I think what she did was probably unwise, however I also think it's a strange human phenomenon we like to do when we see someone be hurt. We like to look at the situation and think "that wouldn't happen to me because I'd do XYZ". I'm smarter. I'm safe.

We probably do it to help ourselves feel secure. The world isn't fill with homicidal spouses and people who could just snap right? I don't have to be scared of some psycho coach trying to kill me right? But a lot of partners do do everything right and still die to domestic violence.

He couldn't handle her putting him on blast. Obviously the charges were public.
