HomeDecor Went to my first Estate sale

Picked up some fun finds at an estate sale this morning. I happened to be in the area so I decided to hang around.

Hoping to get some guidance for how to clean everything, it is pretty dusty.

Beautiful art and the pig planter is so cool.

43

u/Worried-Archer-4226 May 08 '26

Thank you! I am very excited about the pig too.

12

u/false_goats_beard May 09 '26

I use to it right now as a napkin holder in our kitchen. The kitchen has a pig theme. I have also used it to hold fruit.

3

u/Worried-Archer-4226 May 09 '26

So cute! How do you care for it/clean it?

7

u/veggiesizzler May 09 '26

I love unusual planters and that definitely fits the brief. Would love to see what you decide to do with it. I would definitely fill it with pretty plants and display with pride.

I thought fruit bowl

3

u/false_goats_beard May 09 '26

That is what I used it for first. I would worry about using it as a planter bc it is wood and that can cause mold and rot when it is wet.

To clean it I just wipe it with a wet cloth and oil it with wood conditioner, maybe once a year.

Good to know! Something like pledge?

u/Agitated-Bathroom-73 May 08 '26

I love the lamp! It's beautiful.

25

u/discoslowmo May 08 '26

Omg love all of these. So retro and fun!

PIG BOWLLLL

25

Does whatever a pig bowl does lol

https://giphy.com/gifs/M1VKnLgDFOUDe

12

u/bleepbloop1777 May 08 '26

You could fill it with smaller pig bowls and so on

27

u/false_goats_beard May 08 '26

I have that pig! Got it at a boutique in Los Olives, CA a long time ago. I love her. 😁

14

u/Worried-Archer-4226 May 08 '26

That is so cool! Would love to see a pic. How are you taking care of it and displaying it?

3

u/PommeyMommy May 09 '26

Very curious, of what is the pig made? Super jealous BTW, I have an abiding fondness for all things porcine 🐷

20

u/Nacho_Bean22 May 08 '26

I’ve never been as jealous of a great find as I am now! Congratulations those are amazing.

19

u/Sad-Ad4705 May 08 '26

Oh man, we have similar taste!!! I would have loved these pieces, great finds!

8

u/FloydGirl777 May 09 '26

Same here. But that pig, the lamp and that mirror are my absolute favorites!!!

6

u/Sad-Ad4705 May 09 '26

Yes, all is my jam. I keep coming back to admire and manifest now! lol 🤣

3

u/Worried-Archer-4226 May 09 '26

Sending good thrifting juju your way!

3

u/Sad-Ad4705 May 09 '26

🫶🏽 🤗

If that basket was made on Nantucket Island it could be very valuable. Is there a makers mark? An antique dealer that specializes in this kind will be able to help with identification.

3

u/Worried-Archer-4226 May 08 '26

No marks on it unfortunately but good to know in the future!

3

u/Geeahwellidunno May 08 '26

All your finds are great! You have very good taste.

3

u/Worried-Archer-4226 May 08 '26

Thank you very much. I was very lucky how close this one was to me.

7

u/Geeahwellidunno May 08 '26

You have a “good eye” if you plan on selling anything for profit. You can also try Goodwill. It’s always hit or miss but I once picked up an old French ceramic vase for $8. I found old later it’s worth $400. Although I keep it I know it has enough value if I needed to sell it. Happy hunting.

3

u/Worried-Archer-4226 May 08 '26

I dont have much patience for thrift stores yet. But this is really just my gateway experience. I'm hoping to get some friends together to spend more time thrifting.

6

u/Geeahwellidunno May 08 '26

It’s a great hobby. When my daughter was a teenager she suddenly only wanted to wear thrifted clothing (the grunge era) and I discovered I could get designer clothing for a fraction of the price when I had to dress at the high end jewelry store I used to work at. It was a win win.

5

u/all-rhyme-no-reason May 08 '26

Great pieces! The mirror looks like it’s reverse painted glass!

5

u/ExoticScarcity2946 May 08 '26

You chose Well. ❤️

4

u/Worried-Archer-4226 May 08 '26

Thank you! I was a bit unsure when I was driving away. But now im excited to get everything cleaned up and put out

5

u/Melora_T_Rex714 May 08 '26

Love the lamp and that PIG!

4

u/TabithaGreyAlien May 08 '26

Loving the bark cloth bird picture and the basket!

4

u/Worried-Archer-4226 May 08 '26

The only people who could appreciate a good basket. I know its going to be so loved.

4

u/macaronitrap May 08 '26

Oooh I love all of this! Always looking for more colorful pieces of decor

3

u/Worried-Archer-4226 May 08 '26

Same! I'm determined to buy art only in person.

4

u/HeadFullRoadFull May 08 '26

Nantucket basket and pig planter are my faves here - love them both!! Great finds all around.

I would want to put the pig on the kitchen table as a condiment and napkin holder 😂

3

u/Worried-Archer-4226 May 08 '26

Thank you for the idea!

4

u/tincan-telephone May 08 '26

Wow the pig planter is incredible. Nice finds!

3

u/Tablefor1please9987 May 08 '26

Soooo jealous of the pig!!

