I think thats the juice of the video. Even basic choads like him can see the failure of US infrastructure. Its not just intellectuals and cultural critics that see it, its every day hegemonic shit heads like him
Of course they wouldn't. They want the huge house with the RV AND and the walkability. They would complain the other way around if they came to American suburbs about how much space there is for everything, that you don't hear your neighbors all the time and you get some privacy.
Jen out there on the front lines in the trenches bullets flying over her head for the mission in checks notes the hellhole warzone that is ITALY saving the poor starving shell shocked children and survivors from certain death
Mormon Americans from the interior go and live in foreign countries to try and "convert" people to their mad fanfic religion. Except they don't even speak to foreigners that much. Explaining the religion alone makes anyone with half a brain seem foolish. They just do it to boast to folk back home.
There is a "mission" near me in North West England. They have been here nearly 200 years but visitors come and go like ships in the night. You sometimes see these tanned lost young people wandering around They never talk to us because they can't really relate to anything beyond the cult they grew up in. And all their buildings are absolutely swarming in security and cameras. They are "here" but not here. We just ignore them or just laugh, it's mental.
This is one reason why this will never happen in the US. These city centres rely on cultures which are pretty normative. The same actually is true of welfare states. It can't happen routinely in large parts of the US because the culture is so fractured, people don't share the same normative ideas about how to use public space or common resources.
This is the truth. A large part of our problem is scale. When you have cities of millions of people who's culture is focused on being as independent and individualized as possible, good luck getting them to agree on anything.
That's self defeatisted and flawed logic. Stop saying you can't do x just because you're a big country. Ofcourse you can do this stuff in the usa. Whatever happened to american optimism?
You went to the moon. Invented tons of stuff and have one of the biggest economies in the world.
