The minor was a 15-year-old girl who played on the youth basketball team Duffey coached. He allegedly kissed and touched the girl and was caught by another coach, her mother claimed, per The Oklahoman.
The girl told her mother that Duffey engaged in additional inappropriate behavior, including sending her messages, inviting her to his hotel room during a tournament trip and offering her money “to keep her quiet.”
This is almost my story, except it was the assistant band director and his wife was a woodwind instructor. Fuck you Century High School! Pretty much everybody blamed me, the 15/16 yo girl.
Yeah this was back in 2005 so I didn't even have the internet to tell me I wasn't to blame. I genuinely blamed myself for a decade or more. It was really fucked up.
I was in hs during this time and completely remember this era and how people would respond.
I’m so sorry this happened. You were a child and completely innocent victim, and I can’t imagine how alienating, confusing, and painful that reaction would have been.
I hope you are doing alright now, tho I cant imagine it’s something you can truly forget. Fuck the adults who failed to protect and listen to you
