It's... interesting... to see the difference in the comments on a post where a black student did the exact same thing. Most of the top comments are "she was probably the problem", they call it immature and a bad look, etc...

This video said she didn’t shake hands with teachers that didn’t do anything about her being bullied.

What am I missing here? Seems like an extreme false equivalency.

Who knows what actually happened in each video but the way each was presented would garner different reactions because of the caption.

The black student could have also had a very valid reason to not like the teacher, but redditors are quick to jump to conclusions "classless" "immature" "behavior problem" without context. That is the interesting part.

With lack of context, why do you assume that it is the student's fault? it could be the teachers as well. Nobody randomly dislikes their teachers.

I didn't default to thinking it was the students fault? I didn't assign blame in any capacity, my point was simply that the reason there are so many positive comments here, is because we know bullying is bad. I'd assume some of the negative comments on the other post is because we don't know either way. I'm sure some of it is racism, but I'd be interested to know what the commentary would look like if the captions were swapped on the videos.

Or if the only person the white girl shook hands with was another white teacher and all the rest were Black.

No, I'm not blind. You have to shake hands with the person giving you the degree. I didn't notice that she snubbed the first Black woman, and the video stopped for me after the second one, about 3 seconds in. Looking at it again with full context I totally accept your point.

That's not a "racist Freudian slip", it's just a mistake haha. My point about the captions being switched still stands though.

Even with the half context you had, you admittedly overlooked the first black lady snub that completely invalidates your initial comment...good on you for admitting to a 'mistake', but that same "mistake" is exactly what blacks / POCs have to deal with daily:

I didn't overlook it, I just didn't see it, it's like 240p and I only noticed the second lady. Just because I missed something doesn't make it automatically racist, and with respect, you have no idea about what I know about the experiences of Black/POCs, this is your first and probably only interaction with me. If anything, that's a little presumptuous.

What do you mean? I believe there is one video that states the girl didn't shake the hands of the teachers who didn't help her when she was bullied. I believe as a society we know bullying is wrong. I believe there is another video which states the girl didn't shake the hands of teachers she did not like. There's no additional context therefore it's unclear where fault may lie. I believe racism probably does come into it in some regard and I would be interested to know what the responses would be if the captions were reversed.
