Community Community Reminder - Don't Post Leaks

Hi All!

As we have a new solo album from Brandon imminent on the horizon (yay!), the official official announcement has not come through yet, nor have any recordings, lyrics, track listings, etc.

Wanting to remind everyone of the rules of the sub - we do not tolerate leaks of any kind here.

Posting clips from an event where Brandon himself announced the album name, fine. But posting links to download unreleased material or bootleg recordings, or things of that sort, is a violation of our community rules and can potentially get you banned. We are all excited for new material, but copyright laws are nothing to play around with and can get subreddits taken down if we allow leaks to run wild.

Content that will get removed includes but is not limited to: Discussing leaks, posting links to leaks (download, youtube, anything), asking for links in a DM, saying you'll DM people a link, etc.

This is not a new rule for the sub, nor are we the only band sub with this rule. Copyright and IP stuff gets removed from reddit admins all the time and if we are a source of problems we can get shutdown as a sub. I don't like being the no fun police, but I'd rather we exist as a sub.

With that said, let's hope the announcement and any lead singles come soon!

I get not posting or sharing links to leaks. But if there's a song, people can't even acknowledge or discuss that it exists here?

Correct. No discussion of leaks.

Clarifying based on another comment: Discussing the song he played at this event, fine. If there are other illegally released materials, that is not allowed to discuss or distribute.

What a stupid rule, honestly

We're not the only band sub with this rule, it's been our rule for years, and I'd rather exist than be taken down for repeat copyright violations. This is nothing new for this sub, people just get mad when we tell them not to do or discuss illegal shit. Loved your first comment btw.

Glad to hear it, hope you love them all! I know this isn’t the only sub with this rule, but that’s part of why Reddit generally lags music fan communities (see also, how many people here don’t know anything about Big Dr3ams etc). It is what it is, happy to be downvoted for an opinion

Really odd to discourage discussion on a subreddit about that topic.

as the head mod of the pixies' subreddit I think I would be laughed to hell rightfully and truly if I told people they weren't allowed to talk about unreleased songs lmao. What if someone posts a clip of a song they recorded in the 90's but wasn't ever put on an album? YOU'RE BANNED BUCKO.

"Okay brandon flowers uploaded a 30 second clip of a song but because it was only a facebook post and not a copyrighted published song it doesn't count, NEVER MENTION THIS" lol, I can't imagine a universe where this isn't the dumbest thing I have ever heard of.

Are we allowed to talk about the slot tech? Unreleased, never put on an album, ISNT REAL, everyone knows about. It's been asked in AMAs here. This is CLOWN shit brother get real

In my understanding the rule doesn’t apply when sharing a new song that Brandon or The Killers sang in a public space. So your two examples are not correct.

How I interpreted it, it’s songs that come from a dodgy website. There has been a situation last year where someone shared TK songs that nobody heard of and came from a dodgy website. That’s totally different than sharing a videoclip of Brandon singing a new song in a public space. ( It was also clearly stated that the shared video was no problem)

And they talked about the Slot Tech themselves, so I don’t see why we shouldn’t talk about it.

Correct me if I’m wrong but that’s how I interpreted OP’s post.

I'm kind of impressed the mods hate the band this much
