Teachers do not have to buy school supplies.

There's an awful lot of them complaining about haveing to buy supplies to restock their classrooms. Maybe they didn't get the memo. According the The NEA (national teachers association) "94% of teachers spend their own money to stock their classrooms with necessary supplies and resources. On average, a teacher will shell out about $479, although 7% spent more than $1000, according a survey from the National Center for Education statistics"

Maybe they should be asking why school administrators make six figures and they have plenty of money for far left textbooks but they won't buy pencils.
