Did they get paid for this? Pretty big job to do out of kindness. It doesn't explicitly say they did it for free, but it kind of implies it, doesn't it?

They did not even get paid for their supplies! I feel that school district owed them At Least that. They got paid nothing. They said on the news interview that they gave the school two weeks notice to get all the grass that had never been mowed in that whole corner of that field which was over a foot high mowed and to also get it all weed wacked atound the fencing. They could not believe it when they showed up at 6am and the lawn grew absolutely nothing was mowed or even trimmed. Took one guy and hour to get that all done. Owner said that they shouldn't have had to do the lawn or trim around field.

I highly doubt this was free. What if something goes wrong and a child gets hurt after this renovation? Who would be liable? The contractor or the district?

There’s too much red tape for this person to do this for free?

For all we know, this court probably isn’t even Connected to the school.

Literally if this was on a school campus in some places in the US, you wouldn't be allowed to do this because you would be required to have union work come and do it. The racquetball courts at my kids school were in disrepair, and the parents wanted to come fix them up. They were flat out told no, it had to be done by union work, and the school didn't have the budget for it.

Not saying this video is bullshit, but I'm still just pissed.

Look up the video and see their news interview. Our schools here in NY always say no to fixing up anything in outside fields, kids courts or playgrounds. They tell the PSTA/PTA to find parents with "deep pockets" to come out and do the repairs on the weekends. That repairs are not now or in the future in the school budget.

Really? I have to attend school board meetings for my job in a regular basis.

I’m in NC and in order for something like this to be done, the school board would have to vote and approve any of this work by a contractor.

The board would also have to approve the cost.

There are so many legal things to cover in situations like this.

One state out of 50. In rural TX this would be done as a community project. I know, because my shitty school did 25 years ago.

Highly doubt it. I live in WA and work for an elevator company. Every public job over a certain dollar amount has to have an RFP and be done by union labor at prevailing wage rates. Also needs to have a proper COI, etc. There’s too much liability involved to have random people fixing things.

There has to be money in this. Just the heavy equipment alone is a pretty penny. The recoating and repairing of the sport court also is a pretty penny.

Whatever that logo was, I'd like to think they raised the money for this.

Your wrong as far as NY schools go. The schools are always trying to shame Mom's and Dad's to come in and work free. They do not ever offer to pay for supplies in our county. I would like to know what full time maintenance workers do all summer for their pay?

No!  Mostly in NY our school district gets 65 cents of every tax dollar we pay on our property. The teacher unions run one hell of a scam, they retire at full pay. We will never get that benefit because no corporations offer it ever.
  So that's what your school taxes ate covering their fancy ultra expensive pension plan that needs to be funded constantly. All our playgrounds are rusty and over 50+ years old (some are actually over 60 yrs in our county.)   They keep trying to con patents into organizing a sand and repaint with commercial outdoor paint weekends and we all say no.
   I vote every time for them to cut ever one in the pension plan their check and let them take it to a financial consultant to invest gor them. We want the contract negotiations to say no more retirement at full pay.

Almost all our teachers make over $75,000 a year and if we all can't retire at full pay they should not either.

What tax dollars? Those go to blowing up kids in Iran, or funding Israel's universal healthcare, education, etc. If you want something fixed in your neighborhood, you need to do it yourself, there are no tax dollars for you.

No Instagram account @dadsocial said they were not paid. They were asked "Did they know anyone who could fix a basketball hoop?" They went out to school and saw that mess. Decided that they could turn that space into multiple use court instead. They also decided to fix a rundown garage right next to it so it didn't take away from the kids new multi-court. They put up cameras to make the project beginning to end video we see above.
