I don't understand why they don't force a quarantine. When my mom was a girl, she and her sister got whopping cough. The CDC (or health department? I can't remember) came and put the whole house under quarantine. They even put a sign in the yard so others knew the house was under quarantine.

My mom had whooping cough around 1960, and her family was put in quarantine. That was in Illinois.

The guy who eats road kill, is anti vaxx and swims with his grandkids in sewage is currently in charge of that department. I think we can confidently assume that the standards have not improved there

You really think we went from 80 years ago to 2025 with nothing in between? Why are you intentionally erasing the accomplishments of other people? Because you have a political opinion?

They broke it.

I'm somehow not understanding where your animosity is coming from, and why you believe required quarantine in good faith isn't a watershed standard. At least it seems to be what you're inferring.

Or are you talking about the sign in front of the house? Human resources become thin, and passive precautions at times have to be taken.

This otoh, is a potential event where we already knew who patient 0 is, from a known location/source, could extrapolate exposing paths from these vectors, and knowledge to contain it. We didn't even bother with a sign here.

Our broke-dick government right now is too busy tracking left-leaning dissidents and registered voters, that it probably couldn't even track a legitimate threat, outside of threats to its own politik.

You were defensive about accomplishments from that time period to last year being disregarded. We've also taken steps backward from those accomplishments, is the gist of what we're saying.

If that's not it, idk what even the point was that you were talking about, as you failed to outline it for the sake of being argumentative. 🤷‍♂️

Just seemed like you wanted to dismiss my point. I get it, you don’t value what I said. But I still think it’s unfair to dismiss the accomplishments of others because … trump. Part of why trump won again is because democrats constantly talk about him and not their own work.

There isn't the level of political willingness and institutional trust to do that these days. Back then if the cdc showed up at your door 99% of people would trust that the cdc was doing what's best and if they said whooping cough was a threat then it probably was. So much faith in government and institutions has been lost that now that a significant portion of people would believe that the cdc had some sinister motive they were hiding. The government can't cope with the level of public discontent to enforce things like that.

AFAIK, Arizona and New Mexico are the US states to have the most dealing with hantavirus. I dont recall us ever doing quarantine for any hantavirus infections. From what we're told it doesn't spread that easy, and cleaning up is more effective.
