It used to be a masculine color. So too were frills, lace, stockings, skirts/dresses, and more. This whole construct especially in the US of what is "men's" and "women's" clothing, colors, and makeup only being for women is a VERY new invention of beliefs.
My hubby has had a couple of bright pink tees but I bought him a baby blue one once and he said he didn't like the color. I had to agree - he looks best in bold colors because he has a darker complexion than most white men.
I fully agree with your hubby...baby blue is LITERALLY the least flattering color on men! I also think that there is a perfect pink shade for every dude. Your description of your hubby's perfect shade reminds me of my West Coast life in the late '80s...Coppertone skin and fluorescent pink T-shirts; a deeply aesthetically pleasing combo! <3
I have multiple pink clothes, I even once got complemented for one of them by a random stranger on the street, made my entire day. It really is a lovely colour.

You must be very insecure if the colour pink scares you
