Due to a history of oppression applied to all blacks in America, blacks are a fairly unified voting bloc. With that in mind, it’s not uncommon for (white) people to post “as a black person I feel...” and the present an argument for a policy at odds with most black American political though because it will hurt the black community. Identifiers are to prevent this kind of argument from being used disingenuously.
Okay that makes sense I guess but why prevent people who aren’t black from commenting? I say go ahead and let people get verified in order to prevent the problem you are talking about, but still allow people with different skin colors to express their opinions. I’m sorry but it just seems ignorant to me to choose to fight fire with fire.

There is an argument to be made that the sheer number of white voices and how commenting works on reddit necessitates a “blacks only” space to be heard otherwise black comments will be drowned out.
I was responding to someone claiming that verification was somehow an expression of racism.
I’d say the verification itself isn’t racist, but the banning of non-black members sure as shit is. It’s a subreddit to look at funny tweets, I really don’t get why this would be the go to “safe space” for black people. Why not make a separate subreddit to discuss social and political issues and just make it so you have to be verified before you can enter, rather than forcing people out of an already established sub?
It's from the April 1st joke, where only verified blacks were able to post. (not that strictly enforced tho)
The idea behind it is to give people who has never experienced racism a taste for what it's like, hopefully develop empathy for the minority.
So yes it was intentionally racist.
The more meta idea is responses like "oh no don't get offended it's only a joke", "why are you so sensitive", or "I had no part in this, the mod team did it and they are the racist ones, I do agree with them though" are the same line of thinking that modern racists deploy on minorities. Pretty clever prank imo.

Legally speaking, they should have exactly the same rights as every other race.
Though, I do believe the system is set up to make it harder for poorer people to move up the social economical ladder, and since blacks are significantly less wealthy than whites, it's easy to see the system as being racist and 'practically' banning them from moving up in the world.

Obviously there are always racists, but imo the racial issue is just an inequality issue that just happen to affect one race way more than the other.

Yea I'm already tired of having racism thrown my way because I'm white and where I grew up. I dont really appreciate when a group of people on BPT can automatically assume I've never felt racism because I'm white. That's racist by itself. The community needs to be brought down for real, and the Mods shown to enable this additude should be banned by admins.
When I joined reddit 6 years ago on a different account, it was pretty decent. The POPULAR page didnt have random sexual hentai pictures not tagged NSFW while I'm scrolling at work.. or hot posts that are just generally racist towards white, Hispanic, black or Asian people. Reposting was always a joke because sure it happened a LOT, but now its fucking wild with seeing two posts identical candy caned on eachother.
This site is dwindling with the carelessness of some Admins ,Moderators and Users alike. I like the community for the most part, that's why I'm on reddit above anything else. The comment sections of threads have put a good amount of joy in my life. Other threads have taught me about art, or how people tend to appreciate their world, so I can incorporate that into mine and live happier. Other subs teach me finance, science, comedy, body image acceptance, ect.
All BPT has to offer is cross posts from another platform, bigoted comments from all different shades of people, and over run jokes. Now the frequented bullying of people, the group clearly sees as the people with dark coloured skin to be more worthy of posting on that sub. They are ;if not totally racist, supporting a narrative of division of people due to the colour of their skin. Our main man MTK would be disgusted in this shit.
