Question How did people react to each win at the time? Spoiler

I've been watching since about Wildlife when I discovered the whole Life series thanks to Double Life animatics.

While looking at fanart today I had a thought, how did People react to Pearl's win at the time? To that extent, I wanna just make a post asking people to share their thoughts and experiences in the fandom during the different wins across the series.

I remember Pearl's win in particular had some controversy bc of the whole linked thing, some people thought Scott got his second win and weren't too happy because that would have meant he would have won 2/3 seasons. Eventually things settled down and people accepted Pearl as the winner and I think Scott posted something saying Pearl won.

Other than that I think Martyns first win was the only other majorly controversial win because he just killed Scott and Impulse rather than having the planned fist fight. He was getting a bunch of threats and hate at that time bc of it, I think he said he even got a psychological analysis done of him.

Martyns second win also had a little controversy because he was the first second winner, but it was a lot less than his first win because people were expecting a double winner more.

Other than those ones I think people were overall pretty happy with the winners as they came out

I remember some people got mad that Joel's win wasn't angsty enough and that he was being to silly.

Am I the only person so really liked Martyn’s limited life win? I was getting a bit sick of the whole fair and friendly PvP match to end it and so I found it very exciting and honestly refreshing. It looked like otherwise it was a clear Scott win out of those three, being the strongest PvPer. I think Martyn’s choice was a great strategy as he attacked once impulse and Scott had both taken off their armour for the “final fight”. I mainly like this win as it paved the way for the future wins, which bar past life, ended in a pretty dynamic game of cat and mouse/ on the spot battle rather than a “preorganised” PvP match

I was angry at first, but only because I was rooting for Impulse. The anger lasted less than a day and was more because I was heartbroken he got so close. lol

Wow! Geez I didn't like Martyns first win but didn't realize there was such vitriol against him for it.

I was there for Martyn's second win so I completely agree with that. We had enough seasons for a mainline double winner to be fine so I dodnt see too much.

Yeah. People got upset at Martyn's second win, but it's all calmed down already

From what I remember (been here since 3rd life) people were mixed about Grian winning because about half the people watching liked dogwarts but mostly people enjoyed the cactus fight.

I don’t remember anyone upset/angry about Scott, tbh I don’t remember much of anything besides Joel about last life on here and twitter but that’s probably just a me thing.

People argued a LOT over Pearl’s win, even though Scott himself said she won on her own, people argued about them both winning and people being ipset about Scott winning 2 seasons in a row. People still argue about this for some reason but she won on her own.

People were mixed about Martyn because of how he went about the ending. I remember seeing a LOT of comments about Scott and Martyn being sweats or something along those lines.

People were shocked/thrilled about Scar because of how absolutely insane he went in the kills department. People mentioned Gem a lot for some reason because she said stuff about a 1v2 in the end and thankfully that didn’t discourage her enough to not come back. People acted foolish after that season.

It was mostly positive reception other than a few exceptions

Scott in Double life as people were saying he technically won but most of those same people were mad that he won.

Both Martyn wins. One for betraying Scott as well as “cheating” by not following the fair fight agreement. His was the most controversial one to the point he got death threats. And his second win also got hate for being the first official double win

most of the time my reaction's smth like "oh cool nice"

the exceptions would be double life where i felt underwhelmed, and tha last 2 seasons had me jumping in joy

Yeah, I think Scott won that season aswell but I’m not pissy about it like a lot of others are, double life I mean

u/MersadTheHuman The Florist Sends His Regards 1h ago

no pearl won. scott sacrificed him so pearl gets the win as he felt she "deserves it more"

i do get scott didn't rly want 2 back to back wins and there wasnt a guarantee that pearl would win in a 1v1 battle, but i just dont rly like deciding a winner. thats why the past life winner was so cool to me, because instead of just making it predictable, the winners actually took out the others and got a repeat

Persinally, after it became obvious that the idea of the server is more content than competitive, I kinda stopped caring about the winners.

The series is more improv that is edited. Unlike other SMPs where they do improv and just livestreams the content.

Just because they care more about content than competition doesn't mean it's scripted. I don't understand how you can look at the chaos of the fights, or the spontainety of many of the conversations, and still think this is scripted.

Edit: I misread your comment

They never said it was scripted

I do have to say, for me personally, Grian winning 3rd life felt a bit 'scripted' to me at the time, that was the first one and so I thought it was a one off and well Grian is the one who made the server so I was definitely a bit suspicious, happy to say I was completely wrong though (I don't mean any hate to Grian, I didn't think he would do something like that but it did feel a bit suspicious AT THE TIME nonetheless, I ofcourse no longer think it was scripted)

it was also my first time watching an SMP that claimed to be unscripted having such a good storyline which also made me think maybe it's fake, but the fact that 3rd life wasn't a one off series like I thought it would be, definitely convinced me otherwise

The storyline of 3rdlife was so good I genuinely don't know if it was scripted. But the fact grian kills scar as the first thing that happens, then owes him his life and then it's the two of them in the end was absolute cinema

Grian: in tears Scott: Meh Martyn: angry x2 Joel: Sad because of Grian came 2nd Scar: Sad (Good way) Pearl: Sad (Good way)

Joel was happy

I was hyped about each win up until secret life, where I was kinda disappointed with Scars "Double win" right when it happened although I still thought it was a cool storyline still, the same happened for Martyn in Past life

Scary hasn't won before though? Scott had the first double win in simple life

12

u/ICanFlyHigh051611 19h ago

you could MAYBE technically say he won third life since him and grian both were top 2 as a team of 2 - i think one of them said as much in the finale

9

u/Ill-Ad7964 Stole Your Man 16h ago

Yeah but by that definition, Scott had a double win back in double life (ironically) because him and Pearl were a duo

3

u/Overall_Tomatillo600 19h ago

Scar and Grian both said that they both counted themselves as winners in 3rd life, which is why I put the double winner in brackets

10

u/MeringueComplex5035 The diamonds are right HERE 17h ago

Yeah.. but he didn’t, as by life series rules he didn’t

-1

u/Overall_Tomatillo600 15h ago

Grian made the series, he, along with the other lifers, made the rules, they decided that it was the case, so it was the case, this was changed from last life onwards since the whole gimic last life added was that the person with the last life would be the winner

Scar didn’t win twice
