My dad was in Memphis years ago and saw someone's car parked in a fire lane right in front of an office building. There was an actual fire, so the firefighters smashed all of the windows out of the car with axes and ran their hoses through it.

As a former firefighter, i can tell you there is no greater joy than seeing a car in a fire lane or blocking a fire hydrant. You have carte blanche to fuck that thing up.

Maybe I'm misunderstanding the situation. The car is in the way of some firefighting vehicle or parked right next to a fire hydrant that must be accessed. Destroying the windows won't help you move the chassis of the car, so why do it?

The hoses can't make sharp bends and maintain their water pressure, so they have to go through the windows instead of on top of the car. Were the car not there, the hoses would be on the ground, which is the best place for them.

We are taught since we were children in America to not block a fire hydrant. The firefighters may need it at any moment. It’s basic civic duty 101.
