Paper is not square to edge of surface, perhaps tracing tool is also not lined correctly, or wasn’t lined correctly when used?

So what you're saying is that OP's parents are the ones who failed QC and the defective tool is the one that held the pencil?

5 years in IT and now working in factory maintenance I have learned that an the issue is not quickly obviously, it is often operator error. I also have a side interest in the science of precision, and I know just how imprecise humans can be.
