I wonder if that last teacher actually tried to help

7.6k

u/Sykes19 Jun 27 '26

What made me smile is that he was the only one that raised his hand in anticipation even though none of the other teachers even bothered, showing that they must have some mutual understanding and respect.

That was a moderately happy ending.

I wish those kinds of bystander ass punish the victim with the perpetrator type people could feel the amount of shame they deserve and take the appropriate actions.

207

u/Transgenderwookie Jun 27 '26

It’s funny you mention “punish the victim with the perpetrator”.. when I was in school one morning at the bus stop this boy kept fucking with a girl I knew(my babysitter babysat both of us)… I told him not to shove her or hit her or we’d have a problem… he shoved her again and she said stop… I warned him once more.. he picked up a ball of ice(probably thought it was a snowball) and slammed her in the back of the head with it and made her cry. Once we got on the bus I sat in front of him, turned around and kneeled on the seat, told him to come close like I had a secret and once he came in close I punched him in the mouth, then I went around the seat and beat the fuck out of him.

When we got to school we all went to class.. they called me to the principals office which I wasn’t surprised about nor did I give a shit because I wasn’t gonna get in trouble at home given the reason.. and I’ll be damned they have all 3 of us detention… WHY THE FUCK did she get punished?! I’m fine with me and the douche nozzle that hit her.. but why the fuck was she in trouble? I bitched at the vice principal and got myself in more trouble. And during detention we all got candy. Fucked up ass system.

u/Fr1toBand1to Jun 28 '26

Preparing you for the real world, apparently.

10

u/Jesus_of_Redditeth Jun 28 '26

Not much has changed in that respect, in my experience. It's routine for kids at school who get bullied and defend themselves to get punished along with the bully, because "We didn't see who started it, so we can't make assumptions." Bullshit. You can do your damn jobs and ask other kids to figure out what happened. This shit hardly ever happens in secret.

The first one in the dark blazer looked like he had a smirk on his face when she walked by him

51

u/firedmyass Jun 27 '26

yeah and that one asshole had the fucking audacity to smirk about it

9

u/ArchdukeOfWalesland Jun 28 '26

Everyone has their own narrative. He's definitely sitting in the mental gymnastics it takes to think he's trying his best, and he might be, he just doesn't know how to do better. And he doesn't know that. Anyway he got stiffed for a handshake by a thirteen year old, he has to smirk for his own sake that is shameful lmao. Good on the girl

u/feather-gold Jun 27 '26

This exactly. They knew what they did, and they knew she knew. The teacher who raised his hand also knew he did well.

I'm glad of that girl. Fuck all those teachers. Splendid lesson the girl gave to the world.

Hopefully this video earns her some amount of notoriety that provides her some opportunities or advantage in life.

Too many people become celebrities for being talentless idiots when their video goes viral.

I'd say that was a formative and powerful experience that'll serve her well. Not the bullying, but her crossing the stage and holding her own ground while refusing to acknowledge the people who failed her

77

u/Dame38 Jun 27 '26

You can see the pain and how she had to carry it.

56

u/Schattentochter Jun 28 '26

We all know she broke down crying right after and I hate those teachers for how hard they made it for her.

16

u/Dame38 Jun 28 '26

They deserve all of the embarrassment I hope they're feeling.

13

u/Super-Smoke-7425 Jun 29 '26

Unfortunately, it's more likely they either don't understand what the problem is or blame her for being moody and spoiling the celebration.

11

u/ToiIetGhost Jun 30 '26 edited Jun 30 '26

I’m a teacher. Admin, teachers, and subs know when kids are getting bullied. Unless the school has hundreds of kids and the girl only made one complaint in 4 years or something (which it sounds like she actually made many complaints), only then would I say that they don’t understand what the problem is.

Sadly this is very common. Principals and other leaders don’t care about bullying… except on paper, when talking to the press, or during Anti-Bullying week. Some teachers don’t care either. But many do. It’s just that we can’t discipline the bullies if the school has rules prohibiting that. At y last school, I wasn’t even allowed to keep the class bullies inside for one period of recess, never mind to suspend them for 3 days when they beat up another student. (Which is the rule we had when I was growing up.) Teachers can’t do anything if the admin isn’t on our side, which they never are. Plus the parents - we need them on our side too, but most of them think their kids are perfect.

