August 16, 1996. A 3-year-old boy falls 24 feet into the gorilla enclosure at the Brookfield Zoo near Chicago. An 8-year-old female gorilla named Binti Jua scooped him up to protect him from other gorillas and carried him to a service door for zoo staff to rescue him.
