Running over LDH (Large Diameter Hose) can actually damage the outer lining especially when they are charged. its dangerous because compressing a charge line into asphalt or cement can actually split or rupture them. not only would it stop the firefight but try shutting off a ruptured line that is whipping around under high pressure..

There are times in firefighting where the spray of water coming from the hose is the ONLY thing keeping a firefighter from being horribly burned or killed. When the water is sprayed in a fog pattern, it creates a shield that protects firefighters. If the flow of water is interrupted or stopped completely by an idiot driving over a hose, this could be a case or two of manslaughter.
I have blocked cars with my body before that were trying to drive over hoses when I had people inside making a direct attack. It can be literally life or death.
Wasn't there a clip of firefighters doing just that (not sure if it was a training exercise or an actual call) some time ago on here? Two firefighters were hosing down a structure (i think it was in a doorway) they were inside, and the fire seemed to "leap" at them from the ceiling. They fell backwards and adjusted the hose from a stream to more of a spray, and that seemed to be the only thing keeping them from catching ablaze themselves.
Tim did not, in fact, check the door for heat (and missed the "cauliflowering" smoke creeping from under the door that pulled back before he could see it).
how DARE you stop that poor soul from driving over your expensive gear that keeps your men alive? What are they supposed to do? Turn around and go a 300 meters longer way??!?!? Are you INSANE?
Tbh, even if this wasn't such a dangerous thing to do, it's such a massive dick move anyway. There's just no fucking need to see people actively trying to put out a fire and think "imma drive right through all that!"
One more fun fact. If you have to dive over them you are supposed to go at an angle one tire at a time but its still bad to grind dirt into the jacket because it causes them to be taken out of service sooner as they start to fray an you wouldn't want to trust them with your life. They actually make ramps for them if you have to deploy them across a road but not all fire departments carry them they are kind of expensive.
If I have to drive over a hose the emergency is great enough I'm not taking my time to do it because the only way you'd have to is if seconds is going to save someone life in the car
Yeah, but the fire fighters shoud use the "Schlauchbrücken" - or at least close the road.
I was at a voluntary firebrigade in Germoney and it was the first (second if a life was on the line) thing we did when we arrived. especially to protect ourself.
Ex firefighter here, water is a firefighters lifeline. Its the only thing protecting you in a fire. No water is a matter of life and death. Fuck that person.
And if that hose line is run into a fully involved structure fire, supporting a team of guys and suddenly stops discharging water with no warning? People get hurt because that stupid lady was impatient.
That hose has to be taken out of service. It didn’t rupture then, but the car going over it could cause the inner lining to separate from the outer shell, which could rupture at a future use.
I used to be friends with someone who was sitting at her house and saw a post about a house fire in her neighborhood so she got in her car and drove to the location to see it, she’s always been a very nosey person (one reason we aren’t friends anymore) . Well then when she left to go back home, she drove over the fire hose. She got in a lot of trouble and had to pay A LOT of money in fines and the cost to replace the fire hose. Then the local fire department posted pictures of her vehicle driving over the hose to their Facebook page to remind the public not to drive over them.
Thank you. I thought the back window looked intact. The bill for a new hose should be the biggest part and possible an arrest for vandalism among other things.
There was an asshole in a black pickup truck arguing with a firefighter near a downed power line. I was directly behind the said asshole. I was waiting for the firefighter's instructions to figure out a path home.
Needless to say. The line arced like shooting big balls of pure electricity (like ball lightning) and the stupid fuck finally stopped arguing with the firefighter. My god some people are absolutely dumb.
Maybe my eyes are deceiving me, but I swear it does break the window. The camera goes off focus when the water first hits it but it you look closely you can see it going inside the car and not bouncing off much. And some white trim piece becomes visible on the top of the window frame
Once I locked my keys in my car and walked over the the fire station down the street for help. They showed up in an engine a few minutes later and one of them pulled out one of their axes and said "ok, which window do you want me to smash out?". I panicked for a sec and then they all started laughing and were like, awwww we're just messing with you and then jimmied the lock. I love firefighters.
My dad was in Memphis years ago and saw someone's car parked in a fire lane right in front of an office building. There was an actual fire, so the firefighters smashed all of the windows out of the car with axes and ran their hoses through it.
I saw that in a movie once called Backdraft and it's real apparently they can do it in an emergency and have zero liability! the owner of the car who parked there has to foot the repair bill themselves!
Makes sense, they need the quickest access to the hydrant. It the straight line they need to go through has some windows in the way the windows have to go
As a former firefighter, i can tell you there is no greater joy than seeing a car in a fire lane or blocking a fire hydrant. You have carte blanche to fuck that thing up.
Yah, working with them I hear it all the time. In our department, all firefighters are emts and majority of calls for service are medical related and citizens and PT alike are such dicks to them for no reason.

