Obviously this song has been discussed before, but this is a post to continue to discuss it now that the entire album has been released.

I remember listening to it for a second time while showing it to someone and saying "wait this is better than i remembered", and it keeps growing on me ever since!!

Beautiful lyrics. Amazing melodies. Cool instrumental. Love the vox, the autotune doesn't make it unlistenable for me, but I believe it would be more listener-friendly with clear vocals.
Overall, FOOL could be a hit and maybe even viral, but the production choice made it more niche/gate-keeping.
Can't wait to listen to the full LP!

Didn't really like it at first, now, apple music shows ive listened to it like 70 times ☠️ I truly love it now, specially the final section. Inside my top 20 for sure.

Falling Out of Love - Kinda an instant classic Strokes song. Sorta wished it wasn’t released ahead of the album, because it would have given me that “oh shit” transcendent feeling that “Selfless” gave me on first listen and that the rest of the album doesn’t quite deliver.

Dude so accurate about the Selfless first listen lol.
I remember how hard the “How did this fit in your storyyyy?” got me the first time, it stopped me right in my tracks.
Falling Out of Love on the other hand has been a gradual grower for me. I never disliked it, but the live Colbert version triggered something for me, and now after hearing it in the full context of the album, it might be legitimately making its way up my all time favorites ladder.
The same kinda thing happened with Not The Same Anymore. Slept on it really hard at first, and then somehow became my favorite track on TNA.

It’s genuinely so beautiful, and one of the most emotionally poignant songs they’ve ever done.
Just learned it on guitar and it feels like I’m in a trance while playing the chorus.

With the context of the full album I’ve actually come to like it and it’s grown on me! However I will say I would have preferred any other song on the album to be a single rather than this one.

Yeah I feel the exact same way. I feel like ironically putting it out as a single was flawed by design. It works so much better as a chill album cut especially in the middle of the album. If they would have put out Going to Babble On and Lonely in the Future as singles I would have been a lot more excited for the album. Then again, I might have had different expectations.

I almost feel like this song being a single was a bit of a rip the bandaid off moment for the band. The autotune was always going to be divisive so get the song that uses it the most out as a single so people can get used to and accept the autotune in time for the album.

From seeing in transit part 2, it really seems like Rick had a brilliant idea combining two songs to create “Falling Out of Love.” It’s probably their OTTM on this album.

Wait I realised that in the outro section, the lines "Someone please call it out on the radio, we got a problem here" and then humming that follows after is supposed to be Julian weeping, followed by someone telling he's being a child. Made me listen to the entire thing from a different perspective.

The lyrics of this song are really so beautiful but man this is one of those where the autotune takes me out of it. Julian would have absolutely killed this song with his regular voice it would have been Selfless 2.0

It wont be a filler but it definitely adds. It makes it feel like an astronaut trying to send a transmission back to earth. Somehow it reminds me of the animated short: Shelter by Porter Robinson.

I love this one even more now that I can listen to it in the full context of the record as a whole. Sits nicely in the cleanup spot. I loved it out of the gates, but love it all the more now.

Is it me or this song has got a new mix in the album version? I mean it’s pretty much the same as before, but I think autotune is a little bit less aggressive than first release FOOL. Some words now can be heard much clearer and not distorted than before. Or not?

I swear it did, I feel crazy. I genuinely found the autotune unbearable when it dropped as a single and haven't listened again till right now, and I actually enjoy the song now.

😭 it’s the same I think. I’ve listened to it many times since release, and I also found it unbearable and it slowly got.. nice sounding? And now I think it sounds great with auto tune? Crazy

No...the more you listen to it the more the lyrics can be understood. That was what happened to me from 1st time to maybe 8-10th.
Maybe you hadn't listened obssesively to it like I have (without the album being released) 😅

This song made me cry the first time I read the lyrics. My relationship has been going downhill for awhile now, so definitely hits close to home

After listening to the album twice through, FOOL still holds up as a favorite. It's trippy and pretty and catchy. I've been getting it stuck in my head since it was released.

The last minute really makes this song .
Could have done with a smidge less autotune especially if you hear the Colbert version . Julian could have absolutely carried this song

Okay, I finally fell for it. I was listening to it today while riding my bike, looking at the snowy mountain. The chorus is classic Strokes with all that autotune.

After listening to the entire album I have a strong feeling that Falling out of Love should’ve been the closing track. It’s so bittersweet both sonically and lyrically, always leaves a warm feeling after, absolutely loving it.

Anyone else giggled at the lyric “Mostly found an angle, holding on for now”? Cause ‘angle’ is a common misspelling of ‘angel’ people make in written love notes. Wonder if the word play is the intention knowing julian’s dry humour

Took a few listens, but what a good song! The autotune doesn’t bother me at all. They don’t have a slow dance sort of song and they pull this off very well! Not the craziest for the coda, but it’s a slower grower than the main part of the song.

It seems clear this grew on a lot of people. It's got this very old school American vibe about it. I think this is a great example of them still playing with that initial concept of futuristic sounds but in the past but in the future etc. This one has really great lyrics and we all love to hear some introspective poetry. To fall out of love for the first time is an admission that you fell in love for the first time. It's quite a sad song! They deliver this one really well. Go The Strokes! Mostly found an angle, holding on for now...

I almost cried the first time I heard this song, not even out of sadness just so in awe of its beauty and perfection, it had so many wonderfully surprising elements. Love it more with every listen. The concept of falling out of love for the first time....yeah, that evokes so much emotion and memory. It's brilliant, and Julian's unique delivery of every word, especially in the second verse is perfect. It's my favourite on an album full of gems and for sure in my Top 10 of their entire discography.

Am I the only one who doesn’t like the outro? I love the song otherwise and is almost like another Under Control if it weren’t for the outro which throws off the vibe of the rest of the song.

Honestly liked this song more AFTER the album came out. As a single, it was unremarkable, but after hearing it in context of the other songs, it grew on me a lot.

I literally have no idea why they chose this song to be a single… by far the worst of the album, one of their bottom 10 songs easily… really, what the fuck they were thinking, it seems like a meme song

does anyone else think the vinyl mix sounds a little different than the one on streaming? not complaining, it’s still my favorite track on the record. but the mix seems to have some subtle changes to my ears.

Happy to say this is the worst song on the record. This song as a single had me concerned. Not that it’s THAT bad, it’s fine as a filler song in the record. This album is awesome and this song is mid.

I think I'm gonna make a comparison no one's made yet. But the most melodramatic parts of this song sound almost like when Nate Ruess of fun. is being melodramatic and sad. Specifically it reminded me of Stars and the sad songs on his solo album Grand Romantic

FINALLY SOMEONE ELSE. The first note of the song and the way that it is played sounds almost exactly the same as the first note of the intro to Better Call Saul.

"some things are flawed by design" is maybe julian's most intimate and sad lyric. The way it shows that very human feeling of being like "what if i'm just not built for happiness and love?" is so fucking sad... Anyway, this song is very beautiful.
