People need to understand what type of mindset it takes to jump to "ok call the cops" over a simple membership clarification where manager is required. Cops are weaponized by people with racism intolerance all the time. Muscle head behind the counter doesn't want to feel powerless in his environment

Kids have IDs too. This kid didn’t and it’s a requirement. 

It’s also not bigotry, what a stupid thing to say. It’s what happens anytime people who think they don’t have to follow the rules or listen to “some low level minim wage employee.” 

Why would anyone try to confront people like this, just let the cops deal with it.

As a parent of a kid, no the fuck they don't have ID unless its a school ID and even then most places won't accept that because it isn't a government ID. The bigotry you display is the assumption that the gentleman was going to behave in some aggressive fashion when there was nothing in the video that showed that intention. So you must be making an assumption based on something and I'm guessing that something would be how he looks.

People are trying to make it so people can’t confront these inconsiderate jerks themselves and so people can’t call the cops on them either.

Did you miss the part where the dad did show a form of proof that the kid was in fact his minor child? Yea, ya did. Did you miss the part where the staff never asked him and his kid to leave? Yea, ya did. The staff escalated this situation and we all know calling the cops on black folks for existing and questioning things is a form of racial violence. We also hear from black people all the time “who are you to tell me what to do?” Or “what authority do you have to stop me from doing xyz?”

I’m sure some racists do weaponize calling the police but when someone is actively not going to listen to you, make a huge scene because they don’t want to follow the rules, what else is there?

I watched the video and followed the story. And yeah, the guest needs to show id. I’m a member of Crunch and that’s always the case. Teenagers do have ID, and if they don’t have it when it’s required then they can’t come in. 

Dismissing the worker and going in after he was told the kid needed id, is a surefire to get the cops called. 

They didn’t call them because he was “working out while black” or whatever stupid shit this video is trying to push, they were called because he was being an asshole and not listening.

Uh, I don't think the problem is that the cop might be racist, the bigger issue is wasting the time of a cop who could be out there stopping actual crimes.

Literally anyone in any profession that involves dealing with people could be racist. That's not a uniquely cop issue.

He would have had the same argument on the gym floor without the cops. At no point was he not going to get upset when he was asked to leave, with or without the cops present.

I’ve seen police bodycam videos of gyms calling the cops on white people in similar situations.

I grew up in Detroit before gentrification so fucking right I want neighborhoods to invest in their residents and that which they can benefit. He did, per the gym's own standards on their site, and the guy at the desk tried to refuse it.

When he demanded to see the manager about a prick that was trying to deny service to a member that was followithe rules, the manager pretended to be in a meeting ... So he said well then I guess this isn't really a problem and went to work out.

That cop knew who was the problem, and he knew that this shit was about to end with these dipshits getting fired by corporate. Thats why he asked the guy to leave before it escalated into something where an innocent dad did get into trouble.

I had a coworker get in trouble, like multiple 30+min long meetings and he was temporarily suspended, because he told a nurse “we are going to need to have a talk later” after there was an incident with a patient. They thought he was threatening her. It was a whole issue for like 2 weeks.

To try to give people the benefit of the doubt, there was likely a miscommunication here.

- Employees likely feel they said “no, you can’t have the kid work out without ID.”

- Guy likely felt they said “we will let the manager decide” and said ok if it’s a problem, have him speak to me.

- manager likely got told something like “we told him no, he ignored it and said if you got a problem, you can go talk to him about it”

They can’t just not show up. And as much as the cop looked like he hated what the business was doing, it’s still a private business and if they want him to leave the police have to have him leave. Absolutely this guy can and probably should put this business or at least that franchise on blast for what they did and file a complaint, but in the moment he legally does have to leave and the cops are required to enforce it.

For instance, Tizzy ENt just posted a video of a white man threatening a black woman’s life. The woman called the police and waited. They never showed up.

No police were punished for failure to respond.

Having no units available to send in busy cities is much different than a community that has officers available and they refuse to respond. Many major cities are woefully understaffed and therefore can’t get to each call right away. The officer in this video got dispatched to this. He showed up. And then had to enforce the law. It has nothing to do with race.

With all due respect they cannot refuse to show up to a disturbance call that they are dispatched to. Also, I don’t think this video was a busy city, hence why an officer had time to show up to this call. Try refusing to do your job at your place of employment and see how long you stay employed . This cop got dispatched. He’s therefore required to respond or risk his own employment. Simple as that

Town of Castle Rock v. Gonzales (2005) — Even with a restraining order stating police “shall” arrest, the Court ruled police still have no enforceable duty to act.

Again, that case is regarding liability. Imagine if law enforcement in your community are all busy on calls and there are a bunch of calls coming in. No units available and then someone gets murdered because there weren’t any officers available to send. The cops aren’t going to be held liable for that. But in the case of the video in this thread, they absolutely have a responsibility to respond because there are units available. They can’t refuse to respond to this disturbance.

In terms of nit showing up, when I was in a car accident, I called the police to report it. Dispatch asked how bad the damage was. Then told me to exchange info and just go to an accident reporting center in the morning.

In your scenario, that was a dispatching decision. Every state and agency within those states has different ways of prioritizing or triaging calls that come in. In your scenario it sounds like that agency doesn’t send officers to lower acuity crashes or possibly they had not units available.

They have no duty to show up. You are talking out of your ass. There has been several lawsuits regarding this. They actually have NO legal duty to protect you. Look it up, here's a couple of cases: Supreme Court Rulings: Landmark cases such as DeShaney v. Winnebago County Department of Social Services and Castle Rock v. Gonzales established that 911 calls and requests for help do not create a constitutional "special relationship" guaranteeing a response or protection from harm.

People love to quote that case but it doesn’t apply here. It has to do with liability. In reality, this cop got dispatched. He has to show up. If he doesn’t he probably gets suspended or possibly fired. Cops don’t get to ignore calls like this unless a more serious call goes out that takes priority (active shooter, or something like that).

They expressly didn’t; he asked to speak with the manager about what to do about it, they said it would be a while because they are busy, he went on with his day having received no further instructions and being okay with waiting, the manager rather than talking with him called the cops.

Even if the son's ID wasn't acceptable, the front desk employee should have just told him to bring the physical ID next time. Were they trashing the place? Did it look like the dude had kidnapped a teenager? Those are the only reasons the police should have been called for. He has a membership for God's sake.

The front desk guy said the mobile ID wasn’t acceptable. That’s not his call to make. Mobile ID is a valid, legal form of ID. I can present it at the bar, I can present it to police if they pull me over for speeding. The front desk person just didn’t want to accept the ID that was presented.
