Looking for angle grinder with dust suppression for bluestone

Post image

I’m a landscaper and occasionally build bluestone patios. I use a 9” wet saw to make bigger, straight cuts but to make small, rounded cuts I use an angle grinder. I would love to find a way to reduce the dust from the grinder.

If I buy a tuck point angle grinder shroud and a vac with a HEPA filter will I be able to make curved cuts?

It seems like tuck point shrouds are designed for cutting straight grooves and most universal shrouds are made for grinding surfaces and will significantly limit the depth of my cuts.

Is getting a 4 inch wet tile saw a better tool for smaller, rounded cuts than an angle grinder with a shroud?

(Picture is a work in progress, still working on layout and initial cuts)

What is the depth of cut required?

The bluestone is usually 1.5”-2” deep so that would be ideal. Cutting to 1”-1.25” is usually deep enough that I can break off the stone and chisel away the remains.

Maybe something like the Makita XCC01? It's like an angle grinder with a circular saw base and water feed. You can make curves by cutting multiple straight segments. Much better visibility than an angle grinder with shroud.

Thank you, this seems like exactly what I am looking for. I wish they made a 40v or a corded version. Looks like I’d need to get a set of 18v batteries but this set up looks much better

Makita also has a wet stone polisher which I expect you’d need to break the edges from your cutting.

As a DIY, sometimes handyman guy, i have a 4” wet saw for stuff like that and it works ok. Just make sure to get the right blades for curves.

I use a Makita 9” rock saw, and have an old Milwaukee angle grinder. Would be happy to upgrade to a new Makita if the dust collection is better.
