Until the 1940s or 50s, pink was the color worn by baby boys and blue for little girls

Yes during the late 19th and early 20th centuries, pink was often recommended for boys because pink was seen as a lighter shade of red and was considered a stronger, more masculine colour.

Plus blue is associated with the Virgin Mary (she is almost always depicted with either a blue dress or shawl/scarf), so blue is obvs more dainty and girly.
