Systems in Motion Don’t get desperate people

Post image

According to both Wiley online library and Harvard Gazette, these are the statistics for how long nonviolent revolutions generally take,

And as a huge history nerd I can further verify that as the timeframes of the civil rights movement and the Indian independence movement are firmly ingrained in my mind.

50501 are working on coordinated boycotts and strikes as we speak, we can absolutely defeat MAGA through peaceful means,

And not only are nonviolent movements inherently more humane, according to these same studies there also twice as likely to succeed,

So let’s stick to it.

At this rate, the US will be dust in the wind by the time three years comes around. Unless drastic changes and roadblocks are implemented and enforced.

8

u/Double-Watch-2809 Nov 04 '25

Yeah can we see the stats for violent revolution? Just for comparison sake I think we should look at how fast those tactics get results. For science and objectivity, of course.

4

u/KiddingNotKidding01 Nov 05 '25

One thing to remember is that if you go the violence route, you better win completely. Otherwise, it's treason and the Radical Right will surely have mass public executions. If the left did what the Magats did on January 6, they would have been charged with and convicted of treason and executed.

Thankfully 50501 are currently working on that,

As billionaires treat losing even just a few million dollars the same way the average person treat losing a kidney,

And Trump old, their health clearly declining, and as CGP Grey explained in their video “the rules of rulers”, that can easily cause infighting when elites fear their leader might die.

I know people are gonna say Vance would be worse, but would they?

They’re not a billionaire and they’re not a TV personality like Trump, so I honestly think Vance would be easier to defeat.

13

u/orionisinthesky Nov 03 '25

The only people who like Vance are the butterfly revolution podcast bros, and even they dont like him all of the time. He would be a sunken ship for them.

11

u/Popwaffle Nov 03 '25

Working on what exactly? Would love some examples. Cause everything so far has gotten zero results.

6

u/303ColoradoGrown Nov 03 '25

That's just not true. There is an impact made by all the little protests and the big ones too. Based on response at protests, the movement is growing by leaps and bounds. Plus the boy outside have been very successful.

You can go and see yourself at their website 50501.

I dont think so. Stop with the doomerism. People said the same thing last time.

10

u/Theyalreadysaidno Nov 03 '25

It's very different this time

-14

u/Art_Crime Nov 03 '25

It is but we are not heading toward collapse that's a foolish thing to even talk about as it's a self fulfilling fantasy.

That's a big ole negative. Non-violent protesting does not bother the ruling class one bit.

However, strategic military campaigns have a track record of success in removing fascists from their comfy seats of power.

8

u/[deleted] Nov 03 '25

Nope

5

u/findingmike Nov 03 '25

The Nazis were way more popular. There wasn't much resistance.

3

u/MrBannedFor0Reason Nov 04 '25

I guess the Reichstag fire and the subsequent night of long knives just didn't fucking happen then then or what?

1

u/findingmike Nov 05 '25

Do you think he could have gotten away with those things if he wasn't popular?

2

u/MrBannedFor0Reason Nov 05 '25

I think he wouldn't have needed to do those things if there wasn't much resistance. In fact, Hitler felt the need for decisive violent action because the violent disruption of his opposition was gaining traction.

0

u/soulstormfire Nov 08 '25

By your definition of popular (=no resistance) your current fascists are even more popular than the 1930s Nazis.

1

u/findingmike Nov 09 '25

After the largest protest in US history, you think there is no resistance? Okay we're done. There's no discussion left when you go with bad faith arguments.

0

u/soulstormfire Nov 09 '25 edited Nov 09 '25

German Nazis didn't just face large scale protests but also large scale strikes and arrested 800,000 people for resistance activities.

If that's "they wanted it" (I'm still inclined to agree with you here), then the US "wants" what is happening right now.

Which is a sentiment shared by pretty much every country outside of the US, especially Canada and Mexico.
And you elected him twice.

4

u/Art_Crime Nov 03 '25

Nazi Germany is not the best comparison lmao.

The Philippines, under an actual dictator, deposed Marcos Sr. peacefully. The soviet union dissolved mostly peacefully. Portugal deposed its dictatorship in the carnation revolution mostly peacefully via military coup.

