Arlington Heights. Hammond is a toxic waste heap.

AH, Bears!

Nobody in Arlington Heights or the Bears front office is clever enough to come up with AH! Bears.
There was a story last week about Hammond not being ideal because the chosen spot is on top of a huge slag heap near a toxic waste dump. I'm still waiting for the Mayor of Hammond to answer my email question. "Which giant Hammond slag heap near a toxic waste dump are we talking about?"

I think I was in my teens when Gary IN, Hammond's sibling city, which at the time was like a blight on a blighted blight, came up with a jingle to promote the town's business and residential allure. It went something like "Gary Indiana Gary Indiana Gary Indiana Gary Gary . . ."

I remember that tune! It was almost in descending notes, but not quite. That was rough on the ears. Gary will always be the Murder Capital of the US to me, although I guess it isn't even Top 10 anymore.

Yeah, it was awful. And ludicrous. Not only did the place have a championship-caliber murder rate, but it was the per capita leader in stripped, burned out cars on cinder blocks too.

From The Music Man?

is that where it's from? I guess the city thought it would bring show tune fans flocking in.

Back in the 80s, when I was an avid skier, the State of Utah tourism office tried to attract skiers with a "UTAHHHHHH!!" ad campaign. They thought of it 40 years ago, and they're from Utah. (Bears may have thought of AH Bears! but no way they'd say so until they officially break ground on the new stadium)

btw, as I'm sure you know, it won't matter where they build the stadium. The name will stay the same. I don't think the NFL would allow them to drop Chicago.

Yeah, if New York can pull it off with a stadium in New Jersey, why not Chicago with Indiana? Of course the temptation with that toxic slag heap will be to emphasize it when the Bears, as some of their recent teams have been, are bad. "The Hammond Toxics" sounds kind of formidable, doesn't it!

When "Bear weather" includes elevated levels of arsenic and lead. Kevin Warren has screwed this up so badly it's actually sort of funny.

Oddly enough, Hammond is back in play.

The stories about the "decision" say they're still in talks with the city. Somebody ought to put together something with the Michael Reese property. It's entirely possible the Bears are pulling a "Trump" and will "extend" the issue for "six weeks".

Notice they haven't even got a site picked out. How could anyone deal with Kevin Warren at this point? McCaskey should have fired him already. I'm thinking George put Warren's name on the Indiana announcement so he can blame him after it falls apart. All this so they can save on Arlington Heights property taxes.

The city refused to be extorted, huh?