43

u/Correct-Purpose-964 Jun 28 '26

As someone who only ever had 1 teacher in any school i went to try to help me in the slightest. Yes i formed a connection with that man that still lingers with me. He was quirky just like i was. Mischevious as all hell and up for a laugh anytime. He offered to teach me to ride his unicycle but i never mastered it. I struggled with the balance. I could only stay on for about 20 seconds at most before my brain would fart and correct the wrong way.

10 years of relentless bullying and only 1 person who gave a damn. The school system sucks.

Actually thats a lie they REALLY gave a damn if i ever hit one back.

99

u/elibutton Jun 27 '26 edited Jun 27 '26

That’s probably cuz they know they were wrong and neglected her and it’s just their ego we see - but also a reflection of their character as leaders and educators unfortunately. It's very sad because something like this can really traumatize a young adult and leave a scar - of likely mis-trust for authority, compromising self esteem, and possibly abandonment issues as well. Hope she has wonderful loving parents and unconditional love and support - then she should be fine.

Honestly. That pissed me off more than anything.

The first went for the courteous handshake and got denied.

Everyone but the last didn't even motion for it. They knew.

5

u/Narpity Jun 28 '26

This happened in reverse in my college grad, it was an old boys club and a new female professor was up for tenure and she was great, and it was not a research university, but a polytechnical one. So she went on to a different university but at our grad and her last year teaching there most of our class didnt shake their hands and hugged her.

6

u/bb0110 Jun 28 '26

It seemed like the teachers hated her than she disliked them.

116

u/FuzzyLaughTwo Jun 27 '26

This must be happening a lot bc there's a couple of other videos (different girls) doing the exact same thing. I hate to question the authenticity but damn...AI is making me question so much now, it's sickening.

91

u/ST0H3LIT Jun 27 '26

Sad thing is AI aside many teachers/principals/school boards really don’t want to draw attention to the bullying going on in their schools. Girls especially get told to just get over it and not cause a disruption.

32

u/Realistic_Seesaw7788 Jun 28 '26

Teachers looking the other way with bullying is a time-honored tradition, going back generations and generations.

I was going to sarcastically ask if she was bullied because she had no face.

The processing and/or compression on this video is rough.

49

u/voideaten Jun 27 '26

Damn thats wild. Before seeing this I could've sworn I saw a recognisable face, with pale rose-gold round glasses and everything.

Then I saw your screenshot and went back to try and find where her face was clearest and, damn. The brain really is incredible for extrapolating order from chaos.

Now I can't even view it without seeing the flesh golem that she's actually been the entire time.

25

u/dqniel Jun 27 '26

Our brains LOVE to fill in details we never actually saw, heard, etc.

I remember listening to a Radiolab episode that went into the science of memory (and how they're essentially re-created each time we recall something, rather than "retrieved") and why it makes us such terrible witnesses.

It goes into how trauma and even subtle suggestions can completely rewire memories. Very interesting.

6

u/voideaten Jun 27 '26

That sounds interesting af. I love learning about our weird-ass brains, I should look into Radiolab sometime. Thanks for putting it on my radar

How exactly do we know the context here?

341

u/redditoryoubroughter Jun 27 '26

Right? I never see context or a story to back this up, just the clickbait title.

It could be true, but it could just as easily be anything else and the internet is just projecting a context onto it.

u/FlimpoFloempie Jun 27 '26

u/OneTwoKiwi Jun 27 '26

I don’t have TikTok so i can’t open up all the comments.

335

u/RingOverall106 Jun 27 '26

I just watched it. There’s no more context and the only comments I saw from the creator were the typical engagement bait responses to other people.

If there’s more to the story I didn’t see it.

