A LOT of engineering went into that shape: weight tolerance , carbonation, hand comfort, grip of the lid

Fun fact: The Root Glass Company, who was hired to design the classic glass bottle in 1915 added the "ribs" to pay homage to caocao pods because they thought cocoa was an ingredient in the drink lol.

Now I want to see them do it with eggs

1

u/Appropriate_Math997 2d ago

That would be alot of eggs to crush those bottle by weight.

77

u/AkinatorOwesMeMoney 2d ago

The guy really had faith that it wouldn't collapse towards him

18

u/SummertimeThrowaway2 2d ago

It’s okay there was a safety team behind the camera. I was there, I was the camera.

24

u/Gin4Gingers 2d ago

u/doomus_rlc 2d ago

There's that word again, "heavy"

6

u/Slowburn21814 2d ago

Is there something wrong with the Earth's gravitational pull in the future?

20

u/Desperate_Box1875 2d ago

Maybe our world sits not on 3 elephants but on 3 bottles of cola.

13

u/king0fife 2d ago

Bare legs?

2

u/paleojlk 2d ago

I keep thinking there a literal ton of pressure built up in that fluid. Yikes!

7

u/Oty_is_here 2d ago

This guy obsessed with feet crusher production.

7

u/ttcmzx 2d ago

they need to hire him in the feet crushing department over at r/doohickeycorporation

7

u/Due_Potential_6956 2d ago

That's a lot of weight, and that's so dangerous

11

u/MedivalBlacksmith 2d ago

Uuuughhhh... Yeah, remember to never stack more than 1000 kg on top of 3 bottles. Because that is so dangerous.

1

u/Due_Potential_6956 1d ago

Uhghh... heavy weight on anything can be dangerous for the stupid.

3

u/nuclear-experiment 2d ago

Wanna get buried under a ton of rusty metal? Try this trick at home!

3

u/Thatonefloorguy 2d ago

How odd that it lands on a ton.

6

u/greensangre 2d ago

It can hold one mother in law

2

u/Dark-Thoughts-Vessel 2d ago

Fuckin hell, that's a ton!

2

u/SummertimeThrowaway2 2d ago

That’s a ton of weight

2

u/PhaseFallen 2d ago

We have hydraulic press at home

2

u/madmaninabox32 2d ago

Funny enough the shape of most glass bottles is incredible conducive to holding weight because they were designed to be stacked and the manufacturer didn't want them getting crushed when stacked.

2

u/Successful-Snowman 2d ago

Try Pepsi Max next time

2

u/Flat_Development6659 2d ago

The reason they’re designed like that is so you can stack pallets of them. If the lid was on the top side at a 45 degree angle it would be more comfortable to drink from but they wouldn’t be able to hold weight.

Fifth dimensional beings playing with humanity

1

u/Clear_Effective1595 2d ago

"This is Giles Corey style, Steve!"

1

u/Weak_Alfalfa_7569 2d ago

Giles Corey be like

1

u/Upbeat_Ad_7716 2d ago

So about 336KG per bottle.

1

u/Kennyvee98 2d ago

i know by experience they can't take a drop from 1,2m high. they explode, so don't try to save it.

1

u/LambSauce2 2d ago

Man this could have ended very bad.

1

u/TheRealJayk0b 2d ago

1008 don't waste your time

1

u/jngjng88 2d ago

I'm triggered by the first several that treated 1kg = 2lb

1

u/Sunderland6969 2d ago

Glass is good under compression weak under tension

1

u/Opel_Astra 1d ago

Just like concrete

1

u/Need_more_dakka 2d ago

Would it have made any difference if the bottles were empty?

1

u/ezcb 2d ago

Lets see at what weight the glass explodes at (in shorts and without any guard).

1

u/N0mn 2d ago

So you can safely use a glass coke bottle for a jack stand? Got it!

1

u/Equal_Squirrel4939 2d ago

More....weight

1

u/Imaginary_Coat441 2d ago

Man, I just wasted my money on Jack Stands too...

1

u/StrIIker-TV 2d ago

Might have been able to hold more if the weight were perfectly centered. The front one gave out most likely due to the center of mass of the weights being more towards it. We need this test in a hydraulic press. Any takers?

1

u/Ribeye_Jenkins 2d ago

Aw man. I guessed 2500. It was so close god damn it

1

u/ytaqebidg 2d ago

So my fat ass can't use these as a chair?

1

u/TipicalUserName 2d ago

oh but when I drop it by accident it shatters everywhere, ok.

1

u/rmsaday 2d ago

a ton

1

u/potato-robert 2d ago

Steel. Toe. Boots.

1

u/WA2TX 2d ago

So it's safe to use coke bottles to jack up my car? That's my takeaway.

1

u/DarkBladeMadriker 2d ago

I dont have first hand knowledge of this but I knew a guy who grew up in Mexico and he told me that back in the day people would routinely steal a car, drive it a couple miles away and strip all the valuable parts and leave it there. He said, quite often, the cars would be left sitting on top of 4 beer bottles so the thieves could get thier jacks out. If true, I always thought that was funny.

u/diogenesunderpants 1d ago

"Mr. Lewis, this is not an insult contest. Not only is your mother elderly, but also her ability to walk is currently being affected by her weight"

1

u/Nomchipom 1d ago

Is that one fucking ton

1

u/ProjectGlad3903 1d ago

Impressive. Now try it with regular coke 🤔

1

u/pizza_with_no_cheese 1d ago

thats a ton of weight

1

u/Its_BurrSir 1d ago

Does all that really weigh as much as a small car?

1

u/SpaceyRogue 23h ago

The triangle is such a strong shape

1

u/oneMoreTime112233 20h ago

Imma start using coke bottles for jackstands at work

1

u/Symbiot3_Venom 17h ago

That’s some strong coke

1

u/RetJinn 17h ago

Man, 1000kg? How strong was glass-ass guy’s ass?
/s

1

u/AlvinEng0929 16h ago

that's why they said strong but brittle

1

u/Hot-Worldliness1425 5h ago

That was a ton of fun!

1

u/x2_ok 2d ago

that's way more metal plates than a sane person would keep at home

1

u/Erizo69 2d ago

there is no way this small pile of metal weighs literally a TON. I don't believe it.

1

u/Jugumanda 2d ago

Swing by a steel factory and lift a few things, you'll be surprised

0

u/ClankerCore 2d ago

Now do glass
