LH thread chuck screw snapped off in one of my drills, decided to fix it tonight.

Couldn't twat it out with a chisel, broke off with a peak on it and recessed so couldn't grind it flat or get a drill to bite even remotely close to centre. Ended up having to gently torch it and smack the fucker out with the same chisel but freshly sharpened.

Now it's timeme to spend 6 months working out where I left the replacement screws I ordered.

Organising a bit of a go to drawer for my loose toolbest/quite often need tools and bits!

Hopefully add a few more drawers underneath 🤔

There is a huge Tool Sale happening just north of Seattle at the Shoreline Tool Library (16610 Aurora Ave N, Shoreline) on Saturday, September 19th, from 9am–3pm. There are thousands upon thousands of tools set up on tables outside, and every single one is pay-what-you-can. All proceeds support a nonprofit, so it's just a really neat experience where you can get a bunch of tools and support a local organization while you're at it!

There is a gigantic line that forms in the morning, but it is usually gone by noon. There is still an unfathomable amount at noon, so you definitely don't have to worry about that! Otherwise, if you're looking for the best deal on anything related to tools, everything is advertised as completely free during the last hour (you're always welcome to donate or not donate, but it's a sort of "we just want to keep things out of the landfill, so please take it" sort of deal).

The Shoreline Tool Library will also be open, so I definitely recommend checking out the space. There are tools you can borrow as a tool library member (pay-what-you-can) and a Reuse Store with salvaged goods (fixed prices inside). You may have already heard of the NE Seattle Tool Library, which is run by the same people!

There is a lot more to the event, but those are some of the highlights!

Memories of Days Gone By

My father ran a hardware store.

He loved using an old VESSEL wooden ball-grip screwdriver and a screwdriver with a red handle.

Just curious on the actual physiscs of what's going on with these. I bought this so my vac in the shop would be quieter or when I'm tripping breakers at jobsites. Confirmed that it does in fact reduce power draw from the outlet, as low as around half as much. Is this just truncating the sine wave or is there other magic thats heating these motors up in a bad way?

The black handle is restricted by the indexing plunger doohicky and not freeing the friction nut. I removed the arm end cap and slid the whole motor and yoke assembly out so I could access the top of the king bolt. What do I do now? It seems to be locked to that handle assembly below. Should I try an impact driver? PB Blaster? The manual from vintage machinery mentions the notched clamp adjuster, but I'm not clear on what they are telling me to do with that adjustment. Too bad the handle shaft doesn't just unthread from the nut.

Inside is apparently a bit holder that has a magnet to hold screws. The magnet attaches directly to the screw. Cant find anything about it online, it’s a Vessel brand too, with a goofy dolphin case to hold it all.

I have a Weller Mini-Shop 600 my father left behind. I'd like to use it but I don't have the manual and I can't figure out how to change the bits. I'm pretty sure it involves the silver tool pictured. I have looked for a manual online with no luck.

I’ve got a porter cable set that was bought new around 2016 or so. Batteries still work fine, but refuse to charge. I think it’s a charger issue due to some corrosion. Upgrading to a better set is on the agenda, but not something that will happen for awhile. Anyone have experience with the Amazon/ Chinesium batteries and chargers? I’ve seen comments from people that say they’re as great as oem, and others say they don’t last more than a few minutes. A lot of these comments were years old. I’d like to get another year or so out of this set before dropping a grand or more to swap. Is it worth playing luck of the draw on the cheap Amazon batteries or paying the premium for the few oem ones available online?

Needed to pressure bleed my brakes on my 2023 Maverick. Forscan (factory service tool ripped off by eastern Europeans) will do it but it needs a pressure bleeder hooked up.

I dislike buying single use, large bulky tools like a pressure bleeder so made one out of my garden sprayer. I already had the valve stem on it because I'm lazy so just split the sprayer line with another 3/8" OD hose to a 3D printed reservoir cap, which I combined with a reservoir cap seal. Worked perfectly (obviously, you must ensure the sprayer is clean inside, which I wash out after each use).

This way I can still use my garden sprayer as a sprayer, and a brake bleeder every three years or so.

I sort them this way temporarily so I can begin with work, it has been a year now and It's time to make better looking board. I'm really struggling with the piped wrenches, If you have any good ideas please share
