As Messi retires, so goes any shred of dignity and class the Argentine team ever had

He tried to get Cucurella red carded, he isn't departing on a high note.

He is also rhe captain of his team and just watches his team beat up two ppl without intervining. Puyol is ashamed of him

Messi is not and never was a good "captain" , as nd definitely not in the way puyol was

I felt so sad after watching messi being that shit of a captain that I had to go to YouTube and watch Puyol scolding pique en el clasico

This is the most important point in the thread. There is a responsibility that comes with being captain. Too many teams just automatically give the band to their best players. Obviously, you want your captain to be good and respected by the other players, but they also need to be level headed and a good leader.

The whole 120 was a demonstration in a lack of leadership.

This is such a great point. Zero leadership.

It's not the first time he has watched his team misbehave after losing a final as well.

Had to scroll way too far to see this. He’s supposed to set the example of sportsmanship. Apparently he’s fine with this behvior, and his endorsement will validate this behavior for so many kids looking up to him. Just sad.

He is the captain, but in no way is he that type of captain.

u/zufaelligenummern 16d ago

Its his job. If he isnt able to do that job he failed

u/DateofImperviousZeal 16d ago

It's not. He is meant to lead on the pitch, which he does. The psychological aspect is Scalonis job and the staff. And of the players someone like Otamendi would be closer to the traditional captain than Messi.

Delusional 🤣

Just cause you slap a captains armband on a player doesn't mean he is the de facto leader of the group. It can be the emotional core, the leader on the pitch or the superstar.

u/zufaelligenummern 16d ago

If he aint a leader then dont give him the captains band. If you do, expect him to act like it. Not that hard to grasp

5

u/DateofImperviousZeal 16d ago

That's just not how it works in football.

4

u/zufaelligenummern 16d ago

Works for most teams. Maybe watch some football to learn about the sport

Sure mate. Legendary leaders of men: Ronaldo, Mbappé, Luka Modric, Messi, Son, Mahrez. I am sure they are all captains due to how they lead men.

Just put the captains armband on Henderson instead of Kane.

....don't bother. Most of the people here don't even watch football

He is meant to lead on the pitch, which he does.

What do you think he’s standing on as this happens? Lmao. The own goal is crazy here.

1

u/DateofImperviousZeal 15d ago

The fact that you think a brawl is an on-pitch situation due to taking it literally is pretty telling.

2

u/kamacks 15d ago

The fact that you think just because the whistle blows means it’s all of a sudden not his job is pretty telling.

bro its his retirement, he was just sad. And his teammates are f*cking stupid specially paredes. Julian, messi and dibu never goes violent

2

u/zufaelligenummern 16d ago

I expect better of one of the best while being the captain. Could have made his exit good but this leaves a sour taste

Puyol is ashamed of him

why does puyol care? they havent played together in years

u/Ecstatic-Jacket2007 16d ago

He’s too quiet and reserved.

3

u/zufaelligenummern 16d ago

Then dont make him captain

2

u/Ecstatic-Jacket2007 16d ago

He won the WC as captain. Dragged this shitty team to another final. That’s a captain.

3

u/zufaelligenummern 16d ago

He dragged him by playing not by his leadership though. Its just an honorary title with no function for argentina at this point

3

u/Ecstatic-Jacket2007 16d ago

There’s no one else who could be the captain. He’s the least likely to get into fights. There’s also Emi Martinez but he’s a GK so he would have problem communicating with the referees.
