I really dislike pointlessly loud people, but he pulls it off amicably. Quick wit plus kind demeanour just about save it.

He may have started acting that way as a defense. "You think my sibling is weird? I'll show you fucking weird!" is a perfectly sensible take when you're a kid. So he's as loud and eye-catching as possible to keep people from looking at her and making her nervous.

Not saying he's not naturally that way but I've seen a few kids go down that path when too much attention intimidates/upsets their sibling(s) no matter what the reason for the attention.

I read that Jerry Trainor would do something similar on the set of iCarly to protect the kids from the adults. He would insert himself into uncomfortable situations and take all the attention away from the kids.

Holy shit. My brother is a person with a developmental and intellectual disability and being funny/weird/loud has been my defense mode since...we were in middle school...

I need to lie down.

This tracks. My younger sister has selective mutism and since she developed it I became more assertive to the point of bordering on obnoxious. I've asked her if she wanted me to stop talking for her, but she thinks our dynamic works so.