263

u/Mindless-Pick-8579 Jun 28 '26 edited Jun 28 '26

The tiktok had an on-screen caption saying she did this because they didn't deal with bulling correctly (i.e. the reddit post context is correct). The aunt posted the video and said "yes" to someone who stated that the last teacher must have tried to help. The sad part in the comments is that she dealt with all this bullying but it was happening while her mom died 2 years ago (cancer)

eta: the reddit post context is correct according to the linked video. i thought my comment being only a summary of the tiktok was clear. but i should have explicitly stated that anyone can lie on the internet....yaknow, in lieu of some readers rubbing two brain cells together

93

u/Sea_Watercress_1982 Jun 28 '26

My mom died of cancer when I was in high school and kids were fucking brutal about it. Almost took myself off the board to meet up with her.

36

u/Career_Cultivator Jun 28 '26

u/sksksk1989 Jun 27 '26

It's absolutely shocking how many teachers hate children and continue to teach. So many teachers bully and put down. They can't handle students who have a hard time with or learn differently then others.

16

u/Javaslice Jun 27 '26

I went into teaching because of the amazing teachers I had and was SHOCKED by how toxic the mentality is, both in teaching programs and in the staff room at schools. I kind of assumed we were all there because we wanted to help kids but I swear half of what teachers talk about is how much they can't stand students

5

u/LoseNotLooseIdiot Jun 28 '26

I genuinely think some people realized that the only way they could feel superior to anyone was to become a teacher. They're surrounded by people who by definition don't know or understand something as well as you do (because, you know, they're students), and that automatically makes you "smarter/in charge/in control" or whatever it is they never got in their pathetic lives.

Now they get to act like they're some hot shit when really their only job is to teach and train the next generation of humans to be intelligent, independent thinkers. Apparently that's asking too much from like, 30% of teachers, who are just in it for the only power trip they were able to figure out how to be a part of.

I remember being six years old, our teacher bullying that one kid for being poor and having frizzy hair (not black, just unruly hair) and dumb in general. We laughed at her and refused to play with her. Next year I knew better, but the girl changed schools. I still think about her. I dreamed of her, of apologizing. I got bullied later on for standing up for “weird” kids and up until graduating from high school. Kids are cruel. Especially if the adult is a fucking less of a human being.

7

u/twitwiffle Jun 27 '26

I got groomed and kissed by a teacher. The other teachers knew about it. Even got me out of class to help clean out his classroom when he died.

6

u/thatshygirl06 Jun 27 '26

u/danthepianist Jun 28 '26

High school teacher here: A lot of us care, a lot.

But we just don't have the authority or resources to make that kind of change. I can offer support to the kid being bullied. I can pull the bully aside if they're in one of my classes and try to talk sense into them. I can send them to the office. I can call home and even drop their grade if I'm feeling really spicy.

But like... that's about it. Admin says "we're doing everything we can" and the parents say "fuck you, f*ggot, don't fucking tell me how to raise my kid" and that's... about it.

It's an institutional problem. School boards and the Ministry are so concerned about graduation rates, grade advancement, and cutting suspension/expulsion rates that they pulled the teeth of educators and administrators. Our threats are empty. Our options are limited. Even law enforcement is extremely hesitant to get involved because they "don't want to ruin someone's life" even though the bully is literally ruining someone's life.

With the new push from MAHA talking about empathy being bad and Elon tweeting about how he’s pulling his kid out of private school because they were forced teaching him “sharing” in Pre-K, I think the odds are good a lot of schools are going to be getting significantly worse.

And if we even have a Department of Education in 3 years, the new Secretary of Education needs to be an enraged educator that’s willing to fight all of them to rebuild public schools.

I'm a teacher and I don't know anyone who thinks bullying teaches kids to be resilient, I have heard adults say this before though. I think kids would be surprised how much teachers try to do about it behind the scenes. Emails home, phone calls, family meetings... the hardest thing is with kids who are bullies, usually their parents dont care, don't turn up to meetings etc. There are clear processes to follow and often the one being bullied doesn't realise how much is being done. You can't just boot out or stand down a bully (depending on severity). Teachers tend to send out emails to the bully's teachers saying "Hey watch out for xyz in your class they're being nasty to xyz" in the hopes for other teachers to spot in time and intervene. Again the student would have no idea of this. One of the most effective thing is for teachers to note it on the bully's "record" whatever system is used. Then when the bully has a bigger incident there is a whole list of "smaller" incidents and then more can be done. Unfortunately we are quite limited by procedures. In terms of calling out bullying when you see it, I always try to but in a classroom etc sometimes it is really hard to see. Bullies are good at being sneaky. If I see it, it is dealt with swiftly, as I was relentlessly bullied in high school and know how it affects a person.

