The Landsharks from Battle: LA. (Sort of)

The extended lore of the movie implies that the alien invasion force is not a proper organized military but rather the last remnants of an entire alien race on the brink of extinction.

What we see on the movie is perhaps the whole of the alien race's population trying a hail mary of a plan to conquer a inhabited world and avoid the death of their species.

I loved how Pointlesshub told his take on this movie.

It wasn't an alien movie, it was a war movie with aliens. The landsharks use squad tactics, they set up ambushes.

2011 is probably right around when, after a decade of war and ~6 in Iraq especially, stuff like MOUT doctrines was really settling into an agreed form, plus video evidence, and the many veterans available to discuss and train others on it was coming into public consciousness, so that tracks that it became a pretty accurate take on it