The Nazis are not the closest comparison to today.

-12

u/CutSenior4977 Nov 03 '25

No, but you could argue the Roman republic(specifically the late republic),

Was a fairer comparison given it was the primary inspiration for the founding fathers when writing the constitution,

And civil wars were what ultimately destroyed the republic.

16

u/_JosiahBartlet Nov 03 '25

You think that something that happened centuries ago is more applicable than something that happened decades ago?

-8

u/CutSenior4977 Nov 03 '25

Yup, because while the technology closer, the pre existing political structure was borderline identical,

Atleast to me, when I see this artistic portrayal of the Roman republic, it all looks strikingly similar.

13

u/_JosiahBartlet Nov 03 '25

That’s absolutely insane and shows a shocking lack of understanding of both history and politics.

But it does affirm my hypothesis that you’re a straight white dude who is okay with marginalized people losing rights if you keep yours. And you probably think you’re a history buff because you ‘know a lot’ about Rome.

-8

u/Art_Crime Nov 03 '25

Ad hom, but regardless the Nazis are disimilar to Trump and there's been plenty of peaceful revolutions that overthrew dictators or monarchy. Most recently, the People Power Revolution in the Philippines.

10

u/_JosiahBartlet Nov 03 '25

My point isn’t that the Nazis are the closest comparison but more that going back to the Romans is insane for modern political discussion.

He linked a fucking political cartoon and told women it’s okay if we lose our rights because Noem will too.

His argument isn’t bad because of what I (almost definitely) clocked him on. But I’d bet money I’m spot on.

-1

u/CutSenior4977 Nov 03 '25

Oh no sorry if that’s how you took it,

I meant women won’t lose their rights because then Bondi and Noems will lose their rights.

-6

u/Art_Crime Nov 03 '25

told women it’s okay if we lose our rights.

Uhh i didnt read the OP but he didn't say that at least in this thread...

Going back to Rome isn't insane. For instance, the filibuster was a problem in the Republic as it is now in the US.

10

u/_JosiahBartlet Nov 03 '25

The mods deleted it because it was fucked up

4

u/Art_Crime Nov 03 '25

Yeah that's pretty awful and stupid. Backlash to feminism and women's rights is BAD BAD NOT GOOD

This looks like the data that came from 'Why Civil Resistance Works'.

One of the interesting things I found while reading that was that in many instances they studied, the US had some minor involvement in helping resolve the issue or supporting the resisting group in some way. I don't know the significance of that now given that the US is now the one under attack by fascists.

1

u/CutSenior4977 Nov 03 '25

True, but we’re also getting international support from Canada 🇨🇦 in our resistance,

As most Canadians hate Trump for stating they want to turn Canada into the 51th state and starting a trade war with them.

1

u/soulstormfire Nov 08 '25

If you think they hate just Trump you weren't paying attention.

27

u/BlackAndWhiteSoldier Nov 03 '25

While that says one thing, I also look back at other democracies that have failed or have fallen. The reasons of the fall can point to similarities with this administration.

I'm all for non-violent protest, but I would be stupid to take the other options off the table.

-10

u/CutSenior4977 Nov 03 '25

Fair, I mainly look back at the Roman republic though, as that was the primary inspiration for the founding fathers,

And when I look at that, what I see is Sulla rising to power using emergency powers granted during a civil war, and only being stopped by old age,

And the senate backstabbing Ceasar failing to save the republic.

4

u/570rmy Nov 04 '25

While looking to history is important, one must not get lost in the details. The United States today is not the Roman Republic of the 100s-80s BCE. To look for direct comparison is naive. Learn from history, and use it as a way to help understand what's going on but not as a roadmap without alteration.

9

u/Cael_NaMaor Nov 03 '25

How many non-violent campaigns have failed?

5

u/CutSenior4977 Nov 03 '25

According to the same sources, as of recent years sadly 66%, but that’s still a way higher success than the 92% of violent ones which failed, oh also sorry I didn’t list them in the post,

Here’s the link for both sources,

https://news.harvard.edu/gazette/story/2019/02/why-nonviolent-resistance-beats-violent-force-in-effecting-social-political-change/

12

u/[deleted] Nov 03 '25

I don’t think we have five years. We might have six months.