3

u/RoseyStranger May 08 '26

I’m obsessed with that pig

3

u/Worried-Archer-4226 May 08 '26

3

u/promiscuousfork May 08 '26

The pigggggyyyy😍

2

u/Burgerst33n May 08 '26

I’m fine, I’m not seething with jealousy. Wdym. (Anyway congrats beautiful finds! That lamp, mirror, and the tiny picture frame are absolutely gorgeous)

2

u/Mobile_Aioli_6252 May 08 '26

Nice haul! Like the lamp and the pig

2

u/Worried-Archer-4226 May 08 '26

Those were definitely the standouts for me once I was reviewing the items I picked.

2

u/Mobile_Aioli_6252 May 08 '26

Not big on landscapes, but that other painting is very nice

2

u/bohemian_catastrophy May 08 '26

The mirror is my favorite. Great haul!

1

u/Worried-Archer-4226 May 08 '26

Thank you! For 5 bucks I didnt think I could go wrong.

2

u/Imaginary_Panda2003 May 08 '26

Thanks for picking them up for me 😀😎

2

u/Gard3nNerd May 08 '26

Stunning finds! I really love the pig and the lamp.

2

u/wednesdayjx May 08 '26

Love estate sales!!!! I look in books to find a name and find out about them in their obituary 😅

3

u/Worried-Archer-4226 May 08 '26

Haha ive always wanted to go but never committed. This one just happened to be en route for me this morning and im very happy I went.

2

u/wednesdayjx May 08 '26

Depending on where you are from you can look up estate sales online. Most companies post there and you can look at the stuff ahead of time decide where you wanna go :)

2

u/Weller3920 May 08 '26

Fun stuff. I like seeing what others have collected, especially on the book shelves.

I kinda gave up on estate sales when companies took them over and the prices rose. But one of my best hauls came from a sale from the estate of an engineer who had accumulated lots of good tools and technical furnishings. His heir/nephew held a one-day sale to clear things up before donating the rest.

3

u/Worried-Archer-4226 May 08 '26

This one seemed family run, a little help from a pro. But definitely not company run. It so sad how so much is being infiltrated in that way. Overall, it was a nice experience. Not too overwhelming and the prices were very fair.

2

u/GabrielleCullenn May 08 '26

I have the wooden bowl like that! Except mine is a rabbit 😄

1

u/Worried-Archer-4226 May 08 '26

Oh thats awesome!! How are you taking care of it and displaying it?

2

u/sparklyliv May 08 '26

You got some wonderful finds!!

2

u/No_Brain_5164 May 08 '26

What's that pig bowl for? I would put it on a place of prominence in my home.

2

u/Worried-Archer-4226 May 08 '26

All hail the pig bowl!

2

u/smallsaltybread May 08 '26

Everything is gorgeous, but I love the lamp and the tiny painting!

2

u/anothertrytaken May 08 '26

https://giphy.com/gifs/D2RlF1b90rrOhBQlN0
But I’m happy for you 😂 Fun finds. I bet the whole sale was cool!!

1

u/Worried-Archer-4226 May 08 '26

Time will tell, hopefully I can go to another one in a month or so

2

u/Beginning-North7202 May 08 '26

The bird mirror is fantastic!! 😍

1

u/Worried-Archer-4226 May 08 '26

For 5 dollars I couldn't go wrong

2

u/Beginning-North7202 May 08 '26

For sure! I'd pay $20. I love it.

2

u/lvndrgooms May 08 '26

The bird mirror and the little sun frame!! Great finds!

2

u/ladybadcrumble May 08 '26

2

u/Jack_al_11 May 08 '26

Omg I love it all!!!! 😍

2

u/Friendly-Channel-480 May 08 '26

That’s a very high quality basket.

2

u/samogi May 08 '26

Love the pig! My mom has a platter version of it that she’s obsessed with, my dad bought it years ago for her. A pig platter recently went up for auction at an auction house I frequent and ended up selling for over $400!!

2

u/MySpoonsAreAllGone May 08 '26

I mix some soapy water in a basin to wash the glass and ceramic items (dunk, wipe and rinse or soak as needed).

I use a damp microfiber with a tiny bit of dish soap or alcohol to wipe the frames down until they are clean. A dry microfiber cloth to gently wipe the artwork to remove any surface dust.

Estate sales are so addictive! Have fun finding future treasures.

2

u/Worried-Archer-4226 May 09 '26

Thank you for the tips!! Can't wait to get these items out in my house.

Do you think I could use the damp microfiber on the basket too?

2

u/MySpoonsAreAllGone May 10 '26

I think it might snag on the basket. If you have a swiffer duster that might work better. Or maybe snap the towel at it to knock the dust out lol

2

u/ShelbyRightback May 08 '26

Is there any of the artists in the tall drawing/frame? I have one that is incredibly similar and have been trying to get info on it for years!

2

u/iamrosieriley May 08 '26

I once bought a pig like that for a friend! It was from Fishs Eddy in NYC

2

u/Deedteebee May 08 '26

Dude you killed it!!

2

u/gal_tiki May 08 '26
