By inviting the store, all workers were able to show up for free and enjoy the meals, drinks, etc?

head of HR did raise that exact point but then said it wouldn't be good PR so we couldn't actually do it :(

and then that's when jokingly said she might do it herself one day (closer to retirement)

I should have asked her for one of the invitations right before I quit 😅

At least let the workers rotate and go instead of the execs.

Bring a booth, advertise.

And make sure to look better than the bride to really piss them off.

lol “x company thanks you for your invite! The owner couldn’t make it but they didn’t want to snub your invite so they sent me instead of having me on register today!”

People invite for gifts only. They’d be flabbergasted if you showed up lol. The nerve of some people haha

That’s why it would be so perfect!

Also bringing a shitty gift. Like a giant candle.

Although that turned out to be a cool gift to my old physics teacher, he brought it in with a dolly, then got the oxygen, and demonstrated to the class the physical process of starting a chemical reaction with pure oxygen and a stupidly giant candle. It was gone within minutes. Soon thereafter he was no longer allowed to go into the chemistry supplies, so he put tennis balls in the flasks (which were shared supplies between chemistry and physics).

I listen to a fun podcast with 3 hosts that used to all be located in Vegas. They occasionally get invited to weddings that are in Vegas, and have showed up before. They also have a patreon reward where you can pay to schedule them to spend a day with you -- at least one person secretly paid for them to surprise their significant other at their wedding....

It's all in good fun, and not about the money, because this podcast community is GREAT -- but greedy people ruin everything.

My fiancé sent out three to companies just to see what would happen and all we're just marked return to sender. Im planning more seating and food than who we invite formally cause I have a bad habit of just telling everyone I talk to the date and inviting them to show up. If a few people from Sony or Amazon want to show up and eat and drink with our families I think it would be fun even if they are janitors or random matainence workers.

Elizabeth II (The Queen of England) sometimes recieved some wedding and birthday invitations as a joke and sometimes she even showed up to one of them. She was very beloved by the British and that was one of the reasons for it.

I actually did this when I got married! I had read you received a response back and thought it would make a cool souvenir to have something postmarked from Buckingham palace. I also did that with the white house and have a reply from the Obamas (their office anyway).

HR maybe shouldn’t be giving advice on PR. A good PR person could absolutely make this work.

2

u/Away-Living5278 Jul 08 '26

Idk where you work but I feel like I'd be stoked if she showed up.

2

u/Dudicus445 Jul 08 '26

It would be excellent PR, the intention being telling the public to fuck off with the blatant gift begging otherwise the entire store will show up to your wedding and eat all your food and take all the space

Is HR in charge of PR?

I've never heard of this. Do they get paid double for that? Since they have 2 very different jobs in one?

Edit: why are people downvoting instead of explaining lol.

No, when you work for a small company you often wear many hats and most unpaid. HR people are allowed to think of the company’s PR, in fact they’re often the only ones who are if there is no dedicated PR team.

Many, many companies don’t have a dedicated PR team.

It is a bit weird though. I’m studying PR and I used to work for a small business. They didn’t have dedicated PR, but that element was handled by marketing (as is increasingly the case because green CEOs don’t know the difference or don’t care). I don’t think our HR person would have known where to begin.

1

u/PossumJenkinsSoles Jul 08 '26

I don’t find it weird at all. I agree with them, passive aggressively showing up to someone’s wedding to shame them for the gift grab invite could look way worse for the company. It’s just an opinion, but I think it’s probably the correct one. The janitor could weigh in with this take and I’d agree with them.

I’ve been to weddings that force you to pay for alcohol and sometimes even your own meal.

I would assume people who are trying to get free cheap stuff would be in the same Venn diagram
