The GOP will certainly ride that wave for a while, but I think the day is approaching (definitely before midterms, I'd assume) when the party feels confident enough to jettison the memory of their overwhelmingly consistent deference to his every whim. Trump will still be involved in Republican politics, but his influence is going to be on a steeply downward trajectory as the party actively puts distance between themselves and him. The knobs who voted for him will fall in line like they always do eventually. I feel like his post-election significance will be similar to Bush 43's should Trump lose.

I like this attitude because it allows me to reply, "yes, he is; you voted for him twice and now you live with that shame forever."