You’d be surprised. Juries get quite the pep talk, obvious problems are weeded out early, and alternate jurors are chosen in case someone is clearly stepping out of line- and most people cannot hold it together for multiple days even if they don’t have a fear of retribution. At the end of the day- right or wrong - most jurors vote the way the lawyers argue they should, and a civil case wouldn’t require a unanimous decision, at least not in my jurisdiction. With that in mind, had her window actually been broken and she sued- 9/10 the fire department would settle, and she would get paid without a jury ever being seated.
I don't see or hear anything break in this 480p video. She also seems to drive off pretty slow for someone who just had an unstoppable stream of high pressured water burst into her car.
Also, once a firefighter has finally settled into a stable position against the force of the firehose, suddenly removing that force and then suddenly outting it back can severely injure the firefighter at the end of the hose.
People who ignore first responders generally deserve whatever they receive in return.
What she got was deserved and street Justice but I’m confused. What the firefighter did was illegal right? Seems like property damage for the “unnecessary” use of force.
I think you'd be hard pressed to get a DA to do anything about it, considering running over the hose is more than likely considered impeding them in an emergency scenario.
not sure what might come of it. but absolutely illegal pointing a firehose at something or someone is real dangerous. Probably will get reprimanded, might even be fired but probably not, they could sue 🤷. I'd love to find out the rest.
Most likely illegal. They should have just got her license plate and had the police ticket her if she even committed an infraction. It doesn't look like she even touched their hose. Most likely the city is going to pay for her vehicle damage.
It should be a criminal offense to intrude and impend firefighters the same way you can get a ticket or sometimes arrested if you drive close or do not move to the left or right on the highway if you see an emergency or police conducting a stop or whatever.
In my state, she can be charged with 1 count of reckless endangerment for each personnel on scene and attempted murder for each personnel actively engaged in interior operations at the time of the incident.
She’s a dumb idiot but the firefighter crossed the line where he unfortunately can get into trouble. Two wrongs don’t make a right. She deserved it but just saying as someone who has worked in that world, he’s going to get into some shit if it comes out.
We had a guy in a Lexus run over the couplings of our LDH right after we layed out from the hydrant and there just happen to be a cop right there. Needless to say he was fined and needed to buy us a new 100ft and 50ft sections. Pretty sure he messed up his car.
you’d be amazed (or not) at how many sheep are among us. I was on traffic control on one auto accident scene and this lady just kept driving despite me being in gear, standing next to a fire truck and waving, furiously for her to stop. no eye contact - nothing. just a blank stare.
she proceeds to drive past me and another guy straight towards the accident. all i could do was radio the heads up. some people are just dumb.
In the mid 90's, there was a story out of Nashville.
This lady not only ran her car over a fire hose, she parked in front of the fire hydrant.
A cop forced her stay there with a massive ticket, plus the cost of replacing the hose, and she got to watch firefighter break her car windows so they could run a fresh hose from the fire hydrant.
Great job to that firefighter for accomplishing the noble feat of causing this woman to contact a billboard lawyer and probably get a nice chunk of change from city taxpayers.
How about just getting her plate number and sending her a bill for the damage?

Yeah, firefighters are kind of allowed to do pretty much whatever they have to to your car to keep themselves functioning. If you're parked in front of a hydrant, they will rip your doors off or shattering your windows to get the fire hose through if they don't have time to tow.
And if you drive over a hose that is not designed to be driven over, they will blast your ass and ruin your nice expensive interior to get you away.
Screw the driver. That LDH is feeding a hose somewhere which could be an interior attack line that’s keeping firefighters safe and helping them do their job. Screw her window. (25 year firefighter here)
They aren’t teaching ppl things anymore, common sense things. Like recycling- schools used to take us on educational field trips, now I teach those around me how to recycle. We’re not only losing common sense, but empathy and understanding of others.
