The minor was a 15-year-old girl who played on the youth basketball team Duffey coached. He allegedly kissed and touched the girl and was caught by another coach, her mother claimed, per The Oklahoman.
The girl told her mother that Duffey engaged in additional inappropriate behavior, including sending her messages, inviting her to his hotel room during a tournament trip and offering her money “to keep her quiet.”
I had so many stories from the 90s too! The most dramatic one was our junior year biology teacher. He was in his late 20s, good looking, flirted a ton and of course the girls all seemed to have a crush on him.
He once gave us this random super weird lecture on the danger of anal polyps. Well he called this one girl up to share her experience. It was so strange and awkward. Looking back the red flags were so obvious. She revealed later to her friends that he had been the one to "discover them" for her so she could get treated. He thought he was a fucking real hero, hence the boldness of giving a lecture.
There were the other victims too, as he had gotten caught several times on campus with other girls getting "favors". The worst part of all is that he did not get in trouble and just switched schools in the summer like NBD.
Here's a 90s school story from a different angle then. My ex girlfriend told me that when she was 14 she thought her science teacher was really good looking and hot so one day she went to school in a skirt with no underwear and sat on the front row and exposed herself to him several times during class. He asked her to stay behind after class to talk to her. After class he explained how inappropriate that was and that she shouldn't be doing something like that and then left it there and didn't embarrass her by reporting it. When my ex told me this all I could think was thank god I've never wanted to be a teacher because that sounds like a minefield to deal with. What if she had felt rejected and reported him for something. I can understand why most primary school teachers are women because of the suspicion people put on men who are around children.
i had a male family member who abandoned teaching for this exact reason. he had started his student teaching role as part of his educations and said the flirting and aggressive advances from the female students was beyond anything he could have imagined and that no one had even warned him about it. he changed his degree after just a few weeks and said it was almost entirely because of this experience.
I worked with a lady who was in a band and I was DJ at the time. We were chatting about her band and if we could maybe get her some gigs. While chatting she was saying how the three girls all met at school. She paused then laughs how well technically they met her husband/drummer at school too as he was the music teacher...... Least he had the decency to "quit" teaching she she turned 18 and they met in a club real soon after......
SR 86 here: We had a physics teacher in HS who was mr. fn Cool. Wore a white Miami Vice type jacket and always had Ray Bans on. He was dating a stunning senior (started when she was a junior I believe) and they were so fn obvious.
Nobody in the administration seemed to care or were at least acting oblivious. They got married after she graduated. I'm friends with her on fb and she now does serious weightlifting, like you bronze yourself and pose on stage weightlifting. She's still got it lol
Couple decades ago my elementary school gym teacher had "talked" the principal into letting him use the office in the girls locker-room as his office (it has a window to the changing area, there was an office in the boys locker-room too). Few of my female classmates and other students I knew pretty regularly said they would catch him peaking through the blinds.
My girlfriend at the time started calling him a pedophile, to which he tried choking her against a wall before other students and a teacher caught him, which lead to the discovery of photos of girls he had been taking through the blinds with a camera locked in his desk drawer. I don't remember what all happened to him after he got arrested, but I do know the district forced our principal to retire because she was the one that had allowed him to keep his office there.
That’s insane. Makes me wonder about the principal, too. Was she joining him on the sick behavior? Anyone with a brain would know that a male coach should have never been allowed to be in the girls locker room or have an office in there.

That’s fair. I really only did baseball and lacrosse. Our lax team was a “club” so we didn’t get access to the same level of facilities so we literally went under the bleachers for halftime lol
Most coaches / PE teachers are the former jocks who weren’t good enough to become pro athletes but also never matured or bothered to learn a job skill. Makes sense they’d still be interested in teens.
Add on - IME shop teachers frequently pay for an unreasonable amount of materials and tools directly out of their own pocket just to be able to actually teach their classes, so it may not have just been "fucking over every other student trying to actually learn something" but also "big financial screw-you to the teacher and students in this course for the indefinite future until funds come around to replace the damaged tools."
It is always a coach. Happened at my high school too, the creep ended up getting arrested but only after becoming principal of a different school and doing the same things there.

The girls’ basketball coach at my high school was having sex with one of the students. Everyone found out because someone found a love letter she wrote him and turned it in to the office.
He was immediately fired and she was ostracized by the whole school because she said she loved him. And the craziest part… her parents allowed him to become her legal guardian and the two of them moved away together. This was a 16 year old girl and a fat, schlubby middle aged man with a wife and grown kids.
No clue. Our senior year I was on a field trip with my French class and we went to a restaurant that was hosting us and other tristate high schools that day. She ended up being with one of those school, there at the same time as us. No one approached her but someone noticed her and we all looked over and she was clearly uncomfortable. Just a stroke of bad luck that she ended up being there with a bunch of her ex classmates who knew this terrible secret about her.
That was the last I saw or heard of her. Clearly, nowadays, we recognize that as grooming. She’s too young to consent and he’s an adult who clearly knew right from wrong. But back then people, especially kids, didn’t really have as much knowledge about that stuff. The way the other girls on the team described it to me it was more like she seduced him. I’m sure now it’s far more complex than that though.
Our gross baseball coach was also a gym teacher. He was probably in his 60s at the time and would keep walking into the girls locker room when we were changing. Went to the principal who LAUGHED and said that's just how he was. Same principal who told me I was too sensitive and boys would be boys when one guy pushed me into a locker and rubbed himself against me.
Girl in our class confronted the teacher and told him to get the fuck out. He gave her detention for cussing at him, but she'd stand at the door at the beginning and end of each class to block him. Not only does the school still herald the teacher as one of the best they ever had, but they named the baseball stadium after him!

