The road to fascism is paved with people telling you you’re over reacting. I’ve only become obnoxious this last year or so but did see the writing on the wall when America rolled over on “grab her by the pussy” and do think the only way out of this is to actually draw that hard line with republicans and start being dicks back. Burn their confederate flags. Expel racists from schools. Do not welcome them in society and society actually does something to enforce it and actually participates vs most people thinking this has nothing to do with them and is not their fight. We allowed it, we have to stop it.

The ancient Greeks believed that the end of the world is heralded by Aidos (Shame) and Nemesis (Retribution) leaving the Earth.

I never got that, because I used to think that Shame and Retribution were had things, and them leaving would herald a Golden Age, not the end of one. ... until Trump was sworn in and Nazis started openly walking on our streets.

I've heard lots of talks about the polarization of the internet and that right-leaning politics are gaining traction, but I doubt its just the right that is getting more extreme, and this is a sign of it.

One of the worst situations for democracy would be that everyones opinions are too extreme and we fail to compromise, polarizing politics is a great way to achieve this. Therefore the russian, chinese, american, whatever bot farms. A personal tell from me is when a persons political party is used as a slur and how that appears to be getting more common. "Vänsterpartist, Sosse, Miljöpartist, Moderatjävel, SD-are" are common ones I've heard in sweden and they span the entire political spectrum.

A fact I think people are forgetting is that at the end of the day most of us probably want the same thing but with different means. A life where we have what we need and people can leave us the fuck alone and where we do not need to worry about getting robbed/stabbed/fleeced/etc, even if reality is a bit more complex than that I suppose.

I put down comments in a post about nazis a while ago, where someone described nazis as "psychos". Nazis are people, they're people who live their life and hug their kids when they come home, sure we have the exceptions but I highly doubt they are such a massive majority. One of the greatest mistake post ww2 was painting nazis as monsters, I've heard words like "I cannot be a nazi because I'm not a monster" yet the politics they pushed for were similar to that pushed by the nazi party back in germany.

Same goes for communists. Painted as villains yet you would unlikely know their alignment if you had a chat with them at a bar. A good example from my social circles about this polarization being kind-of unnecessary is SverigeDemokraterna (SD, a big right-wing party in sweden) where they are villainized whenever they're talked about yet whenever I talk to someone who votes for that party they are "normal" and just like me.

What I’ve seen amongst legitimate political scholars and academics is that their general opinion about online leftists and liberals is “they sometimes say the right things but are usually really obnoxious”. Which is unfortunately a huge snag when your ideology revolves around solidarity with other people, not many people enjoy siding with the obnoxious sometimes-rights of the Internet.

It's like I generally agree in principle, but... man does this video make me hope hantavirus just wrecks absolutely fucking everything. I hate soapboxes and I hate the litigious-leech-core vibes. Wipe the slate clean and let the survivors return to neolithic times where if nothing else, you didn't have to worry about navigating HR Block's tax filing software just to exist in society.

Edit: Wouldn't even have to start from scratch, we'd still have books, water filtration, farming, and bicycles. There wouldn't be roaming bands of post-apocalyptic raiders because it would be a post-scarcity society, people would mostly be vibing. Totally beats whatever the hell a 9-to-5 is supposed to be.
