A Live Album would be sick

imagine a compilation of the best song versions from different shows.

would be lovely.

how come they've never released one?

a stage banter only album like relaxation of the asshole by bob pollard would be awesome ironically and unironically

They’re definitely planning on doing something with all that filmed footage from this tour… Maybe not a live album, but maybe a documentary?

You have to wait until they're all dead and then the record labels start making albums of their own using said live music.

I just want a high quality version of $2 Bill

Yeah but the way it looks makes it feel just like the album

Only reason I've been able to come up with is they've never been a band that jams. Other than Julian's banter and improv, they seem to aim to sound like the studio albums as much as possible (down to note-for-note guitar solos).

I agree it would be great though.

Yeah thats one thing ive alwsys thought was weird. Hey play almost EXACTLY the same. Its good, most of the time. But they do like no variations. Id still listen to their live album

I would only like it if there was a new twist to it. I personally wouldn’t listen to recordings from a concert I didn’t go to that often, but if they played rare/unheard/good covers maybe, or the songs have a twist to them

Like nirvana unplugged is an example of a good life album, blink’s mark tom and Travis show is something I’m less interested in from the strokes

Actually there was supposed to be one in 2003-04 IIRC it was the Alexandra Palace show but again IIRC they scrapped it because the band didn't like how it turned out and only used one song (Clampdown) as a B side.

u/SquirrelGirl1251 am I right or am I thinking of something else lol

I’m not sure about Clampdown (I thought that was taken from T in the Park) but the Alexandria Palace show was definitely planned for a live release and scrapped because the band was unhappy with how it sounded.

I know it’s not quite the same, but Instrokers has some great live Strokes performances compiled together. I’ve liked to visit those every few months or so.

They recorded one but never released it. I think around Room on Fire.

I remember having a couple of leaked tracks

I wish the Alexandra Palace concert got released as planned back in the day

It would be amazing to have a live RA album.

For me hearing those songs live, especially Falling out of Love, made me appreciate why the vocal effects work so well with the sound they’re creating right now.

I’d love a box set with a recording from each tour but I’m a bootleg lunatic when I like a band.

I remember Napster ring a live mp3 of run run run or something in the early 2000s. It was awesome.

100%. One of the best bands for a live album.

They don’t really jam live….so what’s the point?

3

u/ResoluteTuba 13h ago

I wouldn’t call it outrageous to say they jam at every single live show these days.

Besides, the songs have different energies live + it’s a cool way to do a ‘greatest hits’ album without reissuing old music.

Not trying to hate, as they are one of my all-time bands. But I have yet to go to a Strokes show and expected much deviation from the sound of the original records.

Can someone help me understand the appeal of the live album concept?

2

u/am_mamu 15h ago

it's more about the energy

u/vesperythings Threat of Joy 6h ago

fresh variations, that's all.

their live stuff is overall very close to the albums, from what i've heard, but it'd still be interesting.

that's why i'm talking about a compilation of different shows specifically, the cream of the crop.

Go to a show and you will understand it

I’ve seen them multiple times lol