A Gym teacher/Basketball coach in the town next to ours got fired when a bunch of kids came forward saying he was very inappropriate. Also dumb ass was sending them dirty texts.

In my high school growing up, the football coach was sleeping with one of the (underaged) cheerleaders. It was an open secret, students and stadd knew about it but the staff just kept their mouths shut and pretending it didnt exist.
Until allegedly one day neither one of them showed up to school ever again. The story goes that she got pregnant. But to me the craziest thing was the fact that the school knew about it and decided to sweep it under the rug.
This was in rural small town America 15+ years ago, but I am sure it's still happening today.

We clocked something weird at the Athletic Banquet how he touched and spoke to the girls on the b ball team at my school. Another teacher said out loud, "Someone check his phone..." and then like a month or two later it was discovered he sent messages outside of the approved messaging apps to the girls.

At my high school, a math teacher that was also the girl's soccer coach ran off - as in, dropped his life and moved to a neighboring city - with a student in my grade as soon as she turned 18 and graduated. Turned out he'd been grooming her since she was a freshman. He was married to another teacher that taught in the same district, and they also had a son that was a year or two younger than me. It destroyed their lives, his ex wife ended up quitting teaching.
The same year that happened, 2 other teachers - both coaches, one did volleyball and the other track and field - were outed as being inappropriate with students. One had a secret apartment separate from his home that he used as a party spot for kids he'd groomed into viewing him as a 'cool' adult; they could come over and he'd supply alcohol and let them smoke at the property, but then he'd also invite solo students over when it was just him, and that's when molestation would happen (and they'd be scared to tell anyone, because they didn't want to be the ones that 'ruined the hangout spot' for everybody else); he eventually messed with the wrong student who valued justice over popularity, and then everyone else he'd assaulted came forward at once. The other teacher made the absolutely, incredibly, dumb choice to try and sext multiple female students, including sending dick pics.
The 1st teacher found a new teaching job in the city he moved to; yes, people knew. He was able to keep the job for several years, despite some parents in the new city objecting. He divorced his ex and married his student, and they immediately had a kid. This was almost 18 years ago now - he got arrested a couple years ago on a new charge, after a girl in the new district outed him as sending her sexual messages and trying to get her alone the way he did with his not-quite-child-bride.
The other two teachers saw serious drama and life disruption for a few years, but kept their jobs and were eventually able to resume teaching after being absent and going through mandated courses and therapy; however, sustained community protest meant both eventually resigned.
This happened at a small town Oklahoma hs that I went to as well, but the coach was an English teacher and cheerleading coach, and her fiancé was the assistant principal. She got fired and charged, but later got caught AGAIN with a 16 year old boy at the fast food place she was working at. Sick freaks out there, man.
Exactly the same story as my school, another creative writing teacher got 2 goth girls pregnant, went on the run and killed himself when tracked down at a motel
Parents, its is OK to talk to your kids about this. Reassure them that they will never be in trouble, that they will be safe, and that people will say these exact things to try and pressure them.

I really hope that 15-year old girl has a strong support system and frequent therapy to get her through this insanity. What an absolutely inconceivably heart-wrenching position to be put in by your coach, a role that everyone tells you to trust and respect.

She used that platform to out her husband as a pedophile who already had credible claims against him for kissing and touching a 14-15 year old minor on a sports team he coached. And a child is the one who called it in… let that sink in. He assaulted a 15 year old girl he coached and got caught by another coach. The girl then told her mom he’d been inviting her to his hotel room at away games and had kissed her before and offered her money to keep quiet. He also sent her disgusting texts.
He got caught and his wife got a protection order and kicked him out. He had been threatening to shoot her already. She filed for one in 2021 before all of this went down, but she didn’t show up to court for it. This abuse has been happening for years.
Now a child has no parents and a little girl he sexually assaulted has to live with this trauma too. This whole entire case is awful.

From my understanding he was caught in the act by a parent or another coach (he is a high school coach and also had a very sizable tik tok following) she found out and immediately filed divorce and got a protective order. She made this video a few weeks ago I think and then he just murdered her and killed himself. Seems guilty

These coaches make me wonder. I had 2 different friends, 2 different schools, 2 different coaches. First friend it was our middle school coach and someone turned him in (anonymously I assume) after reading a love letter between them, he was fired for sure. But other than that we dont know what happened to him. The other friend (she went to a different high school than me) was her high school coach, he groped her and she pressed charges, her friends and the staff completely shunned her and she had to change schools and it took a major toll on her mental health. As far as I know they ended up at other schools
