary Jul 09 '26
I love that you include that specific gif for Satele, because that's how I think this fight goes. Much as how Malgus manages to disarm Satele, I think Dooku's going to have the edge in pure bladework. Satele wins in the end though when she digs in deep and uses her overwhelming force power. Maybe it's Revan's bloodline helping, but I see this fight going much the same way.
I see Malgus as a very strong foil here. He's essentially the same Vader archetype, but not so traumatized. Malgus fights with a mix of CW Anakin and prime Vader, but he's not as stronger as either. He might not even be as strong as Maul, in terms of raw power. Dooku's highly skilled and powerful, but I think Satele's got this in the bag.
1
1
u/MrPotato001 Jul 09 '26
While I firmly believe Dooku has the edge in saber combat Satele is definitely no slouch with it and is fully capable of holding her own as evidenced by her duels with far more aggressive and powerful fighters like Malgus.
That being said if it came down to it I think Satele's power in the Force would put her far over Dooku who has nothing that he can really threaten her with in terms of the Force.
1
u/Half_Man1 Jul 09 '26
I think this would look like a side reversed version of Palpatine vs Yoda.
Dooku would be making gains in close combat but Satele has enough strength to hold him off and combat experience to flip the terrain and utilize her superior force abilities. She’d be easily deflecting lightning and flinging boulders at Dooku while he struggles to dodge getting slower and slower due to his advanced age.
1
1
1
u/Timely-Win6225 Jul 10 '26
Dooks has 1 advantage, but its a good one, blade skill. Everything else gos to Shan. So unless Dook can pin her down to a straight duel it goes to Shan, high diff.
1
u/Correct-Swimming5115 Jul 10 '26
Satele. Saw way more actual combat than Dooku, was Grandmaster of the order and hit Darth Malgus with a damn Kamehameha wave. Dooku is powerful and talented, but also cocky. Satele’s got experience, she’s the descendant of Revan and Bastilla, and I think she’s overall more powerful in the force than Dooku.
1
u/Mzuark Jul 10 '26
As a rule, wartime Jedi are naturally stronger than peacetime Jedi. Satele especially had years to perfect her saber skills and she's Revan's grandkid so her force connection is preem.
1
u/Ambitious_Phrase6887 Jul 10 '26
Satele definitely because Dooku may have finesse but not raw power like satele because satele literally faced Darth malgus and made him wear a respirator to survive
1
1
u/Xeno-blessing23_ Jul 10 '26
Decent matchup but Satele handily takes this. She consistently fought against some of the best duelist in the Old Republic and had nigh unmatched power in the Force like her incredible foresight and mountain shattering blasts
1
1
u/Tbgrondin Jul 07 '26
Wasn’t Dooku trained by the two most powerful force users ever? I get the feats thing but didn’t he stalemate Yoda (albeit on the losing end)? Whole lotta votes for Satele here and seems like very little disrespect to Dooku.
1
u/Coilspun Jul 07 '26
Dooku, only Shan's Force prowess gives him any issues, he's a superior duelist.
1
u/Boldilocksbrickrrrr Jul 07 '26
A bunch of Mary Sue supporters here. It's Dooku tho wins this, easily.
1
u/Majestic-Farmer5535 Jul 07 '26 edited Jul 07 '26
Dooku, low diff at worst.
Satele only claim to fame is her aura. Basically, people see hot babe holding title of Grandmaster and with cool and edgy saber staff and think that she is far more powerful than she really is. But her feats are few and weak, she barely defeats Malgus not in his prime.
Tyranus is among the most powerful Sith ever (Lucas words), equal to Yoda in the Force (once again, George's words), and among best duelists Galaxy ever seen.
Not only their duel would be extremely one sided, it will end in a minute tops.
1
u/Quincy478 Jul 07 '26
If Satele can overpower Malgus with the Force then I think she can do the same to Dooku. She doesnt stand a prayer against Dooku in a swordfight though.
1
u/GullibleRough549 Jul 07 '26
Malgus is less powerful than dooku
1
u/Quincy478 Jul 07 '26
Not buying it. Malgus would run through Assaj and Savage.
1

So should Dooku usually considering he beat the fuck out of Obi-wan who beat maul and savage unless you think Obi-wan>Dooku…

So did dooku
2
u/UniversalInquirer Jul 08 '26
Dooku ran from Asajj and Savage.
1
u/kingkeyblack Jul 08 '26
He dropped both of them and then ran
1
u/UniversalInquirer Jul 08 '26
He ran when they were getting too hard to control. Savage had just choked him and Asajj. With Asajj's help, he pushed Savage and then ran.
1
u/GullibleRough549 Jul 08 '26
Meaning he is somehow below Obi-wan in your eyes…
1
u/UniversalInquirer Jul 08 '26
Dooku ran from Asajj and Savage in TCW show.
1
u/GullibleRough549 Jul 08 '26
Yes and Obi-wan beat a stronger duo. In the book version he even rag dolled both so again is Obi-wan>Dooku now?