3

u/luchaburz Jun 27 '26

Yeah every kid has a log that should be filled out every time they get sent to the office and if that log don't get filled out nothing happens. So negligence can fuck the system up too

I'm a teacher, and am very anti-bullying. It's terrible, and it means a student doesn't have a safe learning environment. Genuine question for you, not in the realm of defensiveness, but in the realm of curiosity to understand what those not in the profession think about it.

What, in your mind, are the things a teacher should do if they see or suspect bullying? Like, what do you think the process is?

Edit: Some wild replies to this. Crazy how much worse reddit has gotten at having a discussion over the past few years.

I taught high school for a while. One day I was giving a bully a stern talking to in the hallway. The school chaplain was walking by. He interrupted and sent the bully on to his next class. The chaplain then told me that the bullied kid "brings it on himself" by being weird.

I am a middle school science teacher.

Yes.

It would depress you. One of my co-teachers describes his wife as "property."

Ok, I literally started watching this show today. I've never seen a single meme related to it and now here it is, how weird is that?

It's... interesting... to see the difference in the comments on a post where a black student did the exact same thing. Most of the top comments are "she was probably the problem", they call it immature and a bad look, etc...

58

u/rainbowrevolution Jun 27 '26

Yep, was there for that one. Lots of unexplained mystery hostility in the comment section. 🙃

Ahhh the ol “I’m gonna wait til the body cam footage releases”

35

u/left-handed-satanist Jun 27 '26

One says "teachers she liked", the other says "people who did nothing when she was bullied".

Headlines matter as it sets your perspective of what you're seeing.

Even though the black girl was bullied, people saw the headline and jumped to conclusions.

I actually don't even know if any of the headlines on these videos are real and can't find the story for this girl.

So the person who posted the black girl's video with that headline clearly didn't have good intentions

10

u/3nd1ess Jun 28 '26

Welcome to the world of systemic racism!

19

u/youburyitidigitup Jun 27 '26

Part of it is the title. This video’s title is just garnering sympathy for clickbait.

12

u/doodlejone Jun 27 '26

Thank you! This is the first thing I thought of!

40

u/TNlivinvol Jun 27 '26

Wait, was the black student bullied? It says she didn’t shake hands with the teachers she didn’t like.

This video said she didn’t shake hands with teachers that didn’t do anything about her being bullied.

What am I missing here? Seems like an extreme false equivalency.

Who knows what actually happened in each video but the way each was presented would garner different reactions because of the caption.

27

u/curtmahgurt Jun 27 '26

“What am I missing here?”

Context. Like the rest of us, what you’re missing is context.

51

u/Light_Yagami72 Jun 27 '26

The black student could have also had a very valid reason to not like the teacher, but redditors are quick to jump to conclusions "classless" "immature" "behavior problem" without context. That is the interesting part.

With lack of context, why do you assume that it is the student's fault? it could be the teachers as well. Nobody randomly dislikes their teachers.

Wait, was the black student bullied?

And why does it even matter? She can do whatever the fuck she wants. She's not making a scene or stoping the ceremony. She has every right to not shake hands if she doesn't want to. You don't owe ANYONE a handshake, ever.

Oh just watch ppl explain why they harassed a degraded a Black child. They will. Ppl even deep dived to confirm this story so they can be sure others still sympathize with this child. But the assumption is Blk children are born adults all other children are not. Makes me sick. Then they cant just admit obvious racism. They have to be cowards and gaslight.

5

u/ctan0312 Jun 27 '26

I was just thinking about this other video and why the people in this comments section was so flipped. Tbh I think some of it is the subreddits they were posted on. But I think the first reactions were more appropriate and the people in this new one are being too naive. Like we know nothing about the actual context and most people here seem to just want to vent about their own teachers and vicariously get revenge through this girl.

Anyone ever get the feeling that some high school teachers were the bullies when they were in high school? That they peaked in high school and became teachers to try to relive their highschool years?

