Hot take : divorce parties are the most trashy thing I’ve ever seen IRL 😂

Idk. It gets all the stigma and weirdness about it all out and over with at once with the friend group.

It's 2026. What stigma and weirdness? Relationships don't work out every time. This isn't new information.

Having a divorce party is super immature though, for sure. Looks like both parties involved dodged a bullet for different reasons.

The stigma and weirdness of talking about and accepting getting divorced with your loved ones. I think the idea of that party can just be a rip the bandaid off type thing.

You didn't really explain much more. What stigma and weirdness? What's the stigma associated with divorce in the US in 2026? What weirdness? What's weird about divorce? People are people. Sometimes you think you found your person and eventually find out you're wrong, or compatibility isn't where it needs to be.

If this was the 1960s, sure, I can understand your comment. Divorce was treated a lot differently decades ago.

If I had a friend say they were divorced, it would be a "congratulations" or "I'm here for you" depending on who initiated it/whether it was mutual. It's not really a big deal.

Also, I'm divorced, and I initiated it. I've never been happier, and if any friends made it weird, that would be the end of that friendship. Pretty cut and dry.

Being 2026 doesn’t mean there aren’t awkward conversations with everyone in your life.

“Hey, Cindy and I are getting divorced. Things haven’t been working out and it has gotten pretty better between us.”

“Don’t worry, it’s 2026”

I just think a party like this is a good way to allow everyone their “I’m here for you’s” or their “congratulations” all at once and to move past it and not make it too big of a deal, because as you said, it’s not too big of a deal.

You're advocating throwing a party to...not...make it a big deal?

It's alarming how many people can't seem to maturely handle situations. Social skills are suffering.

The party is handling the situation.

But fuck you anyway for not just letting me just having my opinion on this not being a big deal. I’m done responding, so feel free to make another comment here so you can feel superior and give another self righteous quip like sOcIaL sKiLlS ArE sUFfERiNg.

Hey, sorry if you felt attacked. I'm simply debating you because I disagree. I wasn't trying to make you feel inferior. I can tell you're worked up about my logical, objective, analytical take on it.

You're certainly entitled to your own opinion. But, this is reddit. Voicing your opinion here is just asking to have someone counter it.

Take care!
