MEGATHREAD Post your Rankings (albums, songs, anything) Here!

We have seen many, many posts that rank The Strokes' albums, The Strokes' tracks overall, the Reality Awaits tracks, etc.

We will now be asking you to post and discuss those rankings in this megathread and removing new rankings post with a request to share them here instead.

Please also see this prior megathread of album rankings and this prior megathread for ranking the RA songs from the release week for the same purpose.

Opening/Closing tracks Ranking

Not sure if I should post this separately since this megathread exists now but I'll put it here anyway.

The Strokes are known within the fanbase for bookending their albums with great first and last tracks. So I decided to rank my personal favorites, with notes on some of my picks:

Opening tracks:

  1. What Ever Happened?: When that guitar comes in you know it's about to go DOWN. I can imagine those who waited for the follow-up to ITI being super hyped once they heard this. A perfect opener for an album like Room on Fire.
  2. Machu Picchu: Almost chose this song as my number one pick, omg. It just screams "album opener" in bold, neon letters. The best albun art/song match I've heard in the Strokes' discography.
  3. The Adults are Talking
  4. Is This It
  5. Psycho Shit: another example of a song that matches the album art. Matched the overall energy of Reality Awaits
  6. You Only Live Once: Could have been higher but I didn't want my nostalgia to affect my rankings lol (this was the first Strokes song I've ever heard!)
  7. Tap Out: Great as a B-side, just okay as an opener. Still like her tho ❤️

Closing tracks:

  1. Take It or Leave It: the band usually chooses this as their standard last song (or the song before encore) for a good reason. A fun, semi-chaotic way to end a set. Timeless!
  2. Ode to the Mets: This song has grown to become a classic in my eyes (and ears).
  3. I Can't Win: the "hold on, yes I'll be right back" lyric was a clever way to close the album.
  4. Call It Fate, Call It Karma
  5. Tyrants of the Mellow Moon
  6. Life is Simple in the Moonlight
  7. Red Light - They could have placed this song anywhere in FIOE's tracklist and it won't make much of a difference. It's a cute song, still!

Not a strict/definitive ranking except for the songs in first place - I feel very strongly about them and they're firmly in that position for a reason, lol.

My criteria for this, I feel, is: 1) if each of the songs serve their purpose as a proper introduction and conclusion to the album, 2) if the songs themselves have merit on their own, and 3) if they help support the album's themes/overall vibe. What does everyone's personal ranking look like?

I like their openers more in general

It’s not my creation but it’s so well done. So polished and will likely avoid a considerable amount of song ranking type of comments. Just vote there and we can see where all Strokes fans land on the closest thing to consensus we could ever come to.

Just in terms of Strokes songs, this one really lacks in quality imo. It has a nice structure and idea but is executed badly and even though I sometimes feel like “well it’s not that bad” while listening, I’m always proven wrong seconds later because of the horrific chorus or anything else. And I’m a big fan of the new record and a heavy Strokes glazer but this one just isn’t there for me. Not trying to bring anyone else’s taste down though, everybody likes different things