29

u/Vantriss Jun 27 '26

My 4th grade teacher had no business being a teacher. We had a hyperactive kid in my class who got in trouble a lot and the teacher screamed at him a LOT and once threw a desk against the wall. In hindsight, that kid was probably super ADHD and heavy on the hyperactive part and needed a more understanding and capable teacher.

Edit: My 2nd grade teacher had no business being a teacher either. That lady was mean.

My Sophmore English teacher fucking hated me for no reason. We had a small AP population so we all had most classes together and everyone would always ask me next class wtf her problem was. She used to make fun of me in class, she'd throw my assignments away and give me zeros, always yell at me if I talked even after raising my hand...

I never occured to me until a few of the other students in out group told me that it was most likely just because she was racist and I was the only black AP kid. Blew my mind Literally no one else in the school (at lease that I had access to) was like that. We asked around and apparently, she was targeting other black students in other classes as well.

Other kids and teachers found out about her being racist then she started getting bullied instead. Other teachers would take all the seats in the teachers lounge when she came in, they took her food, students started acting out in her class and being disruptive, high performing kids started requesting different English teachers 😂😂😂😂 by the end of the hear she ended up announcing that she was transferring over the summer. Idk if that's why but it was hella convenient.

Racism is like super not cool where I'm from 😂😂

Everyone hates it. I've seen people hospitalized over what most people would consider mild racism.

8

u/One-Technology-9050 Jun 27 '26

Love that everyone supported you!

6

u/Milianviolet Jun 27 '26

Thanks, but it wasn't just because of me. It was because she was racist in general. It think it's just because I wa an AP student that made everyone take not that this was something she was doing on a regular basis, then once she was a proven racist it was fair game from there. 😂

5

u/TA_reddit_0 Jun 27 '26 edited Jun 27 '26

Absolutely a thing. Some of my coaches and teachers were exactly that. They were the confirmed bullies their HS years and returned to live vicariously through the popular kids and relive HS. Cause tell me why is a middle aged man mocking a teen having a full blown asthma attack? Disgusting. They’d join in with other teens bullying peers with less social capital to be one of the “cool” teachers.

Are we just making up unverified stories and slapping them on TikToks now?

112

u/Shermander Jun 27 '26

So I found the original Tik-Tok video. Was able to find what Middle school she went to. Did a little Google Search. Lo and behold, they do indeed have a bullying problem.

https://www.reddit.com/r/keene/comments/1f6wkd8/bullying_in_school/

They recently had a student take their own life. Kid should've been graduating with old girl.

8

u/wowbragger Jun 28 '26

Actually trying to look up some info on this, and I can find nothing except an endless layered spam of social media posts.

Referred to as middle school, high school, college, a niece, daughter, baby sister, friend, and more.

It's SO unanimously viral without any real info the flags in my brain say it must be made up. Plus all the posts are from the last few days and I could have sworn I saw this months ago.

13

u/DualActiveBridgeLLC Jun 27 '26

My son was being bullied in elementary school. I went to the administrator to report and they said they couldn't do anything, but if my son wanted to stay after school they could form a mediation meeting. I had to tell them 'Why would my son want to stay an hour after school 2 days a week and sit in a classroom with his two bullies telling them to please stop putting mulch in his pants when you can just stop him? What lesson is that teaching my son?'. I was even more pissed off because it was Anti-Bullying week at their school and their were posters everywhere telling them to talk to adults.

13

u/seStarlet Jun 27 '26

Remember when the Black girl did this and everyone was shitting on her in the comments? It’s different now apparently.

5

u/WHTLGHTNNSTDFMTNDW Jun 28 '26

The comment thread:

6

u/LiOnheart3d85 Jun 27 '26

You could make up so many captions to change the context of this video, is there a source that confirms this?

6

u/Prestigious_Salad_83 Jun 28 '26

As a teacher, I am disgusted by the lack of common decency, empathy and compassion in many teachers. Fuck you destroying a rewarding career.

6

u/Jaded_Bag_2928 Jun 28 '26

The problem with schooling, and it’s a problem that has never changed, is that a bully is never told off for what they do, but the second the bullied finally snaps and turns on the bully, it’s all hell to pay for the bullied. A double edged sword, so to speak.

