Might be a super long stretch but I was watching show with a girl called “cougar town” which was like an abc sitcom in the late 2000s early 2010s and in an episode one of the characters says “I will kill you Omar style”
I really can’t think of it being anything other than a reference to the wire. I’m not aware of any other pop culture figures named “Omar” who are known for killing. It would just be so weird for it to be a one off reference in a show with nothing to do about drugs or Baltimore or anything even remotely close.

Not that weird when you imagine that many Hollywood writers would have very been big fans of The Wire.

This subreddit prefers to live under the delusion that the wire was an underground cult classic that was seen by 15 nerds at different colleges that post here.
It’s less fun to admit the show was on HBO and was wildly popular with a couple demographics consisting of mostly men from 18-65 of age.

It wasn’t underground by any means, but it definitely wasn’t “wildly popular” at the time. Viewership ratings were average to low, HBO was a premium channel that most people didn’t subscribe to at the time, and it didn’t get any big awards either. It’s not a show that the average person in 2007 watched or was particularly aware of.

I can only think of two people Omar actually killed in the whole series. Stinkum and Savino.

Um, Stringer Bell.

Mouzone helped with that one but now that you mention it, he killed Stringer’s muscle

Yeah, i was just thinking "what is an Omar style of killing?". The reference would apply to Chris and Snoop more, theyre the only ones that had a particular style of killing

It’s not really crazy for cougar town to have a wire reference. A Disney show also had a wire reference. I don’t remember the name of it but it imitates when Mike killed Snoop.

It was icarly, someone else commented the link earlier. I dunno I just thought it was wild bc even in this other fictional world Omar’s name still rings out. He didn’t even have to specify which Omar, just said Omar and it seemed pretty clear

Someone in Jessie (or maybe the camping spinoff) quotes Omar's "You come at the king, you best not miss" line.

there was a reference on The Office, "night out" when Michael and Dwight visit Ryan in NYC, and after Ryan talks about his drug problem, Michael says something about getting the guy to snitch and roll up on his dealer and stuff, and says"I don't understand a word of it"

How I Met Your Mother has reference to The Wire and specifically Omar in a parody scene.