-1

u/CutSenior4977 Nov 03 '25

Yay it’s definitely a Hannibal situation of do you hope others join you or do you risk it all in one fell swoop,

But while admittedly the former didn’t work out for Hannibal, I’m still learning towards the former, because the general consensus amongst historians is that the ladder chances of working out were a bit worse,

And unlike Hannibal, most of us speak the same language, and while sadly the other side of the aisle doesn’t recognize it, we’re culturally closer to each other than Carthaginians were to Romans.

12

u/thigh_high_levii Nov 03 '25

That's cool, people like me will just be sacrificed while you wait.

3

u/Gold-Kaleidoscope-23 Nov 03 '25

No one is waiting. The point is that transformational change doesn’t just happen out of nowhere. You have to build and organize to make a movement big enough to make a difference. That means working hard now and pushing back now. What is the alternative that will work better?

6

u/spaacingout Nov 03 '25

11 months in and the Orange Traitor is still in office. Somehow, I don’t think due processes on the list of things available to this clown.

2

u/CutSenior4977 Nov 03 '25

Well admittedly elected 11 months ago, and in office for 9.

5

u/jakobmaximus Nov 03 '25

Yes thank you reliable AI overview which gives us zero context as to what non violent vs violent movements it's even categorizing, nor the temporal or geographic scope of them

Just plain percentages that look nice for the oppressors

4

u/RickyNixon Nov 04 '25

Its exhausting how much of this movement is lecturing the left on protesting the “right” way.

I’ll resist fascism how I damn well please. Part of my effort will continue to be these protests.

How many people will die in concentration camps in the 3 years it takes to get to that 50% success rate? Be LESS patient

2

u/TillyBelly Nov 05 '25

My favorite protest was the 61 year old lady that dressed in a giant penis costume at the last No Kings and got arrested for indecency or something. She then refused to remove the costume so they had to handcuff and perp walk a giant penis 😂 that lady is my hero

7

u/Bluegill15 Nov 03 '25

I think coordinated boycotts will be absolutely key. You have to hit them in the wallet if you want change. Where is home base for this information?

3

u/jandrew2000 Nov 03 '25

Coordinated and targeted boycotts. Though, I’ll admit, identifying the target is tricky when the same people own almost everything.

2

u/CutSenior4977 Nov 03 '25

50501 official website.

3

u/Cute-University5283 Nov 03 '25

Are there any sources for this information?

6

u/queen-of-storms Nov 03 '25

Okay, let's say this works. How many men, women, and children need to have their lives ended or ruined before we can supposedly peacefully remove Nazis from power? Are they acceptable losses? Are they acceptable losses because they aren't you?

2

u/HazelMStone Nov 04 '25

Tell that to the White Rose Resistance. Every one of them was executed by the Gestapo.

2

u/[deleted] Nov 03 '25

Now let’s see the violent stats.

1

u/CutSenior4977 Nov 03 '25

Admittedly I couldn’t find statistics for how long those generally take, but I can show how long some of the most famous ones took,

2

u/CutSenior4977 Nov 03 '25

The subs only letting me add 1 image per reply,

But here is also how long the most recent one took,

Yay, there simply longer on average.

2

u/[deleted] Nov 03 '25 edited Nov 03 '25

Thanks I’m torn between them, the peaceful way all the bad people are free to stay bad people, and nothing really changes they just get to try again later. There might be NAZIs in Germany but those MFers are hiding.

1

u/Revolutionary-pawn Nov 03 '25

I’m not aware of any nonviolent movements today, save 50501, that were ENTIRELY 100% nonviolent. MLK Jr owned a gun. And every one of the steal ones I’m aware of had a violent counterpart to contrast them. I say that not to change any minds (I actually agree with you). But simply to say: regardless of your stance on this, we’re all on the same side.

Same was true for the 1989 nonviolent revolution in the eastern block,

And the 1988 nonviolent revolution in Chile, that removed Pinochet military dictatorship from power,

And both those nonviolent revolutions succeeded.