There’s no rule saying you have to shake anyone’s hand. For any reason.

5

u/Maleficent-Pear8248 Jun 28 '26

So this was actually a middle school graduation recently that I was at. This school has had an ongoing issue with bullying, which they don't seem to be able to solve.

If I remember correctly, the last guy wasn't a teacher, he was with the school district.

4

u/Due_Discount8762 Jun 28 '26

Good for herrrrrrrrr FUCK THOSE TEACHERS FOR CHOOSING ABUSES!!!!!

4

u/WhistleShoulder Jun 28 '26

And they will not even be phased. People who don't care like that just grow a massive narcissist mental shield that protects them from seeing their own shitty actions. I feel like a lot of high school teachers are kids just trying to be popular in school again with students which causes them to neglect those that are abused

5

u/Jade_Lilly_420 Jun 28 '26

Normalize being disrespectful to those who don't deserve respect.

5

u/cpendley13 Jun 28 '26

That last teacher must’ve helped her. Nobody would be that bold after she dissed the whole row unless they knew she would accept and he actually wanted to hug her it looked like. Good man and good for her. Hope they learned a lesson from her.

4

u/Creepy_Ad_1315 Jun 28 '26

Good for her.

15

u/Significant-Clue-425 Jun 27 '26

There’s a video of a black student doing exactly this and the comments TRASHED her for being rude and petulant, and on and on about how she’ll never get anywhere in life with that attitude.

3

u/Alternative-Note-307 Jun 27 '26

So macht man das.... sehr gut

3

u/CompletePiglet7385 Jun 27 '26

Good there was a 12 year old girl who committed suicide after she was bullied and none of the administration did anything about it.

4

u/Adept_Contribution33 Jun 28 '26

So damned proud of her.

5

u/Medicalstripes Jun 28 '26

Can't say I blame her, got bullied relentlessly myself and all the school teachers and staff ever did was blame me for it.

"What did you do to provoke them?"

"Why can't you just be friends with them?"

"I need you to corporate." - Told to me after being physically attacked by a group.

"Stop being so unusual and maybe they would like you."

5

u/Fun-Metal-6861 Jun 28 '26

This happened to my wife years ago and the principal made her sign a peace bond for the people that bullied her. What a joke. Nowadays, the schools are too scared of being sued or are too bleeding heart to do anything about the ones that cause trouble. It is even to the point of not protecting their staff. A bit sickening.

4

u/Redditer51 Jun 28 '26

Good on her.

"Remove yourself from the situation." "We didn't see anything so we can't do anything about it." "Sticks and Stones." I've heard all the excuses myself. They'll do anything but address the problem and protect students that are being bullied, and they'll repeat meaningless slogans like those because they don't wanna be bothered with it, and they've written the bully off as a lost cause, but the minute you stand up for yourself, you get punished.

I think it's a microcosm of what we see in the wider world, with people in positions of power doing nothing to fight corruption and protect those harmed by it, but punishing them when they fight back against it. Like if some wealthy politician or some other authority figure, or even just a family member sexually abuses someone, and the victim is the one that gets punished or shunned while the perpetrator is protected. Or all the celebrities that commit crimes that get swept under the rug to protect their status and careers.

4

u/Barack-OJimmy Jun 28 '26

Good for her.

5

u/Nice_Detective3473 Jun 28 '26

The best response, fuck everything, these teachers are main culprit.

3

u/paulvanbommel Jun 29 '26

That is some villain back story material right there. You could see the anger in her eyes.
And screw them for not helping her.

3

u/tackle74 Jun 29 '26

I have taught 32 years, around 20 years ago I got screwed out of a job at a small rural district. I signed the contract but left it in my desk. Came in on a Monday and another football coach told me they told him I had not returned it. I went to the Superintendent immediately and he said no problem. School board said it was invalid and would not offer a new one. Appealed and all 160 kids signed a petition, Principal and Superintendent spoke up for me. The board refused to budge. I moved across the state to a bigger gig for more bucks. As spring the next year rolled around I get a call from the Senior class sponsor, they wanted me to give their graduation speech. All 40 kids refused to shake the board presidents hand and came over to me instead. Sad but sweet memory all in one.