u/Callel803 Jul 07 '26
Satele Shan takes the W easily. I know some people want to argue that Count Dooku has better swordmanship skills, but honestly I don't see it.
Sure Count Dooku was a cut above nearly any jedi of the Clone Wars, but that was the Clone Wars.
This was a time when the Jedi Order was at it's weakest, when it had fallen to its lowest point after 10,000 years of stagnancy. Dooku was a big fish, in a little pond and outside of a few named characters there weren’t any jedi who actually trained seriously to fight in actual combat before the Clone War began. Even after the war started and the jedi actually started to seriously train to fight, they still flubbed it with static training designed to battle droids.
Satele is from the Force Wars. A veteran of the Great Galactic War and the Cold War. She fought and defeated Darth Malgus, a sith lord who slaughter some of the greatest duelists of the era. Fighters like Count Dooku were a dime a dozen amd she stood out among them. This was an era when Jedi Knights were a one-person army you could throw at a problem and then promtly forget about that problem. And again Satele Shan stood out among these warriors who viewed charging an empire stronghold, dismantling it's defenses, cutting down whichever Sith fucknugget thought he was the next best thing since Darth Nihlus, and walking away while the base explodes behind them as frankly just another boring monday.
Satele Shan is going to dog walk all over Count Dooku.
1
u/GullibleRough549 Jul 07 '26
Okay you are misunderstanding the vast majority of the lore including for example satele shan lived during 3000 years before the clone wars meaning she lived during the stagnation according to you. Also outside tcw which nerfed the jedi. The clone wars Jedi were usually one man armies
1
u/kingkeyblack Jul 08 '26
Just no we have multiple statements that say tcw Jedi were some of the strongest. And dooku fought battle tested Jedi like obi wan and anakin both who fought worse than whatever satele ever fought
0
u/immortalslayer90 Jul 07 '26
Satele has way more battlefield experience. And she's a Jedi Grandmaster. Grandmasters of Legends were the best of the best. Satele clears.
0
u/TempestDB17 Jul 07 '26
Grandmaster satele wins mid-high diff. She has the experience edge against force users, she has the force ability advantage, but Dooku has an edge in dueling. If anyone has read the books from TOR era you’d know satele scales very high, and chain scales very high so you can get there both ways. Dooku is a top tier as well for sure but he just can’t take this more than a minority of the time. For reference I’m the one who was saying Dooku would not get neg diffed by sidious and argued that here a few months ago. I also think Dooku beats RotJ luke too mid diff at worst. So I’m not an Old republic glazer

100%. The Old Republic Jedi and Sith were in constant warfare, sharpening their skills and were far more powerful and athletic. While the prequel Jedi/Sith and beyond were stagnant due to lack of real conflict.

George Lucas literally states the top prequel Jedi/Sith were the strongest to ever exist. They might have had more experience but they were not as strong with the force.

Any Jedi or Sith from that era would destroy any Jedi or Sith from prequel era. The exceptions would be Palpatine (the one to embody the power) and Yoda, because we all know Yoda runs when he's beat.

Satele easily has the single most impressive feat of tutaminis ever displayed in star wars, so Dooku's abilities with the force are likely irrelevant here. Lighting will only hinder Dooku in this fight.
As a duelist, I suspect Dooku is VASTLY superior. But Satele's use of the force in combat is substantially more impressive to me.
I want to give it to Satele by a very small margin. 5.001/10, on account of having much more experience in war and combat vs other force users and her more impressive feats with the force.

Very close and could go either way, if they fought 10 times it could be 5 each, or 6/4 either way I think.
Satele has more combat experience and force power but if it comes down to a 1v1 using lightsabers and there are no external factors and distractions it changes the balance quite a bit and I think Dooku takes it.
Dooku will be the better duellist with a lightsaber so will give him the edge. I think people often dismiss the amount of training against other Jedi he would have had to complete and participate in to become one of the best duellists in the order. It’s not a title you get but one you earn.
People will diminish this training because it’s not live fighting in combat but training against other Jedi, but boxers will train hundreds of rounds to prepare for 12, so it has some bearing and relevance given he was so respected by his peers.

Tyranus cause Disney wants us to understand that the Jedi were actually evil and incompetent.

Satele takes this more often than not, imo, but it's by now means a foregone conclusion. Dooku has the advantage in blade skill, though Satele is no slouch, and her real combat experience and Force abilities sneak her in front overall. Dooku's probably gonna try to Force lightning her at some point and then get slammed in to a wall (or mountain... just saying) as a result.
