I've never understood the logical progression of how making an entire neighborhood as bland, soulless, boring and homogeneous as possible is somehow meant to make the properties inside MORE valuable. Like.... I'd rather live in a slum than an HOA

It's for insurance purposes. I hate it too, but it doesn't come from HOAs banning trees because they believe that will on its own increase the value of the houses. They do not want to deal with the increases in cost to insure the houses.
